Figured it had to be something for Simms. No way Stanford wins if she's playing, at least I don't think so. Still great win for Stanford.

You're probably right. Hard to disagree. Simms is a very very good player. Can never replace a 1st team AA. However, if Simms plays then does Madden still score 16pts 6asts 0TO? Just food for thought.

Stanford would not only have to leapfrog UCONN, but Duke also. The chances are somewhere between slim and none that it happens that way. Honestly, a 2 point win when the starting PG for Baylor goes down with an injury after 4 minutes - I'd say Baylor slides to #2. UCONN, Baylor, Duke, Stanford. Just like before the win. We will see but hard to make a real argument to move the rankings any other way...

Would dropping Baylor more than 1 be fair, with Sims out? But if yes, after that showing I wouldn't quibble with Stanford at 1.

Interesting point, so one possibility is Stanford, Baylor, UConn, but it might be hard to argue how UConn started out 2 and ended 3 without screwing up, assuming they don't.

By the way, aren't we on borrowed time? I didn't think we were allowed to talk this much about a non-UConn team that doesn't wear orange. Maybe Orrange gives us dispensation?

Baylor was essentially playing without two players that are expected to be major contributors this year in Sims and Prince, which were to be their best 3 point threats. Prince simply isn't ready to play high level ball. I have said that before Sims makes a 30 point difference in a game. She will give you 20 points and takes away at least 10 points away from opponents with her defense. With her in Baylor wins by 20+, IMO.

However, having said that, Baylor does not look like the best team in the nation. There were 5 seniors available and the team just doesn't look nearly as good as last year. I think dropping to 4 would be great motivation.

Let the new UCONN streak begin.

That seems hard to believe. If they had lost, you could argue they were expected to lose and shouldn't move down, but they would.

However, if you are #4, beat the number #1 team in the country and don't move a spot....??? Hard to imagine.

OK, Say a beer at the Civic, ooops XL center at the half of the Baylor game!

My guess (assuming Duke and UConn win this weekend) is UConn, Baylor, Stanford, Duke. Impressive enough win to leapfrog Duke, but not impressive enough to leapfrog Baylor, especially considering the absence of Simms. Stanford gets rewarded for the win, but Baylor isn't penalized much for the loss.

Now, if UConn loses to aTm, THAT might shake things up a little bit more. Duke is playing some cupcakes so even impressive wins may not be enough to stay #3.

Beat me to it, Phil!

I think it would be different if Simms were not injured 4 minutes into the game. From a logic perspective, it would seem you'd need to take that into account. But hey, what do I know. I'd rank them UCONN, Stanford, Duke, Baylor but I think it would be UCONN, Baylor, Duke, Stanford. Or maybe UCONN, Stanford, Baylor, Duke? No idea, really...

My Guess,

#1 UConn
#2 Baylor
#3 Stanford
#4 Duke

If you are #1 and you lose, you have to drop, maybe only one spot though because of the missing AA. If you knock off #1, you're bound to move up. I know it doesn't seem fair to push Duke back, but it's hard to imagine Stanford jumping to #1 and Baylor falling all the way to #4 after this game. Just my two cents.

I rank based on who I think is the best team. Without their AA guard, Bay lost to #4 by two. I'd be tempted to keep them #1.

But I imagine many voters will go UConn, Stan, Bay.

Sheeeeet, people. Isn't this a UCONN board? What is with all the Baylor threads? I looked down the page and saw at least 4 of them on the first page alone relating to Baylor.

I mean seriously, over 5,500 views on the Stanford-Baylor game thread? And over 200 posts? ;)

I think much will depend on if UConn beats aTm, and if so by how much.

ST goes to #2 We are #1 Baylor 3 Duke to 4 Though I am not going to worry about it cuz we play ST next month
No way I dont think we drop unless we were to lose to Texas A&M on National TV I expect us to blow them out
w/o Bria Baylor lost so as stated 90 70 game is ours to break IMHO I really thought if healthy Baylor comes into Feb 18th with 65 game winning streak Woulda thought even with Simms going out that it was Baylor win! But oops
Great game to watch and again props to W for the link
Wow

I figured the question was how they would be ranked, not how posters would rank them.

Baylor men lost in an upset today - can't be all that often that both men and women are both ranked, and lose to lower ranked teams on the same day.

No. 1 votes will go to Stanford, Baylor & UConn. Baylor will still get 1 votes due to Sims. UConn will get some for being 2. Stanford will get some for beating 1. It'll be UConn, Stanford, Baylor, Duke, and the votes for 1-3 will be close.

I agree, but I would flipflop Baylor and Stanford.
