Dawn Staley apologized for a perfectly understandable mistake on her part; something I doubt many coaches would do. I like her very much....a good replacement for Geno down the road in USA basketball. Link to apology

Yea, I didn't think she realized what he was doing. (heck I didn't at first either)

I think the apology was appropriate. Good for Dawn! But she should have known what was going in at the time.

Her profanity was classless. She took her seniors out on their senior night with 2 minutes to go. Did Vic Schaefer go ballistic?

Nice to see an apology but would she have done it had this not been brought out in the media? I doubt it.

Agreed. I get that she's passionate, but being caught on national TV yelling "that's bull " is not appropriate. She's a head coach, not in her first year, with international experience and Olympic gold medals. This is not her first gig at the rodeo, as they say.

Totally appropriate to apologize. But also appropriate to point out she was out of line in the first place. I agree with those who said her behavior at the time was "inappropriate, and classless". Hopefully she learns her lesson and thinks before she goes bananas in the future...

If I remember two years ago, in the Final four game against Notre Dame, it was Geno who called time out in the last minute, to some crowd boos, when Muffet had no timeouts left, to allow Muffet at that time to take Skylar Diggins out to a well-deserved ovation. That combination of total game awareness and real class is what exemplifies Geno and his program.

I say cut some slack. Granted they have chosen this career path voluntarily, but these big time coaches operate 24/7 under a gigantic microscope. The pressure, first to have one's team perform athletically and in some cases academically to high standards, second to be responsible for any poor behavior on the part of their staff as well as their players, and third to keep one's cool in the heat of highly charged games, is intense, and I doubt that many of us posting on this forum could do this day in and day out with losing our temper periodically.

In the world of swearing, BS is pretty tame. Do I wish she hadn't? Of course, but I also wish Geno didn't swear at his practices. The fact that she took time to apologize squares things up for me.

As I was watching, reading her lips, I was appalled. It was Senior Night! Her team was pummelled. Kudos for the mea culpa.

I have no issues with the profanity since I've seen/ heard worse from players and coaches. The apology was appropirate for the use of profanity and mis-reading the intentions of the UK coach. What I have a big issue with is the lack of awareness of both Dawn and Nikki McCray. Nikki can clearly be seen in the video not mouthing profanity but clearly egging on Dawn and expressing her own displeasure with the time out. It's senior night, parents are in the house, probably the last time a kid might ever see the floor, double digit lead ......

Are all three of those job requirements included in her $900,000 a year-plus salary? What exploitation!

I tend to agree with this response from the article:

Who apologizes on Twitter? She did a post game interview should have been done there .Apology on twitter is a cowards way out

Must be a new age thingy.

Actually Aluminny, per my daughters-barely out of thier teens-Twitter is now old age. They have move on to something called Pheed- I not even sure I'm spelling that right.

The digital age is killing our ability to communicate with one another. I certainly hope she picked up her mobile device and called (gasp!) Matthew Mitchell and apologized for her behavior. I fear for our future with the lack of voice to voice, let alone face to face, communication going on these days.

DS has a sense of entitlement and a prickliness that is, as the proper would say, off putting. Her deer in the headlights interview at the half of the UConn beat down - how do you get back in? Score the ball to slow them down. I guess that is what comes out of having played ball "at the highest level."

Rocky but give her credit for at least taking the game against UCONN. Also down the streatch against Duke and Vols she made enough right calls to come out on top. I don't know maybe it is the Philly in me that allows me to see her positives.

I think maybe it is the contrast with Coach P's recent antics that makes Dawn's apology seem so classy. As to who apologizes on Twitter, damn near everyone does. If they apologize at all. The world is full of twits.

And if Geno didn't offer and take that time out- Skyler would never have gotten that moment. I don't think Muppet was thrilled with Skylar and/or vice versa that game. I watched that game a million times- and she intentionally was not going to give Skylar that exit. It was obvious and their body language was not good together from around the 10 minute mark in the first half or a bit later when we started our run.

WTHI I lines? I wrote it and haven't a clue...key board crazy? sulkiness?? Beats me. But one thing I know to be true: I do not want her as the successor to Geno coaching the International US Women's Team, period. There are at least a few who deserve that job more and demonstrably would be better coaches and better USA Basketball reps.

Yes, it was pretty obvious. No need for her reaction - but I'm glad she has apologized for it. But she could have handled it a lot better, both at the time and afterwards.

She is doing a great job at So Carolina- but she wouldn't be on my short list for UCinn in the future for me. Jen Rizotti, Jeff Walz, Shea, Sue Bird, or maybe D! :)

Geno did that for Jeff Walz last year too when he was out of time outs, for Shoni, et al, to get their last senior ovations. Jeff thanked him publicly.
