If there is a rift, I don’t get it. He’s gotten 15 minutes a game. Hurley could not possibly have led him to believe he’d be getting appreciably more than that this season with Reed here when they were recruiting him.

I don’t disagree. But I like to look at why we’ve been losing and if the teams we’ll play the first 3 rds can actually replicate that. I also think when the losses have come are tinting reality a little bit. This team hasn’t lost much this year. And hasn’t looked overmatched except against one team. Hurley teams always look worse in conference. So I don’t think they’re as bad as they have looked at times.

I agree that the floor is definitely there with this team. I’m just not necessarily worried before the sweet 16/elite 8. I think they’ll play looser OOC. I could be wrong.
 
It is all about matchups. A few years ago and I am too lazy to research it, Louisville was a terrible in season matchup. Fortunately , we did not see them in the postseason and won the Natty. With the right matchups, we could get to the Elite 8. That year might have been 2014 where we beat all top notch teams starting as a 7.

We will soon find out what our bracket holds in store.

I agree with you. I said much of it when we got smacked by Creighton.

I tend to also agree with AG that this failure to hang with St John’s isn’t an obvious indication that we’ll get run this week.

My main concern going into next year is making sure Reibe stays. I heard some later year scuttlebutt his camp wasn't happy about his minutes. That problem gets solved when Reed graduates, but if Reibe were to ever transfer, we'd have a serious hole to fill.

I think that's the larger point. He's a prospect. It's nice to have UConn represented in the NBA, but I'd much prefer a player who's ready for the Big East in my starting 5 while he's here than someone with NBA potential 5 years from now.

This year, we committed a starting position and lots of NIL $ to a player who's very obviously not physically ready for conference play. The same thing happened last year. I think it's fair to review those decisions so that going forward, the same mistakes are not made again.

I sure hope we look different in the NCAA tournament because there was a lot of hype and serious expectations this season. Hurley openly talked about the three obtainable goals being Big East regular season champs, Big East tournament champs, and winning the national championship. We're 0-2 so far in what was a historically weak Big East this season and a national championship now looks like a pipe dream.

I'm bummed how things have played out after we did all that heavy lifting in the out of conference slate. A run to the final 4 or even the elite 8 would salvage things but a sweet 16 without any conference hardware would be a letdown considering what we thought we had early in the season and a first wknd exit would be disastrous.

The result was disappointing. But we were a game off of each goal. It isn’t like we failed miserably. It’s why I think the timing of the losses are what’s driving the tone. Tournament will determine everything imo. We almost made it to the sweet 16 last season. So Id want at least an elite 8. And at that point anything is possible .

As to my own evening & night...

After learning a new word yesterday when my granddaughter partially tore her frenulum in a fall that landed against a toy box, the afternoon turned toward slowing things down in the aftermath of a blood-centric crisis.

I was gifted with a most relaxed and spontaneous nap from the late middle of the first half through halftime, and learned the score as play resumed. The attempted comeback was exciting while it lasted, but stalled as noted elsewhere.

From the opening tip, I saw UConn mostly dominated by a bigger, stronger, tougher, deeper opponent, and hampered by its inability to protect the ball and convert rushed long-distance shots into 3-point scores. Not a shock.

The post game thread confirmed my overall impression that, for the most part, the fans here ended the Big East season with no more skill & maturity than the players & coaches. I'd like to see better, but I can only do my part in my designated role. I slept well.

One of my top reasons for hating this tournament is it’s one more chance for a top guy to get hurt. Especially because you have to play multiple games in a row which teams don’t do all season.
 
It will be interesting to see if the Boneyard theory on the BE refs is accurate. I believe it to be true especially after what we accomplished in 2023. The amount of holding and grabbing by St Johns was the most I’ve witnessed this year. Darling holding on Silas was ridiculous.

Pitino’s own son said in the pregame that St Johns holds on every possession. I agree. On the Silas drive at the end of the first half 4 different players got a hand on him. Thats not basketball, but it worked for them.

I predict better offensive motion for us in the tourney and let’s see how the fould are called for St Johns. I watched Wisconsin and Michigan yesterday and while the game was physical, it did not feature the extensive grabbing and holding that we experience in the BE.

Let’s see what happens.

That wouldn't bother me nor would I be afraid of a rematch with them. I stated it after UConn blew out St. John's by 32-UConn is not 32 pts better than St. John's. Just like St. John's is not 20 points better than UConn. UConn doesn't match up great against St. John's, but they can beat them on neutral floor with better officiating. I don't blame the officials for yesterday's loss, but the way they officiated the game favored St. John's style-St. John's earned the victory yesterday.

Later edit: For further context there are some teams I am concerned with being bad match ups this year and I am talking about possible 7 or 10 seeds in the 2nd round or the 3 seed in the Sweet 16. In 2023 and 2024 I was not worried about any bad match ups and that includes any possible match up with a Big East opponent. In 2014 I wanted no part of Louisville, who triple crowned UConn and beat them easily in all 3 games that year.

Welp, we will be 1 of 68 teams so we have a chance. Most of us are so frustrated because the season started so gloriously, and seems to have gone sideways, if not somewhat south
  1. Big East Regular Season Title - the easiest goal at our fingertips and the team choked against the lowly marquette
  2. Big East Tourney Championship - more difficult goal given the matchup but it was there and we were late to the grand party
  3. National Championship - reality is setting in. It all depends on health, matchups and upsets but a Sweet 16 should be in the cards
The 4 losses to Big East teams were all so ugly it's hard to imagine avoiding all of those bad stretches
I just checked bracketology which I haven't don't yet. If this is the case, we could be in Barney

7 UCLA
10 NC State
2 UConn
15 Queens
 
Would we feel better if we lost in OT to Gtown on Friday? Possibly.... in 2023 we lost to Marquette on Fri and went in to win the NC.

The 2023 team had probably 3x the talent (and considerably more depth) than this team.

That’s as crazy as the 2006 comparisons.

2023 Marquette vs 2026 Georgetown is not comparable, that was a 29-7 Marquette team with 3 NBA players, we would all feel like complete crap with negative zero optimism if we lost to Georgetown, as much as last night sucked.
 
Still think UConn is a two seed with others losing this weekend as well.

I can see them putting us in thee toughest bracket with Duke or Arizona as the one seed.

I truly believe the officials in the Big East hurt teams when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. The hand checking and reaching in would be called in the tournament, unlike this past season.
No excuses though, as UConn was outplayed throughout by St. John's

Saturday night, after a very bad loss, we'll have to chalk this one up to excessive drinking, drug use or other impairment. There is no other excuse that makes any sense. I guess the poster could always use the excuse that someone hacked into their Boneyard account. That's certainly a valid excuse also.

I’m hoping it was some next level Andy Kaufmann level humor or something. If not. It’s literally the worst post ever here and there’s been some unreal
