St. John's Post Game Thread

.-.
During the Villanova game i thought that it was a little odd that Kemba, Shabazz, Lamb and Rudy were sitting together in a "foreign" venue to watch the team. Then Katz interviewed them (specifically Kemba) and asked him to compare JC and Dan Hurley in terms of toughness being dished out on a daily basis to players. Kemba didn't compare per se because he never played for Hurley but he took the time to say they were probably quite similar and that it is necessary and very good for players to have very tough demanding coaches because it brings the best out in you. Wonder if those legends had a few words with this team or perhaps a player or two at some point about not taking things personally and trust them and the coach. I was hoping this would be the case because they have the potential as we saw tonight to really be an elite team on defense as well as offense. It's always great to see the former champions come back to campus or the games. Loved the way Tarris dominated this game and the SJ front line. Great way to head into the end of the regular season and tournaments.

So weird how St Johns went away from their winning game plan from last game. They didnt press, post up Mitchell on ball and Mullins, didn’t crash the glass hard.

More even reffing obviously helped us here, it was obvious how bad the reffing was at MSG. But the defense was suffocating, and Tarris especially deserves the game ball for dominating the paint.

I still love what Ross brings, doesn’t over dribble, takes good looks, defends better than anyone not named Demary, and hustles more than anyone on the team. I’m buying stock on him starting as a senior, but that’s probably hyperbole.

I couldn't agree with you more on Ross. He just plays hard - and is consistent. He missed a three today that was almost in. Always plays in the flow of the O, can finish on a break.

Something really off with the Johnnies tonight 15 minutes without a field goal? Ejiofor pulled early after 1 foul (yeah we didnt have an answer for Prey) he Mitchell and Hopkins with 14 points? Something fishy. Pitino had no control over the team tonight. Danny on the other hand turned on the lights for us
Say what?

From what I got out of the game, that was:

  • Pitino's worst loss as at StJ coach - previous was only 16 to Michigan
  • Tied a record for fewest points in a game by StJ (40)
I'd be curious on the last time Pitino lost by 32.
It’s gonna be a long bus ride back to Queens. Haahhaha
