St. John's Post Game Thread

DC against Northwestern in the second round, 2024: 14 points, 14 rebounds, 8 blocks (this was a severe undercount, should have been at least 10), 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 pf. 5/7 shooting, 4/4 from the line. And then his game against Illinois was arguably even better. 22/10/3stl/5blk
Best game of Cling Kong's career, with context, is against Illinois in the elite 8 - 22 pts, 10 reb, 5 blk, 3 stl and they probably undercounted blocks in that game too

LOL!!! Jim Calhoun's UConn team did the exact same thing to a Rick Pitino Louisville team in 2009. Didn't beat them by 30, it was only 17. But that was on Louisville's home floor when they were ranked #5 at the time. And UConn shot 0-8 from three.

FTR, the Creighton loss was on a day when both teams played the exact same time, without one of the games on an over the airwaves broadcasting feed. Bad mojo.
There was something in the water that night, too. When I got around to watching the women's game from that night a couple days later it had to be one of their weakest games of the year. They can have a bit of WTF moments to start some games, but in this one, they were only up 6 with a minute to go in the third and I was still WTF-ing before they started to pull away. Granted, Nova is the second best team in the conference, but in women's basketball, that's not saying a lot. But this is a team on an undefeated championship trajectory, so it was still kinda shocking to watch. I guess it's always Friday the 13th somewhere

.-.
What about UConn?
Don't you get the feeling that if it was any other team who waxed a Top 20 opponent like that it would be love all over again? I mean, wasn't it when Michigan trucked Gonzaga when his heart first started to flutter?

He's a fickle flower who serves a purpose. He just doesn't know what it is.

Your purpose speaking jibberish and drooling on a keyboard?
Spurring you on toward your furthest star, though, to be honest I wear a bib and tap on a telephone. That you don't understand me should serve as a clue. Your excesses are no less insufferable, but others do more than enough to keep you perpetually engaged while I attend to other things.

Btw, LOVED the out-in-the-open back-and-forth between you and @Inyatkin. I did not know something like that was possible between two posters who have each other on Ignore.

"Ignore me.
"I ignore you."
"I ignored you first."
"I ignore you more."
"Well then ignore me."
"Make me."
"Just make believe I don't exist."
"Just stop posting."
"If you did it my way, then all would be well."
"Don't you wish."
"Stop it."
"Stop what?"

It's a "Dancing With the Stars" cage match.

And you call it "jibberish?" You can't even spell it correctly.

PS - Don't ever change.
Start tomorrow.

It wouldn't be a bad thing for you to put me on ignore either yeah know. I could imagine what the "ignore" crew looks like in person.

Yes but his posts are so strange I don't even know where he's coming from half the time. Now he thinks Hurley was slow playing the season until the St. John's game at home the other night.

He has crushed hard on Purdue, Michigan, Arizona, and Duke this season but no UConn.

He's also crushed hard on a lot of individual players but no UConn players.

No chance. I already said you serve a valuable purpose, and complimented with specificity as recently as this afternoon.

Who's going to tell you that the super casual form or "you know" is "ya know," and not "yeah know"?

As a matter of fact, "yeah" is the super casual form of "yes," but I digress.

Given how wildly wrong your imaginings of me have been in the past, I'll just laugh and suggest you have at it.

WoofWoof...

Hey thanks for tagging me and proving my point that even the ignore feature makes these posts inescapable

Pitino sets an interesting tempo. How many of these kids are just like, got my money I don't feel like dealing with this "sh#t". This is the danger of deep pocket strategy. Kentucky is seeing it.

Let's how May's team does in the Dance. They have an interesting quality to them as well as basically an all portal team. They turn it on when they need to (Vegas), but then wind down at times. They're lead by a goofey bird in Yaxel. Kinda why I like AZ/Duke a bit more in the tourney.

And I'm with you - having your best player & BPOY check out of a tournament game is odd vibes.

It's why MLB players always have more pride for the team that drafted them.

UConn/portal kids get to rally around a kid like AK, who is a foundational product of the program.
Zuby is all they got draft wise - somewhere in the second round. He knows he's making his best money this year

Imagine believing Rick.

That suit is coming out tomorrow.

Didn’t get to read all this thread but will later. I was at the game, will say for those who asked about the crowd, easily best one of year and to compare? I’d throw it close to the Dream Season when the HCC was at its loudest, very close impressive. The thing is the crowd feeds off the passion and hard defense, it works. Fast starts help too. Well done fans, well done.

Let’s be honest, this team needs an A game from Tarris as we saw. The team plays off it, the defense plays off him it was a great effort. And think of it this way, you didn’t get another A game from anyone else, maybe a couple Bs, maybe a B+ from Alex, but we saw how good we can be with Reed playing like that.

Danny severely out coached Rick and he had no answers, especially with the mason effort by his players. They pretty much gave up with 8-9 minutes left, the air was outta their sails it was fun to see. Loved to see people going under screens rather than fighting through and people hard hedging. The Johnnies plan was to come off screens with a full head of steam to get to the rim. Instead we left them room to shoot from deep but not turn the corner it was brilliant. It also kept Reed out of trouble which is huge.

Hope to see that same defensive plan tomorrow, really liked the way the team switched and made them take shots they weren’t confident taking.

Let’s see the next reaction, can’t wait!

During the period that led to the hiring of Dan Hurley, my list of people on Ignore ballooned to record numbers. It was the only way to deal with the polarized community.

After things reset, I went through my Ignores and kept only 1 or 2. Over time, I would recognize when something was missing, and I started to discover who Ignored me. At first, I thought, "Who'd want to ignore me?" Then I got pretty good at guessing who had posted what I wasn't seeing. Most times I was not surprised that when I'd discover another ignorer, and I could see how I could have been bothersome in response to posts that led me to be critical. I didn't really miss anybody, and with only one exception, I could always see somebody's initial post when they opened up a new thread, but not any follow up comments. I have no idea why that one poster was 100% invisible to me. Jecs not anymore, and I appreciate his posts for the most part.

Anyway, after the site update, all posters returned to my view. The people who had previously ignored me still write things that can annoy me, but it's not enough for me to speak up. They even sometimes contribute things that I can give a Like to. I have no idea if perhaps they still don't see my posts, but now I do see theirs. I don't care to get to the bottom of this.

Ast the end of February, I've firmly shifted to the part of the season where things have to come together, including the fans. I'm not in favor of people putting their energy into rosters for a year or two into the future, but I did like the snowstorm thread

I loved Wednesday's game, and I wish for focus and good performance to earn a sweep against Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Go Huskies.

Not sure if mentioned but if we dont score a single point in the second half we still win the game. 🤣

Yeah, I do think posting this at any opportunity is mojo GOLD...

This never gets old. Love Hass with the bookend buckets! And Spencer with a classic air punch only about halfway through what was already an insane run.

I know I’m late but does anyone have video or a name of who sung the national anthem on Wednesday? She was amazing.

I honestly felt right after that and the crowd’s reaction, we were in for a good one. Whoever she is, bring her in more often.

Is it reasonable to think Hurley will use the same blueprint if the Huskies meet St. John's again in the conference tournament? Assuming St. John's shoots better, other than that, what adjustments could they make to counter Hurley's gameplan that was so effective on Wednesday night? According to Rick Pitino, not much, though you never know what he might have up his sleeve.

We all know our success against them was largely due to the play of Tarris. In fact, Pitino was quoted as saying, "We beat Connecticut last time because we got Reed in foul trouble. He dominated us in that game, and so did Karaban going to the basket. When Reed's on the court they're a great team. When Reed's off the court they're beatable, but if Reed stays in the game and they just substitute for fatigue, they can beat anybody in the country."

Overall, the biggest thing I saw was the energy we played with across the board, along with a tough but disciplined defense that didn't go for Pitino's bait of committing a ton of fouls. That alone resulted in Tarris staying on the floor and much less points for them at the charity stripe. And obviously, getting the ball to Tarris in the post was tremendously effective. I'm thinking next time around, they will try to double him meaning we will need better shooting from the perimeter. Though the crowd was a big factor in this game, the next time we meet them will be on more of a neutral court as MSG will presumably not have anywhere near the 80%-90% they had for the game on 2/6/26.
