St. John's Post Game Thread

The fact that we don't have a reliable 6th man is also a problem. 6 points from the bench is atrocious. Need Stew and/or Ross to stop being passengers.
Ross has looked good the past few games and I would argue he looked good tonight. He wasn't so crazy and speedy when he had the ball in his hands. Hurley also didn't put him on the court that much as his main 6 guys.

Let’s just be honest- this game had a lot to do with how the refs called the game- pretty obvious- people talking about we don’t know how break the press- that’s silly- only turnover we had the entire game in the backcourt was the first & only time that Silas inbounded the ball- Karaban inbounded most of the game & it was easy for Silas to get open.

Would say the refs & missing foul shots were the main reason for the loss- obviously Malachi didn’t play well either.

Not sure how they called that foul on the defensive player of the year in the conference verse a backup point guard on St. John’s- pretty bizarre.

All of the nonsense that they can get away with against the rest of the conference came back to bite them.

That's a preview of how our season ends if they don't off the nonsense. And maybe get a lil tougher.
Yup. We are everyone’s Super Bowl. At John’s is just the only team good enough in conference to pull it off. Can’t piss down our legs for 1/4 of the game and beat teams with heartbeats.

Awful is a stretch. 12 points and 6 boards is his norm and he added 3 blocks. He wasn't awful.
The 12 pts are offset by how many pts he costs us either at the line, TOs or losing his man time and time again. He was bad tonight

Disagree. The dunk on Zuby and the talking after sealed it for me. What did AK do besides let Hopkins get in his head?
17 points on 7-10 shooting and 3-4 behind the arc. AK was great. Not perfect. His frustration foul that sent SJU to the line late was dumb. But overall typical solid and reliable effort. No complaints from me.

Demary was both great and frustrating. He played with a lot of heart but 9 turnovers? And two of them resulted in fast break buckets. And his missed FT's late, including the front end of a 1-1 that cost us a chance for 2 pts? Ugh!

One of my main concerns is I’m not sure how we can realistically make a tournament run with a single point guard…

Figuring out this Smith situation is one of the top priorities.

Zuby doobie doo was protected by the refs 100%. Which I guess the top dawg usually gets but some of the calls they didn't call my daughter (who knows NOTHING about basketball) called the refs out on.
It was actually the under the rim stuff on rebounds that was absurd. They got every call, at least three posessions worth out of those situations.

It just felt like the BE wanted SJ to get their signature win. I just wish we spoiled that nonsense, but instead we screwed around too much and dug a deep hole. So many of our TOs were caused by nothing that SJ did.

We know he is a dud at the line so I expect nothing less. Everyone was missing their guy on defense. Zuby was the best player TR has played against all year. He was off tonight because the team was off as a whole in that second half but TR wasn't awful.

SJU outscored UConn 13-1 during the 4 minutes that Malachi Smith played. Demary can't play 40 minutes and be effective late. We need someone to give him a rest.

Wondering why we don’t see Mullins run the point in spurts. Yes he plays the 3, but he has a good handle and should be able to give us 5-7 min a game when Silas needs a rest.

.-.
My problem with the officiating was Alex getting hit on 3 different possessions late against Zuby/Hopkins with NO calls. Don't call it tight on one end, and nothing on the other.
Was all game- especially in the last 10 minutes- was bizarre how the refs were calling the game- I give Hurley a lot of credit for keeping his cool- at one point I turned to my young son & said I would get a T right now if I was Hurley.

that was a wild environment, Johnnie’s completely outnumbered us. Their fans were rabid, you couldn’t even stand and cheer without getting absolutely berated 😂. Lot of scumbags but oh well, we’re not exactly the epitome of class either.

Smith has had moments this year. I agree with you, we were getting killed with him on the court

He has to be better

Or we have to let other guys run the offense while Silas rests. Maybe point play by committee

Agreed. Waaaaaayyyy too many unforced ball handling turnovers that shut us down.

Please. We're three years into this. It's not the refs.

They defend with their hands.
Do you not look at box scores of BE games vs tournament games?

It’s absolutely a thing with the refs in this conference. St John’s doesn’t defend with their hands?????

Idk if it’s just a boomer thing to never blame the refs or what but 31-12 FTs is a problem with the refs. It’s also consistent in this league vs when we play non league games in the last 3-4 years.
