Sport gambling, where do you stand?

The only bets I place on UConn games are emotional hedge bets against UConn lol. That way if we lose I at least make a little money… I lost a lot of money last March (although it was mostly offset by some future bets I placed on UConn to win it all)

I used to bet on sports years ago in my teens and early 20's. I always found betting baseball to be the most profitable. In the end I was still a net loser. In my early 30's I became a commodity trader in Chicago. In the pit I always felt as if I had the edge, I was the house so to speak. After I became a trader it killed me not to have the edge so I stopped gambling. My only gambling suggestion is to try and get every wager odds as close to 50/50 as possible.

Nah, you shoulda seen this bad beat I had…so it’s a 7 game parlay, first 5 hit…
Check out these two beauties! Deebo was hurt, and want to guess how much Brandon Ingram scored?

I stand almost entirely on the sidelines, based on 'loss aversion' principles as much as anything else.

Nonetheless, I'm well-acquainted with the low-point stories of 3 addicted gamblers:

The second-in-his-class-at-Harvard-Law guy whose downfall began when he bet wrong on silver along with the Hunt Brothers (yes, not sports there, but both before & after, along with cards & casinos), and ended with Federal incarceration, after quite a few interesting stops along the way;

the massively large & unlikely dear friend who was banned from having certain banking accounts for a while and was fortunate to get some leeway from people who (really) wanted him to pay up by dangling smaller guys with bigger debts from AC hotel windows;

and the completely unexpected late mid-life tale of financial wreckage, and a 30+ year marriage nearly shattered by his repeated dishonesty, which he now shares & supports others within a state counseling program devised to aid similar folks whose adult behaviors went beyond the usual norms and boundaries regularly mentioned in casual acceptance of what isn't so easy for some as many might claim.

I used to bet sports through a bookie when sports betting was illegal. Then the state decided that betting was legal as long as you fork over the vig to the state. I still place bets through that same bookie.

betting is too corporate now. i liken it to marijuana- thinks that should be legal but in my own personal opinion shouldn't be as.....accessible? advertised?

kiosk touchscreen technology is best suited for building sandwiches, not parlays

that being said, my uconn future(s) bet funded my final four trip last year sooooooo (with some help from uconn football!)

What's the best place to play Texas Hold 'Em online? Small stakes.

I do like 2 and 3 dollars to win 25-60 depending on size of my parlay so mine aren’t crazy but so frustrating, probably “lost” 200 bucks the last 2 weeks on 1 point, 1 ML 1 catch … it’s the thrill baby!

You're missing out. With the apps, you can bet in-game.

2 years ago, Edwin Diaz appeared in 61 games. 118 Ks in 62 innings. 9 ER allowed all season. 32 saves, blown saves. I made a MINT betting on 0 runs for the opposing team that inning, plus I bet a K on most hitters middle or down in the lineup. He struck out basically 2 of every 3 outs. It was fish in a barrel.

Online gambling allows you to peel the layers back more and find spots. If you're happy with a 2 team teaser, have at it though. Good luck.

If you're in CT: Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods, and MGM Springfield all have $1/$2 No Limit Texas Hold 'Em games running at all times basically. Mohegan Sun gets my vote as the best option of the 3. In CT, it is not possible to play online poker for real money legally, but it could conceivably happen in the future (NJ and PA both have legal online poker).

I meant online. Sorry.

I feel exactly the same. All of the sudden gambling is ok because the sate can make some money. The hypocrisy is ridiculous. In Florida you can only bet online through an app that is controlled by the Hard Rock Seminole Indian owned casino. It seems to me that a lot of people were labeled criminals for providing a service to consulting adults. Unfortunately some people I know paid that price.

I’m in the St Louis area. I’m on FanDuel for fantasy. It’s fun betting nickels in large tournaments. I also do 2 NBA games a night. Fantasy only. $1 versus 2 others. I don’t drink I don’t smoke. Been doing this for a year now I am probably down $30. One day I’ll win that elusive $200. In Missouri the STL and KC population crosses the state lines into Illinois and Kansas to place bets. State of Missouri missing out on all that tax money. If I want to place a bet I drive to Illinois, get off first exit and go to gas station. On weekends this gas station is surrounded by dudes in cars, phones in hand placing bets. High comedy! Never bet college sports though. I don’t know enough about the teams. My bets are 90% fantasy and a dollar or less. For me it’s more about fun than believing I can win big money.

1. Never bet your team as a favorite
2. Never bet what you can't recover in total losses through comp'd drinks, meals or tix.
3. Game spread is for simps. You want to make money look for the props. There's always money to be had in there.
4. Go Ravens. Two weeks ago I decided I needed a rooting interest for the NFL so I have Ravens at +350 to win the SB.
I bet KC at beginning of season. I root against them mostly; AFC east guy here. Don’t bet w your heart.

I’m somewhat convinced we’re seeing that quite a bit. Mac Jones short armed a wide open last second 10 yard TD pass by about 6 yards once this season and killed my parlay.
And those long touchdown passes with no defender in sight.

What's not to like? Constant bombardment of advertising or hearing about your friend just missed out on leg 6 of a parlay because Mike Evans only caught 4 passes one Sunday!
My six leg parlay died with St Brown last Sunday night. How on earth does he not catch more passes against Tampa Bay?

And when you see the people who look the poorest in the gas station/convenience store buying a lot of scratch tickets at ridiculous odds you realize that tax and spend governments will prey on peoples weaknesses like addiction (cigarettes, alcohol, gambling etc.) you realize how far we have come. Very sad.
And what should those folks “who look the poorest” do with the money that they purchase lottery tickets with instead of using it to buy lottery tickets? Sincerely curious.

Totally fine with sports gambling and have made plenty of bets in my lifetime. I never bet for or against my teams because I don't like getting pissed that they didn't cover when I should be celebrating a victory.

Personally, I have never placed a bet on a UConn game. I occasionally visit a casino, not often, to play blackjack or roulette. When I was kid we used to get NFL betting cards from the local mafia guys. For one dollar you got a card that had every NFL game and the spread. If you picked four winners you got $10 dollars. I did this many times and neither I or anyone I knew ever won.

Now, it seems like you cannot go on the web or tune on the tube without hitting a sports gambling show. I understand some folks bet because it gives the game a little extra juice. But I get so involved in the games, I don't need any extra juice. In fact, I can watch a random NFL or NBA game and my rooting interest for one side or the other is very high. I immediate get captured by the competition. Not all sports, not women's sports, sorry, I just don't care. But high level athlete competition is fascinating to me. It's not like watching a UConn or Giants game but I don't need to bet on a game to get involved.

I am especially curious about UConn fans that bet on UConn games. If you didn't bet would it lessen your interest? Do you need to bet to have fun? Are you a UConn bettor or bet on everything? Did you used to watch the Huskies without betting and enjoy them?
I find myself in line with the majority of your posts. Including this one. (But I do like the uconn women).
I don't like gambling personally. I love sports. I don't need it. And I agree 100% with @JMick and @ConnHuskBask That nothing is worse than watching a game with a big gambler. All they talk about is their bets and fantasy players ..."OK. Recover an onside kick, kick a field goal, then get a safety on the next position and hold them the rest of the game and I'm golden!"
who the heck cares. Go look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself a hi-five for me.

When you see people with all of their belongings in the broken down car they drove in with just about anything would be better than lottery tickets imho.

Eh, take a shot w that last fiver!

the true poor are the ones who can least afford the loss, and are most likely to wish that gambling wins will become a regular income stream. It's not a form of entertainment, it's a form of misplaced hope to get out of a desperate situation.

I love sports wagering. Unfortunately, I found out about 30 years ago (well before it became legal most places) that I sucked really bad at it, so I stopped. A while ago I thought about giving it another go...starting with some 'imaginary' bets...and confirmed that I have gotten no better at it, so I'll just take a pass on that.
Maybe try picking games and then betting the opposite! (Kidding)

Confidently betting on UConn to win by 21-25 and 26-30 points in the second weekend of the NCAA tournament (and then hitting back to back games) is a rush I hope to experience again once in my lifetime. We are a lucky bunch.

I've hit BIG on UConn future bets. 75-1...30-1...30-1. Have us at 14-1 this year. Sometimes bet the individual games - sometime spread, sometimes money line. Never bet against them. I have us to win the BE regular season at 2-1...will probably cash that.

I am on the degenerate end of the betting spectrum. I bet pretty much every sport. That includes golf, tennis, horses, etc. I have made bets on politics, the weather, and elevators.

I also play poker (cash and tournament), daily fantasy. NEVER play lotto unless the jackpot is a bill.

I'm up lifetime. Had a year where I made more gambling than I did working. Have countless scores between $1,000 and $5,000. Biggest win ever in one night is $23,000. Biggest loss ever in one night was $600.

I don't care about money and don't value it. You need that mentality to win.
