Consider:
Can any of these teams give us so much as a game?
They're all getting worse, not better.
ND, bleh...SC, I suppose there's still Maryland or whomever
No doubt in my mind that Baylor can go toe to toe with UConn.

I was browsing this board during timeouts at the Duke game.... and I expected Cuevas to have double digits turnovers or some outrageous shooting percentage or something. I just looked at her stats, and they weren't nearly as bad as I thought they would be.

Is it worse than Coach Geno's ???
In the first half she'd run down the court, with her teammates in position, and fire up a three about 5 seconds into the shot clock. She was missing early in the game and she pretty much allowed Georgia, hardly an offensive juggernaut, to stay in the game. And that's why I called Cuevas a train wreck.

Credit to Dawn for whatever she said to Cuevas at half time but the kid is a junior. She's completely unreliable when it comes to knowing what to expect from her. Boneyarders were horrified at Kia Nurse's shooting slump early in the year, to the point that they wanted to pull her from the starting 5 and replace her with a freshman, yet Kia's defense and game control were always excellent. I can't imagine what the Boneyard would do to her if she played like a box of chocolates ("you never know what you're going to get" ~Momma Gump).

The train wreck had the best scoring game of her career tonight.

I thought the game was pretty good. They didn't look nearly good enough to stay in the game with UCONN though.

The game against Miss. State will be must watch TV.

BTW- I like Cuevas...
I like her too. She and Coates may be the best things that ever happened to us.

First thought : When Cuevas is your best player on the floor .

Second Thought: Coates may be as strong as a bull but God is she slow. Thank god they let offensive rebounds be part of the game of basketball.

Final Thought: Hope Aja is back at full strength so we have a challenge before the tournament.

I find Coates to be overrated........she is an excellent rebounder at both ends of the court and her shooting percentage is high but if all you do is shoot layups and you're a strong 6'5" player I don't find that particularly remarkable........I noticed that the few times she was challenged and was forced to adjust her shot she missed badly............not saying she isn't a very good player.........just not a great one.............

South Carolina fans, after a brilliant start Kaela Davis has regressed to her statistical norm shooting 36% on the season, which is identical to what she shot in two years at GT. That was me telling you "I told you so" and this is me telling you that you should be very concerned because she is leading your team in shot attempts.

South Carolina now up 47-38, Georgia with the ball.

Now 47-40. Still a snoozer. I'm flipping back and forth between the game and a fairly mediocre movie - Cliffhanger with Sylvester Stallone. It's 50-50 which is less watchable.
That's some pretty high praise for that movie.

Did anybody catch Dawn's potty mouth?

Yes. What the blank are you doing?

Really? This from fans of Geno?

I'm not sure what you are referring to:D but sometimes Philadelphia's have a way of expressing themselves where some translation might be appropriate. Cliney is from Newark, NJ so perhaps Dawn didn't want to take any chances. I was wondering the same thing, What (fill in the blank) was Cliney doing there!

I hadn't watched a SC game yet this season so I dvr'ed this one. I was getting bored last night so I turned this on to see how they did without Aja. I watch all games after dvr'ing them.

The first thing I noticed was at the start of the game they showed Aja and Cuevas was sitting next to her on the bench. I thought that maybe she was injured or something. They finally put her in- I think after Coates was out of the game. She was playing some nice defense and was disrupting Georgia's offense. Got a couple of steals and they ended the half with a good lead.

Georgia was double-teaming Coates and clogging the middle. Cuevas was driving the middle and taking advantage of the defense's tactics. Cuevas may have made some bad shot decisions but the other players were not taking up the slack from Aja's absence.

She stepped up her game and won the game for SC.

Thanks for actual game analysis. Cuevas had a great night for the team, she did exactly what was needed and what Dawn wanted to do. Her improvement has been nice to see this year and I think she's really embracing her role off the bench. Every team we play is going to play off of her and she needs to continue capitalizing like she's been doing the last few games. Coates had a good game for a player that was being triple-teamed whenever she wasn't being double-teamed. We needed Kaela Davis to step up tonight and she didn't. Davis has to realize that as a volume shooter you're not going to be hot every night, but you have to stay engaged and she wasn't engaged defensively. Hopefully she will step up in Baton Rouge as I'm sure Wilson will not play, which is a good decision. Gray played okay, but I still think Gray is holding back.. she can do much more. Mikiah Herbert Harrigan and Tyasha Harris (true freshmen), started tonight.. just to illustrate how little of a bench SC has (I have no idea where this idea of SC having a "massive bench" comes from, we typically suit up 11 players, tonight it was 10 as the ever-injured Tiffany Davis also couldn't play and 4 of those are freshmen.. so.. ).

Georgia has a good player in Caliya Robinson. I like her ability to stretch the floor and play inside as a post. Normally, we would put Wilson on a player like her but tonight we had absolutely nothing to stop her.. we tried Davis on the perimeter and Gray inside and vice versa.. neither worked. She was a mismatch and it worked. Roberts is also a really good player for the Bulldogs.

Hey guys! Looking at all of your posts on here made me laugh as you guys aren't afraid to let my team have it lol. I highly agree with all you in the fact that this team oozes talent and is underachieving. But one thing for sure they are going through adversity at the right time and are realizing that everyone has to step up! Harris, Herbert Harrigan, and Cliney are going to be better come tournament time because is of this. Davis at times has looked like an All American and then the GT Davis but we need her to be a factor every night. Hopefully we get her full effort every night and she's a factor in the UCONN game and the NCAA tourney. I still believe this team is capable of doing great things this season but if we played like how we played last night then a exit in the sweet 16 is certain. If the South Carolina that wiped the floor with Louisville shows up then I think we have a chance with anybody!

Don't take it personally..........we tend to be a pretty critical lot although we do appreciate good basketball no matter what team is playing it.........USC is clearly one of the top teams in college basketball and Dawn has built a really impressive program.............Boneyard fans are spoiled by a program that is consistent as a fine Swiss watch while most of the other contenders to the throne lose track of time once in a while...............

Yeah your team is underachieving and offensively are one noted (?), but I still love me some DAWN!

USC has a very large fan base and we have highly ranked attendance numbers in many sports. Big school in a decent-sized metro in a state with no pro sports. WBB has been helped by Dawn's accessibility and interaction with fans. She is universally loved in Columbia.

We are still inconsistent; the team has played some very good basketball this season - against Louisville, Minnesota and Alabama, in particular and also some very pedestrian basketball. TBH, though, we've won 25 straight games in conference, so Dawn is doing something right. There are other teams with more highly recruited classes; cough, Tennessee, cough, who haven't done as well. I'll tell you that Vic Schaefer has done a very good job at Mississippi State. I'm glad we're playing them in Columbia, but we will need A'ja to have a chance to beat them. That said, MSU hasn't played any good teams on the road and I think there will be 17-18,000 at that game.

That game needs to be a full house.. it will likely decide the SEC regular season title.

I've watched several MSU games and they are GOOD. SC better not sleepwalk into that one.. I'm hoping MSU is undefeated so they'll come into CLA as the higher ranked team.

I'd like to see that, but with MBB doing well and having high attendance, I think 17,000 will be the most we can muster for that game. Hopefully, I'll be wrong. I think the UT game is more likely to be a sellout.

So that they can show even without A'ja they can crush them. Sounds like a plan. You know how I feel. UConn and SC in Dallas, at the Cotillion, final game. A better plan.

Nothing said here was personal on my part - game threads tend to be a stream of consciousness thing rather than carefully thought out posts. I like and respect Dawn Staley and I like you South Carolina fans, too. I also appreciate the lack of obnoxious responses to this thread.

This is the game.... This is the one I've been wait so long for..... 18,000 screaming cocky gamecock nation fans packed in the CLAW to watch two potential top 5 teams go to toe to toe! That environment will be hostile and the crowd will be rocking while the sandstorm is playing! Looking back on all MSU's road games they have not played well particularly against Arkansas, Southern Cal, Iowa St, and Tenn. It will be a huge task for them to knock off the Gamecocks in Columbia and I'm looking forward to it!
PS: Vivians is their main scorer, limit her touches and shot attempts and force other players to score the basketball.

Morgan William is your prototypical playmaker at point guard, she likes to drive and score or dish it off... gotta limit her ability to drive inside as well. They have nice size down low with McCowan at 6'7" and Okorie at 6'5" which the rotate (hardly ever playing both because neither has the ability to play at the high post)

Blair Schaefer (coach's daughter) is their three point specialist and she's quick off screens and catch and shoot..

I agree, Vivians is the main culprit but this team has a few more weapons this year than last..

What is the word on Wilson's ankle?

She's practicing, but still likely not playing tomorrow. I would be shocked if she plays tomorrow.

I think Dawn sits her until Mississippi State.. a game that'll likely decide the SEC regular seasons title.

I think A'ja will play against LSU only if absolutely necessary. We wouldn't need her at home against Ole Miss.
