A lot of my amigos have concerns of my constant looking into the future...
But I do have concerns
I expect there will ramifications...
-Discipline or being chastised (by the NCAA, UConn prez? some other entity,,,congressman from SC)?

This is not blowing over, I fear.
The matter has overshadowed the game
A great shame
I thought Dawn was quite gracious in her interview
just after, under the circumstances.

.-.
My point is that there is no evidence supporting Geno’s side of things and there is clear video evidence that contradict both Geno’s contention that Dawn didn’t shake his hand before the game and that Sarah had her shirt torn by one of the SC players.

I think the world of Geno. I would love for there to be some evidence to explain his otherwise unexplainable behavior.
When did Geno say Dawn didn’t shake his hand? Never saw it, just Staley speculating.

That’s exactly what he said. Look at his postgame comments, posted earlier on this thread.

Yes this is true at the moment. But what I’m saying is we as fans should not be so quick to say he is losing his mind or he is lying or he is an idiot. Did he behave in the most professional manner, no. But we must ask the question why did a man who has won 12 championships and holds all the records react this way. Your explanations of his behavior assume he made a mountain out of a mole hill. I’m purely saying hold on. This man whom we’ve seen given so much to the wbb world and acted given so much to his peers wouldn’t simply black out and then yell at an opposing coach. Something must’ve have triggered it. And what I’m assuming here because I trust Geno is not fabricating anything is that Dawn purposely disrespected him. When I was doing business in Asia not bowing low enough or pouring drinks to your superiors was considered very disrespectful. Is a rule that I had to do it? No. But these are the unwritten rules and you do things in a professional setting like you would anywhere in the world. To know the rules and purposely break them in front of the other person is disrespectful and in my instance could’ve probably gotten me reprimanded or fired.

The handshake Geno referencing is the handshake after the coaches are introduced after the players are introduced. That was not shown on the broadcast. ESPN did show what Geno was talking about at the beginning of the UCLA vs Texas game.

Well Madison Booker is 3-23 tonight. So I guess by the reasoning on display by many here Vic must have been "Outcoached".
By the way the fouls are nearly even in this game and we have a close game. How about that?
Three of the first team AA played poorly tonight and their teams lost. Azzi was not as bad as Booker was shooting wise.

You’re conflating two gripes. Maybe the refs let the SC players be too agressive, maybe not. Either way, Geom should have congratulated Dawn and shook hands with the opposition.
Why? Because of some kind of insincere faux sense of "sportsmanship"? Why?
Until it is demonstrated that why he did what he did was clearly wrong and baseless, I stand with Geno. Sorry. If he had thrown the team under the bus, sure, but this? Sorry no.

Interesting bit of history:
When South Carolina lost its undefeated season to Iowa in the 2023 Final Four, Dawn Staley was severely critical of the officiating, claiming that they were unqualified.
One of the refs was Branda Pantoja, who officiated tonight's game.

Right on brother. Whole thing is above the BY pay grade. Geno owes nobody here nothing. This is a for better or for worse moment. He loves his family, loves his team, loves UConn.

Official trying to seem unbiased against SC by being in biased in their favor? Hm.

It seems like the referees let three of the four teams play physical, agressive defense.
South Carolina almost had as many foul shots as the other three teams combined.
UCONN- 6 foul shots
Texas- 5 foul shots
UCLA - 12 foul shots
SC- 22 fouls shots
And people will look at this and claim SC didn’t have any kind of advantage. UConn can play poorly AND the officiating can be bad. They’re not mutually exclusive.

Long time lurker -- first post here. Huge Gamecock fan. So much respect to the Huskies for setting and maintaining such a high standard over the years -- and kudos to the great fans here on the Boneyard. Your collective responses tonight validate the passion and class that have defined the program, and I particularly appreciate the willingness on the part of most to admit that Geno crossed a line -- even though that does not define him nor his career. I do believe that the rigors and physicality of the SEC as well as many more highly competitive games were incredibly important for Carolina tonight

GOAT coaches don’t act like Geno did with Dawn and walk out on their team when they needed his support!
False. Geno is unequivocally the greatest women’s college basketball coach of all time.

.-.
Geno - GOAT coach
Take the pressure off his Star players performance and putting it on himself because he can handle the outcry. He is the Master. I think that is what we saw with the handshake fiasco.

I never commented or made any predictions about the FF games on this site at all because I suspected that UConn wouldn't beat South Carolina or Texas.

My technical reasons?

Throughout the season, UConn scored a lot of points via press turnovers and uncontested 3pt shots, primarily against a lot of nonathletic and poorly skilled teams plus a handful of surprised decent teams. Against modestly good defenses, however, which could limit these forms of scoring, UConn had to generate points via two point scores out of their half court offense. The Huskies were never very good at this, unlike many of the backdooring and vivisecting UConn teams of yore.

Both South Carolina and Texas have tall and athletic basketball players, and I doubted that UConn could get press turnovers and wide open 3pt shots against their elite defenses, especially with its low scoring guards and centers.

Indeed, UConn's defense today performed decently even without an effective press, holding a powerhouse South Carolina offense to just 62 points on 38% shooting. Unfortunately, with their turnover and wide open three point offense shut down, UConn had to resort to an effete half court offense. All they were able to do was run handoffs off a weave way out beyond the 3pt arc, followed by some low quality long shots or missed drives against strong defensive pressure.

When a team does not have a Swiss Watch half court offense, sometimes games can nevertheless be won by quick and athletic self-creation scorers—streetballers— who have body and touch control at the rim. Unfortunately, too, this UConn team does not have such players, other than somewhat from Sarah Strong.
great post but the game was still there to win
last 3 minutes of q/2 up by 6 and azzi misses 2 wide open 3
and instead of a 8 point lead only up 2
the team played poorly offensively so car had a lot to fo with that but a lot was self inflicted
that’s sports
