South Carolina Postgame Thread

We should wait until we know all the facts before we demand an apology. You think Dawn would ever apologize? Not in this lifetime.
I agree. We don’t know what happened at the end and we don’t know what led up to it. Clearly Geno was upset. And clearly Dawn reacted VERY STRONGLY. Maybe we’ll never know. But let’s not assume that we do know. One thing I do know - Geno is usually a very good loser. Congratulations always go to those who beat him. It’ll be interesting to see what goes down in the pressers.

I was in Cleveland for the FF in 2024 - it sucked losing to Iowa in the semifinal. But that year we essentially played with six players.

Silver lining was that the very next day Sarah Strong announced her commitment to UConn (I was touring the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame when the news hit).

I'm going to scan the news tomorrow, maybe lightning will strike again!

Great season, lots of fun to support this team. Tonight they were simply outplayed, it happens. They will be back!
We're gonna need it to, because the roster will be lacking a sorely needed athletic 2 guard. The players will all need to work hard this summer, especially KK.

Geno also walked out on his team walking off the court something he would kill anyone of his players for. I hope he comes clean to the team first and takes accountability to them before speaking to the press. Take accountability say ya lost it and I have to compose myself better then that.

If you were gonna go off the handle at least do it early and get a tech then calm yourself and the team down.
Yes , he did walk out on his team.

Long time lurker -- first post here. Huge Gamecock fan. So much respect to the Huskies for setting and maintaining such a high standard over the years -- and kudos to the great fans here on the Boneyard. Your collective responses tonight validate the passion and class that have defined the program, and I particularly appreciate the willingness on the part of most to admit that Geno crossed a line -- even though that does not define him nor his career. I do believe that the rigors and physicality of the SEC as well as many more highly competitive games were incredibly important for Carolina tonight

I’m sorry K9 felt so bad about that missed layup, the game was truly over though by that point. I am not sure UConn scored another point.

Still though. She tried really hard. And she obviously cared. And I love that about her.
Can't wait to see her turn it into fight next year. Felt really bad for her.

I’m in the minority. I support Geno Auriemma. Yes he lost his cool, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. He’s gained my trust in him as a person for me to give him the benefit of the doubt. Geno you’ll come back better after this, go scorched earth amd do what you need to do to get back to the very top again.

Never bought into this team being better than last year. You don’t lose someone like of Paige’s quality and get better. But that didn’t fit with BY dogma.

Serah was a mystery. I’m stunned that she was getting double teamed at WI. She showed no offensive skills in the times I saw her.
Serah...confuzzled me all year

The officiating was garbage. UConn’s play in this game was dismal. But the officiating was offensively lopsided in SC’s favor. I still think SC would have won regardless but come on.

Hats off for a great run. However, I think this game was incredibly bad on both ends. From the shooting, to the “defense” that really was just over physicality and fouls, to just the flow.

Moving forward, I don’t think KK Arnold needs to be the starting PG next season. She offered nothing today. I also do not think Ziebell is going to be ready to contribute next season, they have got to find a way to find some help for Strong. I think Geno needs to hit the portal hard for some shot creation and athleticism.
Listen we had a bad game and our 2 best players in particular performed terribly for them, especially Azzi. But to make statements and assertions like that about KK is thoroughly ridiculous and without merit. She played unbelievable defense and had 4 or 5 assists a few steals and no turnovers and just shattered the UConn team record of Paige for assist to turnover ratio for a season. She shouldn’t be our starting PG and offered nothing; unbelievable!

I agree.

Geno clearly said something in anger that he shouldn’t have done. Dawn made a big deal about it. Sorry but watch the exchange again

Did Geno walk out because a ref pointed get out, Ie thrown out

Physical defense or illegal defense? You can't by rule, hold, grab a jersey, etc.
Yet somehow they did. How many times this year have you seen Azzi and Strong play this passively and stay on the perimeter?

Agreed. She loses her confidence very fast and does not shoot. We all love Nika but it is not the NC recipe
I don't think KK will ever be a good shooter. After not being a starter on last year's team, I believed that she would have worked on her shooting more but it seems that she is no better. It was the real reason that K Chen was the starter and better point guard. I am afraid that if she doesn't improve by working harder during off season that her WNBA draft prospect will be very low. Defense is excellent but you also have to shoot pretty good if you plan to be a good point guard. There are many good 2way players and being only a defensive player is out of balance.

Nika was drafted and she was even less of a scorer than KK

The Woody Hayes comparisons are a bit extreme. Woody punched an opposing player. Geno got into a shouting match with an opposing coach. Not the greatest look, as they say, but it's hardly something that is going to be remembered 10 years from now when people are talking about Geno's career. I found it more fascinating and vaguely thrilling than an indictment of his character.
