South Carolina @ Maryland

South Carolina looks good. Eight different players have scored for them already. Patient on offense, disruptive on defense.

Tyasha Harris is very impressive to me. Lots of poise and quiet confidence. Makes good decisions and understands tempo.

wow, SC is treating MD almost as roughly as UConn treated Stanford....

I wish that little section at the bottom of the screen where the score and clock is would be a bit bigger - it's tough to read on a smaller screen.

Herbert-Harrigan got a great block but then got the technical for taunting. MD made both FTs and then got a 3 on the next ball, essentially a 5-point possession. Maryland has now settled into its offense. Blair Watson has announced herself as a 3-point threat.

At least in the beginning, SC looks good offensively. They are passing the ball well, shooting the three and rebounding well. They look alot like UConn offensively.
Geno would lose his mind if our guards were passing the ball with one hand around the perimeter.

I remember when Taurasi in her first two years would inbound the ball one-handed.

Wilson's gonna be a lot to handle this year. Z is going to have to guard her.

I do like that the whole game plan isn't toss it to Wilson. I also like that they are moving. You still can tell they are far more comfortable on defense than offense though. SCar just went 4 out 1 in. I'm not sure about all these fouls though.....

Funny, I remember reading here people being unimpressed every time South Carolina and Mississippi State played last year. I think it turned out well for them.
And.....

Nice crowd on hand, but not a sell-out like against UConn. South Carolina came to play....51-36 at the half. Lindsay Spann and Alexis Jennings were good pickups for Coach Dawn Staley. Lindsay is playing on home turf basically, a native of Laurel, Md..which is right up the road.

As I said, I think SC is playing well offensively but what separates UConn with SC for this game is the defense. SC does not play in your face defense and MD is getting some good looks.

The danger of hitting some early 3s is that you fall in love with the 3. Brenda's defensive plan is clearly to clog the middle with the zone and dare SC to shoot from outside. SC started settling a lot finished the half 5-14 from 3.

After a fairly quiet 1st quarter, A'ja turned on the rebounding jets and already has 5 O-boards, often forcing MD to foul her. She's now 8-10 from the FT line.
