Sophomore Anastasia Hayes Dismissed from UT

Whoa, I would think that would hurt. Wasn't TN, or at least didn't TN think, they were in line for several younger sisters, as a result of the eldest choosing TN?
I can't imagine the rule violation, but it must have been significant. I hope the youngster rebounds from this. All young kids make mistakes. I hope she is able to grow and learn from it, and didn't destroy all hopes of a future in basketball.

I agree kid (all people regardless of age) make bad decisions. If that were not the case there would be fewer humans I would assume. While the short term effect on the player may be painful the lesson learned may be one for life. That would appear to be a win-win for both.

Not that having too many guards has ever been an issue for OSU, but they currently have two guards committed for the 2019 season, one freshmen guard on the team, and are in on Horston, Cooke, and Blackwell...so not sure they'd have room unless they start to feel they are going to miss out on those three.

Miss St. seems like a good space for her to start fresh. Vic is a good coach, she'd be in for big coaching change ha.

Her final six in high school were: SEC schools Tennessee, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Florida, Kentucky and Texas A&M.

I agree with your thoughts on Mississippi State.
And while Coach Staley is always open to transfers and those from U of Tenn, she seems to have a mess of PG talent right now and in the near future.

Besides Ohio State, here's another non-SEC idea: Middle Tennessee State.
When Hayes was being initially recruited, the then head coach at Ole Miss was Matt Insell, who has since been fired and is now an assistant at Middle Tennessee State for his dad, Rick. Older Insell has a solid record for the Blue Raiders and if he could get a blue chipper, he could run with it in that conference.

And Middle Tenn happens to be in Hayes' hometown. Initially you want to get out of town, but second time around.....who knows?Plus her younger sisters are there and they're supposed to be very tight.
I would expect both Insells to at least make a move.

Petty! Will be paying attention to my twitter feed, because I know they're about to let fly all kinds of accusations against Holly and UT.
I remember last year during the season when the dad went on a rant during the game while UT was playing, because his daughter was benched because she was playing awful. He accused Holly of playing favorites, because Westbrook starting even though played about the same minutes.

I read on twitter it may have been Marijuana related. That may have been one violation as it seemed there were multiple. They possibly wanted her out if the dad was a pain and that was an opportunity

Whoa.....

Look out for MTSU, Memphis, or even Kentucky.

Interesting note of Hayes game last year. She changed the complexion of games with her offensive game and her ability to get to the free throw line. She was very crafty in the lane. I always felt she should have been the starting PG with Westbrook as the 2.

I am interested to see where she lands because her sisters are likely to follow.

She made far too many turnovers, even for a freshman, imo.

Yes--she was turnover prone but that is part of coaching. Teaching how to fast with pace and purpose. I think she could have and still can be taught that.

I think 3rd or 4th in the SEC would be a nice accomplishment.
With that talented crew anything less than 2 wins at the Dance will be a disappointment.

Amazed that Hayes would get kicked off for smoking weed while other players get off easy for far worse offenses. If that’s all she was kicked off for, I wish the best to Hayes and hope she excels wherever she ends up transferring to.

Name the "worse" offenses? Or are you just making things up?

TN 18-19 roster:

possible starters: G Westbrook (So), G MemeJ (Sr), W Davis (So), F Collins (Fr), F CGreen (Sr)
main bench: PG Massengill (Fr), G ZGreen (Fr), C Kushkituah (So)
rest: W Burrell (Fr), C Harris (Jr)

Oh I forgot the transfer F Brown (Sr)

“My daughters will be seeking a less restrictive college environment without team rules.” She added, “They might also consider a more traditional environment if they were guaranteed freshman playing time on a contending team, providing they would be exempt from team rules.”:confused:

Might consider the "Baller Brand" route.

;););)

Players getting DUIs, fighting/altercations, shoplifting for starters. Can’t ever recall seeing a player get kicked off a team for these actions. Even the drama last year of UCLA players shoplifting in China and being detained only led to a season long suspension.

Big loss. We will miss that big spark from the bench that she gave us—she was the 6th Woman of the Year in the SEC last year.

Begs the question of what really happened. Hard to fathom what "multiple" violations led to this.

Obviously it appears that the parents don't believe rules apply to them so I am sure that the children don't either so I am sure there were lots of rule violations in addition to pot. In a team situation you just can't have one person not following the rules no matter how good they are. This just reinforces the UConn philosophy on recruiting, structure, and professional no matter whole the player is....

Good luck with that.

Where’d you see that quote? Have a hard time believing any parent would actually be that bold and didn’t see it anywhere in the article.

Your posted "quote" might be taken literally, as opposed to sarcasm.

I'll stick my neck out on this one (Though, not very far) and declare that quote as sarcasm. It was not a direct quote (Despite the inclusion of quotation marks).

To be fair, all Hayes' mom said was "They still have standing offers, but they will not be going there," Sherry Hayes wrote in a direct message on Twitter.

I have no idea what transpired or went on behind closed doors, but I do enjoy the drama and angst revolving around the program. It seems every few years the team "gets rid of a cancer or chemistry problem" (not saying anyone was quoted as saying this), and yet problems continue to exist.

First it was Deshields. Then Cooper. Then Nared and Russel (lack of leadership and effort who underperformed). Now it's Hayes. For all the "terrific" recruiting that Tennessee is doing lately, they seem to continue to get kids who have problems there.

Perhaps Warlick should stop going after every top kid in the rankings and start focusing on kids who are a better fit for what she's trying to accomplish. Hope springs eternal at Rocky Top. "NOW we finally have the right players who will have great chemistry"... Um, yeah, stay tuned...

You're kidding right Eric? All Holly is trying to accomplish is collect that fat salary as long as she can.
