OT: Songs that make you sad...for whatever reason

If you've ever cared for/are caring for an aging parent.

Kenny Chesney - While He Still Knows Who I Am

Oh, 64Z, that reminds me of this one that I first heard on the Carson show when it came out. I was bawling by the time she finished singing.

They used this tune in the movie BRASSED OFF, about the shutting down of the coal mines, and the effects on working class people. This scene is about a female flugel horn player auditioning for an all male collierie brass band. She claims to be a "bit wobbly", but wows the men. Very emotional. Works if you click on the link. Trustworthy..

Gracias, hombre. Me ha tocado hasta el meollo…

It’s a very touching piece, as Rodrigo wrote it in memory of his child who had died, a miscarriage. I first heard it played in Aranjuez over sixty years ago. Still makes me cry.

Thank you.

this one always get me crying. Paul Walker was my fav actor and this is from his last movie (Furious 7). This is the tribute at the end for him.

If I Could Reach You
Marilyn McCoo gorgeous voice.

Someone synced this song with the ending of the The Children’s Hour movie.
Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine. Recommend that movie.

One Last Goodbye

Vincent Cavanagh on vocals.
Daniel Cavanagh wrote this song after their mother passed away.

And somehow I knew you could never, never stay
And somehow I knew you would leave me

And in the early morning light after a silent peaceful night
You took my heart away, oh I wish, I wish you could have stayed

RIP Toy.

I've got a couple to post that I don't think have been mentioned. Here is the first.

And the last one for now. It's a bright sunny day here. I don't need sad songs today. ;)

A love so strong it hurts

I look into your eyes
See my life defined

Look into your eyes
See your heart in mine

The Highwayman is a well-known poem written by Englishman Alfred Noyes a hundred or so years ago. It's been used in various contexts since then, including being made into songs. The best-known is probably that by Phil Ochs. He made it into an achingly beautiful love song. 30 or so years later, Loreena McKennitt wrote it as more of an adventure. The one by Phil gets me every time; I also love the one by Loreena, although I don't find it particularly sad. I'm including both.

Live performance from the late 1990s or early 2000s. Love the instrumental section with Rick Wakeman's keyboard and Steve Howe's guitar.

Melancholy and deeply emotional song. Story of a sculptor mourning his late wife by creating a statue of her.
