Songs About Time

Someone already posted The Rolling Stones cover, but just a few months earlier in 1964 it was recorded by the criminally underappreciated New Orleans legend Irma Thomas.

She is now 80 years old. Lives in new Orleans and still performs. AKA The Soul Queen of New Orleans.

She's one of those hidden gems that I've always gone out of my way to introduce my friends to.

Here's a really neat (and recent) piece about the history of the song. Originally recorded in '63 by jazz trombonist Kai Winding and his orchestra. Her version, recorded in early 1964, featured additional lyrics and a rather different arrangement; The Stones, later the same year, then covered her version. She would not perform it for many years, until Bonnie Raitt in the '90s nudged her to sing it again.

George Harrison's ode to the female fans who hung out at the Apple studios:

You've been stood around for years
Seen my smiles and touched my tears
How it's been a long, long time
And how you've been on my mind, my Apple Scruffs.....
