Songs About Time

Now Death, your hands are icy, you've got them on my knee:

.-.
The late, great, John Prine:

We had an apartment in the city
Me and Loretta liked living there
Well, it'd been years since the kids had grown
A life of their own, left us alone......

.-.
Danny O'Keefe, The Road:

Blues in old motel rooms
Girls in Daddies' cars
You sing about the nights
You laugh about the scars
Coffee in the morning
Cocaine afternoons
You talk about the weather
You grin about the room.....

Another Danny O'Keefe song, "Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues":

Everybody's leavin' town
Some caught a freight, some caught a plane
Find the sunshine, leave the rain
They said this town's a waste of time
I guess they're right, it's wastin' mine....

.-.
Here's Joan Baez doing an absolute tearjerker written by Tom Waits, about a soldier in the Middle East waiting to go home.

So many great songs about time!

This clip of legendary Mexican maestro Juan Gabriel has over 300 million views. One need not know a word of Spanish to appreciate the master class of composition, orchestral arrangement and performance on display here. (Recorded in Mexico City's high temple of the arts, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, just three years before "JuanGa" passed away in 2016.)

Though not mentioned in the title, the fleeting nature of time is all through the lyrics, particularly in the chorus.

.-.
Buy for me the robin, darling, buy for me the wing;
Buy for me a sparrow, almost any flying thing.
And I'll buy for you a tree, my love, where a robin's nest may grow.
Buy it for me now, babe, the years all hurry so....
