Songs About Time

Here's Joan Baez doing an absolute tearjerker written by Tom Waits, about a soldier in the Middle East waiting to go home.

So many great songs about time!

This clip of legendary Mexican maestro Juan Gabriel has over 300 million views. One need not know a word of Spanish to appreciate the master class of composition, orchestral arrangement and performance on display here. (Recorded in Mexico City's high temple of the arts, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, just three years before "JuanGa" passed away in 2016.)

Though not mentioned in the title, the fleeting nature of time is all through the lyrics, particularly in the chorus.

Buy for me the robin, darling, buy for me the wing;
Buy for me a sparrow, almost any flying thing.
And I'll buy for you a tree, my love, where a robin's nest may grow.
Buy it for me now, babe, the years all hurry so....

.-.
Lived on Goose Creek most of my life,
spent 10 long years looking for my wife....

.-.
Voices of yesterday make not a sound
Even the roundabout stopped going 'round
I wonder just what it means
Is everything how it seems....?

This is from a whole album about time. Chorus:

This is the dawn of time
I am the first to stand
Looking through the eyes of the primal man
this is the dawn of time
A withess to the birth
I am the first man on Earth

.-.
One of those FM staple songs of the 70's, pure musical bliss:

If you had just a minute to breathe
And they granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance
Or something sim'lar as this
Don't worry too much It'll happen to you...

Another gem:

Come down off your throne and leave your body alone
Somebody must change
You are the reason I've been waiting all these years
Somebody holds the key
Well, I'm near the end and I just ain't got the time
And I'm wasted and I can't find my way home...

“Somewhere” from “West Side Story”:

There's a time for us
Someday a time for us
Time together with time to spare
Time to learn
Time to care

There's a place for us
A time and place for us
Hold my hand and we're halfway there
Hold my hand and I'll take you there

Somehow
Someday
Somewhere

I can never watch this scene where Maria sings it to Tony as he’s dying (sorry for any spoilers!) without my allergies kicking in….

I've been walkin' in my sleep
Countin' troubles 'stead of countin' sheep
Where the years went I can't say
I just turned around and they've gone away...

.-.
Looking back it makes me wonder
Where we’re going how long we’ll stay
I know the road brings rain and thunder
But for the journey what will we pay....

Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames - from the soundtrack of the great series "The Queen's Gambit":

Every evening, when all my days work is through
I call my baby, and ask her what shall we do
I mention movies, but she don't seem to dig that
And then she ask me, why don't i come to her flat
And have some supper and let the evening pass by
