OT: Songs About Strong Moods and Emotions

Touching movie, storied song, and Dexter Gordon. Shakes me up every time. The tribute to Coleman Hawkins and the 1930s recording is another layer of emotion. And…Mr. McLaughlin.

PS- Yeah, the film print is backwards.

All Things Considered had a series, probablu around 2000, on the greatest recordings of the 20th century. One of those chosen was the Hawkins recording of Body and Soul. I’m not sure I was aware of it before that, but I sure have grown to love it.

For those who have yet to enjoy it… He improvises around the melody without ever playing it. Pretty special for an 85 year old performance!

"The Trouble with Love" - Kelly Clarkson
"Lose Control" - Teddy Swims

I'm on my work laptop and it won't allow me to post video. But all three are well worth your time.

Love my live iTunes version where it sounds like a guitar string snaps.

Nice! Diggin' the intro.
I generally prefer live cuts if they are well-recorded with good audio. Sometimes ya get some cool variations from the studio tracks.

James Brown's King Heroin is quite the incredible emotional hammer:

Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn
Remember how she said that we would meet again, some sunny day………..
Vera, Vera, ……. what has become of you……….
Does anybody else in here feel the way I do??????
Vera Lynn's other heart-tugging song is White Cliffs of Dover. You can imagine Londoners experiencing the Blitz while you listen to it.

I'll never forget the people I met
Braving those angry skies
I remember well as the shadows fell
The light of hope in their eyes...

I don't think I would have noticed John McLaughlin if you hadn't pointed him out. I listened to his Mahavishnu Orchestra LPs about a thousand times when I was younger.
