Another difference between Stef and Tina is that Tina did not have Stef's nice soft hands when catching the ball. It may be that strength holding on to the ball and soft hands receiving the ball are less than completely compatible.
That's a reasonable observation re: Stef's [good] hands. On the flip side, Stef's athleticism does not allow her to make herself a really big target, unlike Maya--an extreme case--or also Tina, in her latter years at least. For someone 6'0" tall, Maya was a humongous target. She turned many a potential turnover into not only a retained possession but also a bucket. Tina had good enough quickness and agility for her size that she could spring from her post position to snare entry passes that were close if not spot-on, and was also better at collecting low bounce passes than Stef.
Tina and Maya also were able to 'come back' to entry passes that were a little too soft, reducing the chances of the defender getting around front to tip it or steal it, like an NFL receiver smartly coming back to the ball to prevent interceptions. When Stef has leans her weight back into her defender, she is not able to shift her center of gravity and come back as quickly. She is taller and bigger than both Tina and obviously Maya, so this is not a knock on Stef's effort.
Someone made a very nifty entry pass into Stef last night on the right block, a crisp bounce pass that was well-executed and much less at risk of being picked off, the way it was angled. More of these as appropriate, please! I see way too many lazy/floating entry passes much of the time, and these are getting picked off periodically.
