Bob Hurley Sr. never sent us any of his great players. And now we learn he also told Dan he "had to" leave UConn and take the Laker job. I mean, c'mon. What did we do to him? All those D1 players and no Huskies.

BTW, don't say RJ. RJ only came to UConn after Bob's son was the head man at UConn.

Based on the notable players below, seems like BHS's players leaned heavily towards east coast schools...especially catholic...both of which of course makes sense.

Dominic Cheek, Villanova
Terry Dehere, Seton Hall
Danny Hurley, Seton Hall
Roshown McLeod, St. John's
David Rivers, Notre Dame

Kyle Anderson, UCLA
Jio Fontan, USC
Bobby Hurley, Duke
Rodrick Rhodes, Kentucky
Mike Rosario, Rutgers
Tyshawn Taylor, Kansas
Travon Woodall, Pittsburgh

hating on Bob Hurley Sr when hes helped Danny a ton since he got here is a dumb choice

I don't hate him. It does seem to me like he didn't like us. And I thought this before Dan was our coach. I mean both Hurley and Calhoun were two tough Irish SOBs. But the connection never got made.

His father simply saw the 70 million not the massive travel away from family and numbers of games and players who may or may not listen to him. Fortunately for us it didn’t sway him but if we think about it Danny has quite a nice thing going here. Very well compensated, biggest sports guy in the state, great coaching team drawing the best talent AND a chance to be immortal in coaching. (no he’s not there yet). He’s not exactly suffering.
Oh I forgot. Arguably the best and most committed fanbase in the country

I imagine it more coming from a place of “what if?” regarding his own coaching career, and now he’s living vicariously through his son.

If true, it's an odd statement from a man who passed on many opportunities to coach high school ball in NJ his entire career.

I think Andrea has more influence on Danny than Bob Sr does at this stage of Danny’s life. Bob Sr and Bobby are not far behind, though imo.

Eh I see it the opposite. He stayed put and maybe has some regrets about it and wonders how far up the ladder he could have climbed. Maybe with that experience he wanted different for his talented kid.

Or, he did not have confidence in his son's ability to continue winning at the college level, so he wanted him to take the payday before opportunities like that slip away.

no, I don't think that's what happened but there's an endless number of possibilities.

My take is that he wants his son to get the most out of his career and maybe he (Sr) has a little regret that he did not chase some of his dreams to stay at St Anthony. He had the opportunities to provide a better life for his family but as we know he was/is stubborn as heck and decided to stay when those opportunities were knocking on his front door.

In the end Danny is making more money in a year than Sr probably made in his whole life coaching St Anthony so it is a bit different situation.

I don't understand the need for this thread
I could care less about what the father thinks or says - I feel like he just misses the spotlight
He had his chances to go places while coaching but made his decision to stay put, - so did his son.
Now he is TV camera bait - every darn game😁🙃

The thread is OK and we shouldn’t feel threatened or distressed by his comments. He is a tremendous resource for Danny in his coaching and is a huge plus for him. Bench coach in the stands.
But what happens these days in case anyone notices is that little statements or quotes are given outsized importance (in our state) where UConn is THE only game.

The landscape is certainly changing and getting more difficult - NBA life for a coach with that job and payday is objectively easier…so that’s probably where the advice stems from. I wouldn’t be inclined to hold that against Sr. for giving rational advice on changing your life for the better. That’s kinda his role.

That kind of money may be able to change his life for the better. But he's already wealthy. Success at that level is the only thing that would really make a difference and that's a big question mark.
