So let me get this straight

I don't understand the need for this thread
I could care less about what the father thinks or says - I feel like he just misses the spotlight
He had his chances to go places while coaching but made his decision to stay put, - so did his son.
Now he is TV camera bait - every darn gamešŸ˜šŸ™ƒ

The thread is OK and we shouldn’t feel threatened or distressed by his comments. He is a tremendous resource for Danny in his coaching and is a huge plus for him. Bench coach in the stands.
But what happens these days in case anyone notices is that little statements or quotes are given outsized importance (in our state) where UConn is THE only game.

Or, he did not have confidence in his son's ability to continue winning at the college level, so he wanted him to take the payday before opportunities like that slip away.

no, I don't think that's what happened but there's an endless number of possibilities.

The landscape is certainly changing and getting more difficult - NBA life for a coach with that job and payday is objectively easier…so that’s probably where the advice stems from. I wouldn’t be inclined to hold that against Sr. for giving rational advice on changing your life for the better. That’s kinda his role.

That kind of money may be able to change his life for the better. But he's already wealthy. Success at that level is the only thing that would really make a difference and that's a big question mark.

Dan also said in that podcast that his father always pushed him to take the next big step. Which means Bob Sr probably told Dan to leave Rhody for UConn.
