So let me get this straight

It also works both ways... how many of these kids did Calhoun recruit?
That's my understanding of what caused the falling out. Hurley wanted Calhoun to give one of his kids a look, and Calhoun was interested. After that, Hurley was never interested in Connecticut.

Eh I see it the opposite. He stayed put and maybe has some regrets about it and wonders how far up the ladder he could have climbed. Maybe with that experience he wanted different for his talented kid.
This definitely may be true, but I see staying as a HS coach when you have other options as a much bigger sacrifice than staying in college when you could coach the modern day Lakers.

Being a top college coach gives you the opportunity to be a true star with name recognition. HS doesn’t offer that. The vast majority of households in the U.S. probably know who Coach K is, for example (also probably more people know Coach K than any NBA coach, but that’s beside the point).

I’m also not trying to refute your point, more his logic if that actually was the case.

I don't hate him. It does seem to me like he didn't like us. And I thought this before Dan was our coach. I mean both Hurley and Calhoun were two tough Irish SOBs. But the connection never got made.
Maybe being two of a kind was an issue?
Maybe we were so bad before Calhoun that a trend became cast in stone?
But here we go with someone assigning hate as your motive for raising a question. When did a difference of opinion or raising a question become a form of hatred?

Have lived in Jersey City since the early 90s - this thread is a nonstarter.

There is no beef to quash.

His father simply saw the 70 million not the massive travel away from family and numbers of games and players who may or may not listen to him.
At that salary there is no massive travel. Massive travel was my daily 2 hour NYC commute (from CT) sharing train seats with strangers for chump change.

Coach dogged a bullet by staying put. As bad a match for pro ball as Pitino.
I disagree. He would make adjustments where necessary. I also think JC would have been a success in the NBA if given a decent chance.

Doesn’t matter how luxurious that plane is because you are constantly changing time zones which is brutal on sleep. Also way more time away from his wife and family with that number of games in that NBA grind. So you take away recruiting which is an advantage on the pro side but obviously it’s something he can do in the future with even more money. He’s now making multi millions and quite comfy.

if you put it that way it evokes Pink Floyd’s “Wish you were Here” as there is a section about exchanging something difficult for comfort.

If you enjoy recruiting new kids and really working on getting players individually and collectively better as players and men; with the ability to get/keep the assistant coaches he has; taking the NBA job at this point in his career would have risked much more personal down side than upside. That's even before counting the downside of no more boneyard experts willing to assist you for free.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Sr. doesn’t hold UConn in the highest esteem. But he’s probably put those feelings aside to support his son.

His father simply saw the 70 million not the massive travel away from family and numbers of games and players who may or may not listen to him. Fortunately for us it didn’t sway him but if we think about it Danny has quite a nice thing going here. Very well compensated, biggest sports guy in the state, great coaching team drawing the best talent AND a chance to be immortal in coaching. (no he’s not there yet). He’s not exactly suffering.
Oh I forgot. Arguably the best and most committed fanbase in the country
I kind of marvel at the coaching staff and thinking about how collectively they compliment one another. I think that Kimani has a massive positive influence and passion and at the same time remarkable self control (never loses his cool in the heat of battle). I think the best way to put it is that they all work together and this makes them much better than the sum of the parts. I really hope they stick together.
