You lose a lot of credibility bringing Heron into this discussion. Sure he might not be projected in NBA mock drafts like Brown but the kid averaged 15/6 as a freshman and shot 42% from 3...so he did very very well.
The point was that no one expected Brown to be this good, and they used mock draft to say "who cares, look how good he is, he's projected in the mock draft"
Bringing up that Heron was higher ranked and not in the mock draft (despite a better season statistically) shows that using mock draft/recruiting rankings is a stupid argument since the Draft doesn't value strictly performance ... not to say that Heron had a bad season (Heron's better season backs my point actually).
Anyway, this has been hashed out way too far. My point was the staff made a decision looking at the roster and decided they didn't need a Combo-2G with an average handle and an average shot, instead getting an AA PG (Gilbert) and later a 2G who could shoot (Vital). Brown blew up long after we had Gilbert signed and even then it wasn't like Duke/UK/Arizona were busting down his door.
If you want to say we still could've and should've taken him, then sure ... hindsight is 20/20. But he wasn't the miss of the century.
