Shout Out to Dan Hurley

Would seem you prefer those coming from the Jay Wright school of coaching class.

JC wasn't going to win a whole lot of awards for congeniality. Great figure to build from nothing in that era. He wouldn't do great with today's athlete. For all the shenanigans Hurley throws, he does offset it with a likeability.

I'm only vaguely familiar with who Jay Wright was. But I agree with your last sentence.

Then a whole lot of NCAA coaches should be getting the T's, because nearly all of them, especially all of the really good ones, complain about every call. Right, wrong or indifferent, they're trying to get the next call. Very few don't work the refs
There's working the refs which I agree with but Danny takes it to a much greater level including a lot of theatrics. Passionately discussing with the refs is fine. You don't have to put on a show and that's how it looks. Getting T'd isn't inherently bad at all. I think he is aware and is trying to curb it this year quite frankly because that style doesn't work for the good of the team. Just my opinion.

Also, while I appreciate this Dan Hurley wins close games, I'd like to see more blowouts.
According to his on court interview after the Butler game it sounds like he would too. He thought that UConn should have won by 25-28 points due to Butler's poor shooting, and I agree.

Vary rare circumstances. The idea a coach getting t'd up fires up his players is batshit stupid. If the team has the game pretty much won and their coach gets tied up they might get a good laugh out of it, but that's about it.
I don't know, Calhoun employed the "tactical technical" from time to time. And at least one occasion, I remember him saying that he followed up in the huddle telling the team "I'm still fighting for you guys. Are you going to fight for yourselves?"

Rumors were he'd get tossed at least once a year so he could just leave. Never in a close game.

I remember one interview where Blaney was asked if he knew Calhoun was gonna get tossed, and he just grinned.

The Calhoun/Blaney coaching collaboration worked out well for us. I think George was often the lead rod that cooled off Calhoun's reactor.

That said, he was quoted as saying that he did it to fire his team up. That said, he used technicals tactically. In the past, that has not been the case with Hurley. So far this season, I think Dan has shown considerable restraint.

Imagine that Calhoun was a savant as it came to the psychology of the game & athlete of his generation. His secret sauce always seemed to be getting his players to play harder than the other side (other than the 2006 team).

JC was extremely likeable and the refs were nowhere near as caustic to JC as they are to Dan Hurley. Dan Hurley may have turned a new leaf, but refs don't have short memories, yes, Dan Hurley has dialed it down but a bit late.
The players almost to a man loved JC and if you don't think JC could meld with today's players you don't know JC. Fortunately I have gotten to know JC rather well over the past 30 years.
