In that time how could you possibly have missed the Perno years?

Perno is a GENIUS compared to what I saw today. Forget the fact that we out talented them at EVERY position. 5 times we couldn’t inbounds the ball. FIVE!!!

When just once would have won the game. I’ve seen 8th grade CYO teams execute better.

What have we put, 7 players into the NBA over the past two years? Need to give Hurley a chance to reload. And he's doing that next year with 3 McDonald's All-Americans plus a supposed stud from overseas. This team is young and not super talented. Not untalented, but not super talented. And unfortunately, AK is having a tough year. To be competitive with the top teams, this roster would need him to be playing like a first team All-American. That's just not been the case this year. Hurley is not the greatest X's & O's coach out there but he's obviously proven he has what it takes to get the job done at the highest level better than just about anybody out there. I suspect he will turn this around and we'll see a much more competitive product next year.

This isn’t about reloading. This is about losing to the worst team in the league. With a 7 point lead with 36 seconds to play. And just needing to get the ball in bounds. 5 times failing to do that effectively. The lack of talent is understandable. Losing to a glorified mid major, though, is not. So stop your foolish excuses.

That's an awful sign. As if AK hasn't already put way too much pressure on himself this entire season. Anybody have the post game presser? Hurley needs to take this off the players and put it squarely on himself.

He will NEVER do that. He’s never taken accountability for any loss, just all the credit for our success. I REALLY wish he took the Lakers job. He’s a punk and an embarrassment to the university with his childish antics.

It’s pretty damn easy to coach a bunch of future NBA players. This year was a year where we REALLY needed some serious coaching and he has failed MISERABLY.

What do you think JC would have said after a game like that today????

This was crushing, and I’m disgusted, but I haven’t given up yet.

We beat nova and St. John’s and we’re back in the game. I’m not sure how the hell we do that after losing to Seton freaking hall but we have to.

Maybe I’m gullible or just a true believer.

I think it was in response to the "F Dan Hurley" chant that the fans were yelling at the beginning of the game.

Obviously this was a tough loss but I am not putting this all on the coaches as most of you are. First and foremost, on the inbounds woes - it’s not like the team doesn’t practice for this. We were pressured like crazy in the St John’s game but were still able to inbound the ball. Seton Hall for some reason played lock down D. Ball also fell at one point and Karaban called the TO with none left. McNeeley launched the ball out of bounds. No matter what you practice, in game experience will always be different. I am not making excuses but it just didn’t go our way. It happens in sports all the time.

Second, how many guys were lost to the NBA over these past two seasons? We don’t have the same talent. Karaban is an all time UConn legend but he is not a #1 option. This team runs through McNeeley and he was out 8 games this year. That coupled with Karaban’s shooting slump and Diarra’s injury has basically meant that we were without three starters a majority of Big East play. Any team down three starter is going to lose some games. Fortunately for us is that we have been close in a lot of them. I think that bodes well for us down the stretch.

The Big East is a gauntlet. It’s like divisional NFL games - you are always going to get the absolute best out of your opponent. We are the two time defending champs. Seton Hall has absolutely nothing to play for. They were
Not going to just roll over and let us cake walk to victory. We were flat, Karaban said it was the players and I believe that. Hopefully this is a wake up call.

Finally, officiating. I’m not using it as an excuse but it’s been abysmal all season and today was no different. People are upset at the Ball foul at the end on the three point shooter but he played great defense the shooter was just able draw contact by falling into him. I hate that rule but it is what it is.

We have some great wins. Marquette and Creighton on the road. A very tough loss to St John’s. We can compete with anyone and I still think winning the BET is possible. I haven’t lost faith in this team. Karaban looks like he broken out of his slump. Diarra played well today and appears on the mend. McNeeley is McNeeley. I still think we can make a run.

How do I dislike this??

He’s got all the clout he needs right now, just don’t let the recruiting fall off. This soph class was brought in pre-first title, so it’s understandable he wasn’t picking off what he can now. Keep it in the top 50, if not top 30. The Flat 5 was Castle, a 45-50 Ball and then 3 kids towards the back 100.

Let’s stop anointing the staff Einstein, Newton and Galileo. They’re good, they’re not racing ahead of the field like Andretti in terms of strategic horsepower. They just happened to land some really good players the last two years.

I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion, but I still expect a Sweet 16 berth this season. I think that's now the ceiling rather than the floor for this team like I did preseason, but I still think it happens

So let’s see what happens going forward. But one thing is for sure, he needs to STFU with the “I’m the best” and “kiss my rings” because success is very fleeting. Today he looked like a complete fraud. Let’s see where he goes from here. His post game press conference does not give me a lot of hope. He needed to wear that loss and he did not.

UConn could have beaten Seton Hall with no coaches today the talent differential is so huge. This is not just a case of the inbounds plays at the end of the game, it was a total offensive and defensive breakdown.

I don't think several players were even running the offense. What was McNeeley doing out there? He seemed in the way as much as he seemed to be in the flow. Several of his baskets were putbacks, and he had a couple of possession killing plays where he tried to get to the hoop, couldn't, and then dumped the ball off with seconds left on the clock. Mahaney got his airball and a trip to the bench after McNeeley had burned 5+ seconds trying to get his own shot and failing, then dumping the ball off to Mahaney with seconds left on the shot clock. McNeeley is a great player, but Hurley lets him do things that are not helpful offensively.

On defense, why was UConn running out at the 3 point line against a team as bad from deep as SHU? Did our coaches even scout this team? This is the second poor 3-point shooting team UConn has lost to in three games. I am fine challenging the shot, but the greater risk with Seton Hall is the penetration, so just take a step back rather than play them like they are Xavier.

The refs lost us the game. As bad as UConn played, a call on the last play on a mauled Solo Ball and UConn wins. You deny that a call on that play and UConn wins? Don't repeat what I already know; that UConn played bad and Dan Hurley made mistakes and so on. And don't tell me Solo was not fouled. I have seen the call made more times than not made. The Karaban quote was bizarre. If in fact there are players that don’t care, would hope to god Hurley purges them out to reinvent the makeup of the team next year. It’s hard to build around apathetic airheads, and you certainly don’t want them to lead the youngens.

Marquette-we shot ridiculous percentages to overcome 25 TO's and win by 8.

Creighton-it took a UConn freshman record 38 points, more than half the team's points, to win by 6. Our two centers combined for 2 points and 7 rebounds and our new soph starting SF, JS, had 5 points and 4 rebounds in 30 minutes.

Today, JS had 3 points and 2 rebounds in 18 minutes. Our two centers combined for a whopping 7 points and 10 rebounds in 45 minutes while the SHU freshman center had 12 points and 10 rebounds in 38 minutes.

Winning that way is not sustainable and winning is not likely when the other team wants it more.

The two championship years never saw games with such wildly unusual stats and inconsistent play by so many, especially the two portal guys and two sophomores from whom much was expected based on what one showed at the end of last year and the other showed in summer workouts.

He needs to bring in some athletes and some dogs. Diarra has it, McNeeley has it. Nobody else on the team has it.

I watched the dunk contest and as much as Jackson stunk in it that's two athletes and two grown men in Castle and Jackson. They'll jump over you and duck* you up in a phone booth.

I don't think we have much of that in this recruiting class either. Furphy is probably tough but he might be overwhelmed by the athleticism his first season. I'm really high on Braylon, everything he does is quick...quick trigger, quick moving the ball, quick in the lane and can get up but everything I see with Adams is slow. He looks every skilled but slow and frail. Haven't seen much of Reibe but again he looks to be skill over athleticism. Not sure how much he'll be ready to mix it up.

UConn has always been a team that was feared because we had athleticism and straight up dogs to go along with skills. Liam, AK, and Solo are all skilled even though AK and Solo are flawed. The point guard situation has exposed their flaws even more. Tarris is a skilled center but coach doesn't seem to be a fan of him. Hass is a dog who is clearly hurting pretty badly now. I have nothing to say about the rest of the players.

Just watched Utah of all teams come up with a smart out of bounds play, up 5 on Kansas with 30 ticks left. They had their best FT shooter (Gabe Madsen) as the inbounder. Mike Sharavjamts goes from inbounds to out of bounds on the baseline, Gabe passes to Mike, then steps inbounds, and Mike immediately returns the pass to Gabe.

Do NOT blame the refs. Do Not blame the players. Do NOT blame anyone other than the coaching staff. If you can’t inbound the ball…you have a coaching problem.

I'm not so sure about that. Whatever plays were drawn up, these college basketball players should have enough basketball smarts and instinct to get the ball in play. It may even be Karaban's fault, being a little too careful. Throw the ball to a player in motion where he can grab it and his defender would have to foul. It really is not rocket science.

Look, you can be up by 20 or down by 20 playing great basketball or playing this crap. Those games often end up being close at the end. Most close games are literally decided in the last minute or two. And THAT is why you can blame the refs if the situation warrants it. When Solo gets the ball I don't think Hurley discussed a scenario and a play to counter getting tackled. That usually takes care of itself.

Someone had mentioned that Marquette and Creighton are no good this year, so our wins mean nothing. Now they are good, but we were lucky. Can you guys get together and get your arguments aligned?

It took a Seton Hall player who shoots 25% from the line, a brick that bounced 2 feet in the air before rimming through the net, on the first of a 1 and 1. The same player fires a bank shot from the foul line on his second attempt of the 1 and 1. But yea, UConn was lucky when they beat M and C.

Solo grabs the ball. The Seton Hall player behind him CLEARLY uses two hands and pushes him towards the other Seton Hall player who plants his feet to make it look like a clean trap, but his upper body CLEARLY pushes Solo backwards.

Perno had his limitations but one of the biggest was how poorly equipped UConn was regarding recruiting in that era.

Read what JC said it was like trying to recruit at UConn when he got here. No academic counselling program, poor facilities, and no basic support for recruiting and retaining players.

Because he was a new hire he got things changed and improved significantly but one example he gave was how the Athletic Department couldn't accept collect calls from recruits who might be calling to accept a scholarship because the state didn't allow collect calls to be accepted. If I recall correctly, he got the Alumni Association to fund a phone line for that purpose.
