I believe the "throw back" that were worn today started in the early 2000's. I know D wore them during her four years.

A feel good win, that I think this team needed. Revitalized by returning to Gampel. Congratulations to Paige, reaching 2000 points faster than Maya is pretty remarkable. Will continue to cherish the moments we have left to marvel at her brilliance.

As others noted, amazing to see the big 3 finally play like the big 3. A trend to watch as I think we go as they go.

So happy for Aubrey. I loved her leaking out in transition, and notice how she posted up purposefully a few times. Her skill set is something we’re really missing. If she can get up to speed and provide 20 min a game, that would be huge. She rebounds, defends, plays great defense, pushes tempo, and draws fouls. A lot of what we are missing.

To stay on theme for the season, could we see a lineup of Kk, Paige, Azzi, Aubrey and Sarah. That would be an experienced, athletic, balanced option.

I’ve got to say, Ash is a warrior in the paint going for rebounds. She boxes out really well and fights off bigger players, often tipping the ball for a teammate. She’s listed as 5-10 in the roster but I think that’s generous.
Ashlynn Shade vs Seton Hall: 15 minutes, 8 points on 100 % shooting ...
3/3 field goals, 2/2 three pointers, four rebounds, three assists, and
tied for the most steals (with KK) at three. She had a +/- of + 30! and
had the third best efficiency rating on the team today 18... behind
Paige and Sarah and slightly ahead of Azzi who was rated at 11.

There is nothing like home cookin'. Anybody want to bet there's a thread on this score in the land of Tennessee? As @oldude noted very fine it was to see Aubrey out there.

The play that had my heart though was earli in the first quarter - maybe mid- and there was a wild scramble on the floor with a loose ball that eventually was corraled by a Seton Hall player who got a couple of strides in when suddenly Paige squeezed onto the sideline and stole it.

Great atmosphere, not quite a full house as the upper level student section was not quite filled. Classes start Tuesday, and I saw more than a few students/parents toting suitcases and laundry baskets into the dorms while we were driving in and out.

I have seen all of their home games and this is the best they have looked all season. Only stumbled a bit against the Seton Hall press in the third quarter and a cold spell for the first half of the fourth. Other than that, really special.

Great energy from the opening tap, which we won for a change. Paige did a good job on Eads and Sarah on Masonius. Actually quite a few players were able to hold Masonius in check and she was very frustrated by the end. She had 29 against LSU and UConn held her to eight. The other players for Seton Hall cannot shoot a lick, so keeping those two in check was the focus. CD said as much in her post game interview with Bob Joyce. (About keeping Eads and Masonius in check that is, she did not comment negatively on the shooting ability of the other Pirates.)

Loved the ball movement and decisiveness when shooting.

Moment of the game - sorry Paige - was when Aubrey went to the scorers table and checked in in the second quarter. I'm not crying, you're crying.

Some interesting box score observations - everyone scored and everyone but Azzi had at least one rebound. Azzi gets the "pure shooter" award as she was 7 for 11 from the field including 4 for 8 from three but aside from three turnovers, had goose eggs in all of the other statistical categories. But that is ok since she was shooting without hesitation and played her usual good defense.

Seeing twelve names in the boxscore is a sight to behold. Also nice seeing Allie ring up a few threes, and Morgan playing another solid all-around game.

The big three is rolling. Really impressed with Azzi's all-around game. Geno used a lot of different combinations, and I'm not surprised that KK got a lot of minutes. She steadies the ship, regardless of who is on the floor. Morgan looks better with each game, and Kaitlyn really seemed more confident and synchronized with what everyone was doing. Aubrey was the cherry on top.

I'm enjoying all of the combos of players on the floor. I think the coaching staff has a lot of things to look at on film that will tell them what works and what doesn't. The "young" lineup in towards the end of the 4Q will reap benefits in the future. Maybe not this year, however the fact that Geno had to play KK and Ash a lot last year, showed that sometimes you have to trust the youngins, inexperience and all. And yes, I'm ok with a less that perfect 4Q to give some of the bench players valuable playing time.

Great job today, out of this world shooting, especially from 3 pt. land. Congrats to Paige, she earned it. Sarah Strong looks like a first or second team All-American.
The only change I would make, and many will disagree, but in my opinion Bueckers should be the PG, with Shade starting instead of Chen or KK...offensively UConn could generate more points because of her passing skills and would still benefit from her shooting.

When Paige, Azzi and Sarah are buzzing like that it's really a sight to see. They just took turns making shot after shot and defensively set the tone. I love when those three bring the ball up, a good thing happened almost every time. This is the first time we've seen all three in full flight and if this is the worst it looks, they have a strong foundation for a March run.

Chen played well defensively and in these kind of games, it was exactly what was needed. Against elite teams, her offensive game will be a defining factor but taking charges and effort plays, well done, I'll back off her for now.

Aubrey is back and goodness it was good to see her. Brady looks like she's tired of being on the bench and had a different intensity level this game, El Alfy is gaining her confidence. Shade smiling and knocking down shots was great. Everyone scored, and it was a great Sunday win.

Great all around game today. Was a pleasure to see how good we can be is Paige, Sarah and Azzi are in the zone.

Need to work on the press break to get ready for Tennessee!
Agree
The problems with the press brought back bad memories

Congrats to Jana El Alfy on taking less than 10 games to figure out which way to bang the game opening jump ball. Well done. And a shoutout to another freshman, Morgan Cheli, she just gets it. I knew her BB IQ and fundamental skills were better than most incoming freshmen but at the rate she's adjusting to the physicality and pace of play, by tournament time she is going to be a serious factor in the short rotation. Nothing bothers her and she plays her butt off.

I thought the same thing about Jana. :)

I love Shade’s game. She doesn’t get enough credit for her solid play and ability to play the role that is needed each game.

Looks like a really nice win. The big three getting in rhythm is starting to show us the potential. Im intrigued now to see how we do against a top ten/15 team that plays good defense. We have the parts but can we consistently shoot well enough, because we don’t really have a post game.

Good point! Our point guards dribble a lot but with improved down court options, that might change. In this game we shot so well it didn't matter but being able to get the ball into El Alfy more or a double high post option could result in improved inside play. Hoping KK can finish better. She sure can find the seams and needs to complete the play.
I don't think she should be trying to finish or even thinking about finishing. Get the ball up court to Azzi, Paige or Sarah and now Aubrey and sometimes Morgan all of whom know how to get ahead of the defensive rebound. Problem is neither Chen nor Arnold are true point guards and KK is still trying to do what she did in high school and Chen is trying to do what she did last year. I'm not being critical, just realistic. Nika would average 12 assists a game with this team.

UConn's bench almost matched Seton Hall's total points 33 to 36 and was a point off of matching their starting 5 33 to 34. Today the bench played more total minutes than the starters, 101 to 99.

Only 12?;)

I was wicked bummed toward the end of the game, knowing the naysayers would be denied the chance to flood this thread with their doom and gloom. :D
I'll make you feel better by saying "It's about time they played well".

Ash is in the perfect role for her abilities and I believe is more comfortable coming off the bench (she is not a pressure shooter). The combo PG of Kaitlyn/KK allows the big 3 to operate closer to the basket and gives the opposition more shooters to cover.
