Seth Davis: BE "Top Tier" Does Not Include UConn

1 game is “separation”. The conference is FAR from decided. Making that call 7 games into conference play is dumb. No one has separated themselves from anyone. A 2 game lead is not significant.
The fact is UConn has played basically all of its hardest away game already the others have played few to none. Right now the top group has no road winners in games between them so there is a lot of game to play and will probably come down to who can win more of these away games

The Rose Colored Glassed Brigade out in full force here.

We are talking Big East Conference here. The way conferences work is that you play games against people, and the ones that win the most games win the conference - no one cares about what happens out of conference with regards to conference standings. You will see from my deep analytics background how I have shown you the 2 game lead that the three leaders have carved out early in the season. This can also be referred to in human english by definition as "separation".

These math dudes would be the same people celebrating Duke’s end of season “number 1 ranking” after we beat them in the 99 NC game. Incredible,

He's always down on UConn. The Dookie is still butthurt about 1999 and 2004. And that is the truth.
He excitedly pants like a puppy when he gets going, but what would you expect from the offspring of Lanny?

Seth Davis is an idiot, but in terms of Big East chances here's the latest from Torvik

I suppose one could argue that the team with the highest ranking by all measures has been by-passed by three programs with lower rankings. Not sure who would give you much cred after that argument but being credible doesn't appear to be on Seth's agenda. Besides, didn't he just rank us in the top 5 recently?

And for what it’s worth, our collective expectation that four (or maybe even five) teams have a legitimate shot at the regular season title is backed up by his projections. I enjoy being in a good basketball conference again. Conference play is so exciting.

Seth Davis never learned how to read a schedule obviuosly....if he had he might realize that UConn has a front loaded schedule in BE and the current leaders have a back loaded schedule.

In the end UConn, X & Marquette should be pretty closely bunched.

Seth Davis reacts to what’s in front of him. His top tier of teams will change every week from here till end of season

We have not feared well on the road in the Big East against the other top teams. Until we do, the critics are not going to be nice. Getting revenge at home against those teams is not the same as sweeping them to show we're the dominant team. Both Xavier and Marquette won at Nova which is a task we must do.

Davis is right.

Hurley failed to develop a point guard, ran off the only two on the roster and then got out-portaled.

This team got figured out and is now an easy mark.
But a lot of people’s answer will be get another in the portal.

How about he just fricking coaches.

Happened to catch Clark Kellogg and Seth Davis talking about the BE on CBS this afternoon. Showed BE standings with Xavier and Providence at 6-0 and Marquette at 6-1. Davis notes how UConn, after its "fast start" has fallen back, its guards being exposed as "perhaps good shooters but unable to set up plays for others." He opines that the "top tier" of the BE -- Xavier, Providence and Marquette -- seems to have "separated itself" from the rest of the field.

It's absolutely dizzying how quickly teams can rise in accreditation by beating UConn in their own gyms. No need to wait until the return matches are played at UConn and down the line at MSG. UConn apparently is such a great team that just beating them on your home court establishes your superiority. A curious bit of logic -- and one that leaves this particular UConn fan virtually drooling at the opportunities ahead to enlighten BE basketball commentators.
After today’s performance are you questioning his evaluation at all?

We have a major coaching problem, talent only takes you so far.
