You calling us weak?

Last. Baylor needed to go to Stockton and UScar at least to OKC. Damn shame. Again. What needs to happen is to have UScar to host. That fan base is among the best in the country and they'd fill the place every game. Damn shame. FF anyway. Double damn shame.

Yes, that's the strict S-curve. But the committee must deviate from the strict S-curve to accommodate for conference conflicts, etc.
Well, with the ACC having 5 teams among the Top 16 (Notre Dame, Duke, Fla. State, Louisville, and Miami), one region was going to have two ACC teams. So, FSU and Miami both from ACC in Top 4 in Stockton.

If they had flipped UCLA and Miami, then the PAC would also end up unnecessarily having two teams among the top 4 in one region. But, to uphold their rule, they procedurally bump down UCLA. So, if they seeds hold UCLA flies all the way CT, and Miami flies all they way to CA.

One thing puzzles me. We will probably play TEX A&M in 2nd game. SC may play Ariz. State in 2nd game. That hardly seems like an easier path for us. Of course I think we'll be fine but A&M to me is more competent and physically imposing than AZ State. AZ started the season well and ended it like a train wreck. SC beats them by 30+.

Texas A&M would be a potential 3rd round opponent, not second.

People will say Baylor will help fill seats in OKC. The Big 12 tourney was in OKC last week.... and they had less attendance than the ACC.... perhaps the Baylor fans were saving their money for the Regionals.

Montana St. could give UDub some problems in the first half

You're basing that on what? Montana St. doesn't have a single notable win on their schedule. Most of their wins are fairly close against Big Sky, WCC and WAC teams. UW destroyed every team from any of those conferences they played against.

I am always amazed at the general level of weeping and gnashing of teeth that accompanies NCAA selection shows. I know there is a short Italian guy who lives in Storrs that won't spend a NY minute complaining about the bracket.

Right now, Geno and his assistants have begun the process of scouting and developing game plans for Albany, IO St & Syracuse. None of these teams will be within 20 pts of The Huskies in Storrs.

As far as the Regionals and FF, for any team to beat UConn, they will have to play their absolute best game of the season, and they'll need UConn to help (foul trouble, cold shooting nite, etc.).

One last point. Other teams are going to get upset. UConn only needs to be concerned about the game directly in front of them.

Quick thoughts on the brackets....

Bridgeport: Maryland could be the toughest opponent UCONN has faced pre Final Four since LSU in 2007. Connecticut will still be a heavy heavy favorite, but Jones is a player who is a lot to handle and Slocum is a capable scorer. Maryland is badly underseeded at 9 overall. I don't care about lack of quality of wins, or the fact that OSU lost in the semis which prevented Maryland from beating them in the finals. Eye test says there aren't 4 better teams in the nation than the Terps. UCONN rolls through this, potential for a tough game against Maryland. They'll crush Duke and UCLA/A&M.

Best match up to watch: Duke/Maryland in the Sweet 16. Lexie Brown vs. her old team. Maryland is a great scoring team, Duke plays good defense. Should be a good matchup.

Oklahoma City: Not sure why Landers was making a huge deal out of this regional....I think it is the weakest by far. You have:

Baylor-with an injured Alexis Jones they lost pretty handily to West Virginia. They're good but not great without her and could easily be upset (as we saw last weekend.) The weakest #1 seed IMO.

Tennessee-as a 5 seed they aren't that scary. They could EASILY lose to Dayton and be bounced round 1. They also could make a Final Four but they aren't that scary for any team they face in the Sweet 16 and beyond. Easily the least deserving #5 seed.

Louisville-another team that has been very up and down. Lots of fire power, but they don't play great basketball. An average 4 seed.

Washington-yes, Plum can score and Osahor is great. Besides that, I'm not all that impressed with their team. They're 1-4 against teams that are top 4 seeds. They also enter the tournament on a loss at home to Oregon. I could easily see them bounced in the 2nd round. Weakest 3 seed.

Mississippi State-rough finish to the season for a team that is dreadful offensively if Vivians isn't on. Another team that could lose in round 2 if Depaul gets hot. I think they are a weaker 2 seed.

I honestly could see any of the top 5 making the Final Four. I think Washington torches Mississippi State in the Sweet 16 if the play and they could upset Baylor if they can slow down the frontcourt of Baylor. I'll still pick Baylor here.

Best potential matchup: Tennessee/Baylor would be a great rematch. Tennessee is capable of playing much much better than they showed earlier in the season against Baylor, and Baylor isn't as good without a healthy Jones.

Lexington: This is a loaded regional. In your top 6 you have:
Notre Dame-the clear cut #2 team in the nation to finish the season IMO. Muffet is one of the very best coaches in the nation.
Stanford-arguably the strongest 2 seed playing good basketball to finish the year. Tara is one of the best coaches out there.
Texas-a dangerous, streaky #3 seed. Capable of beating really good teams (ex. Baylor/FSU) but also capable of playing below potential.
Kentucky-not that intimidating but they'll be playing at home.
Ohio State-very potent team offensively. Could post a huge threat to Notre Dame in the Sweet 16.
NC State-wins over Notre Dame, Duke, Florida State and Louisville. Very capable of upsetting Texas and Stanford.

I think Notre Dame wins this regional but Tara can work magic, and Texas poses trouble with their athleticism.

Best matchup: hard call here.....I would love to see the following matchups though:
Notre Dame vs. Ohio State
Texas vs. Stanford (rematch)
Notre Dame vs. Texas or Notre Dame vs. Stanford.
Notre Dame and Stanford have met in the regionals 2 years in a row and look to be on a collision course to make it 3 straight.

Stockton: A good, top heavy regional. South Carolina could easily be upset by Oregon State or Florida State. Oregon State plays great defense and rebounds well. If they can slow down SC's bigs, I think they'll pull off the upset. They'll have to beat Florida State though, who has a very talented roster despite a sluggish finish. They barely lost to South Carolina 2 years ago in the regional final. I think the winner of FSU or OSU wins the regional.

Best matchup: Florida State vs. Oregon State. Not necessarily the most exciting matchup, but 2 very good contrasting teams who can both make it to the Final Four.

Final Four: I'll keep this short and sweet. Notre Dame over Oregon State in a big blowout, UCONN in a tighter one over Baylor. UCONN beats ND for the title.

I think Notre Dame, Maryland and Baylor are the toughest matchups for Connecticut, so this may be a little bit hopeful for me. All 3 CAN potentially pull off an upset, but I just don't see it happening with how well the Huskies have played since December.

Well, I missed whatever Creme had to say. What were the discrepancies that he pointed out?

CT - UConn, Duke, Maryland, UCLA
KY - NDame, Stanford, Texas, Kentucky
OK - Baylor, Miss St, Washington, Louisville
CA - So Carolina, Ore St, Fla St, Miami

CA looks like the weakest region. OK and KY are both pretty strong.
Maybe, but I just don't have a feel for how good Oregon State is.

So with Washington in OK City, Stanford will be in Lexington, with a possible re-match with ND in the regional.

Can lightening strike twice?

Yup, and if they continue on that roll they're on, you better watch out for them too!

Duke is 16-0 at home.... including 6-0 at home vs ranked teams....... but..... Oregon scares me. Im not looking past them.

Did you see Rebeccas reaction to Landers analysis on how L'ville is a potential FF team. She was doing all she could not to jsut burst out laughing at such a ridiculous analysis.

Well, I missed whatever Creme had to say. What were the discrepancies that he pointed out?

maybe discrepancy wasnt the right word

Cal as 9, Ore as a 10
Drake as a 10, N Iowa as a 10
Miami as a 4, Syracuse as a 8

The problem with UCLA is there are already three other pac12 teams ahead of them spaced into the other three regions, so ... they get Bridgeport.
I think it is a pretty decent bracket - yeah I can complain about a couple of the bubble teams that really are questionable, and I think Albany is by far the best #16 seed and Syracuse is probably the best #8/9 seed - but ... if UConn has a problem with beating those two teams, we got a real problem winning out. Syracuse is just not the same team to date that they ended up being last year, and last year we beat them by thirty. And last year they just surprised a bunch of teams coming in with a 7 seed.

As far as the 2/3 seeds - it really doesn't matter if MD was a 2 or 3 seed, they were coming to Bridgeport, and so probably was Duke as a 2/3 seed. Look at the others:
Washington/MissState
Texas/Stanford
FSU/OSUw

None of those are a lot of fun - probably we match up best with Washington/MissState but those aren't exactly give-me teams. I didn't want Stanford so I am happy.

"We got our work cut out for us"- Geno on facebook live about the bracket.

Said Maryland, UCLA, and Syracuse all score a lot of points

Said we would have to beat 3 top 5 teams to win the title which has never happened.

Shame there were upsets last year because we need them to happen this year.

So I followed Massey, Kenpom and 538, and I have Texas Southern taking it all. Does that sound reasonable?

South Carolina has a far easier quarter than UConn.
Yes if you only focus on the teams in the respective regionals. But UConn has the huge advantage of playing in Bridgeport. SC has to go to the west coast. Statistically, it has been shown that being in a distant regional is a big disadvantage. Taking that into account, I prefer UConn's situation to South Carolina's. No question, though, SC faces an easier set of opponents.
