I agree with you. It’s a high-variance style of play. Hard to reach the level of consistency needed to reach a Final Four that way. And to Kim Caldwell’s credit, that’s now a near-term goal for Tennessee.
I’m a big fan of Caldwell and think her hire will age like wine for UT, but those highly specific styles of play seem to work better for schools like Marshall, FGCU, and West Virginia that don’t recruit at an elite level nationally. Tennessee pretty clearly can do that now. Will be interesting to see if she adapts her system.
