Scouting Villanova

They have nobody who can stop Sanogo, he should be able to get anything he wants inside
Dixon isn't bad. If he gets in foul trouble on the other hand... But he doesn't wildly challenge and plays pretty conservatively on defense. I do agree he's still the guy we have to attack. Sanogo has to go strong though. Ideally maybe we even post Whaley instead with Samuels on him.

We’ve been struggling to feed Adama, and i’m sure Wright has a gameplan for him. Nova has some long guys as well. Adama need to go into the chest rather than settle for the long prayer hook shots. Someone on the staff has to stress to him to get into his position, because he is strong enough to do so.

Yeah I mean, if the Adama from the last 2 games shows up it's not much of an advantage. He really just needs to get into position deep into the paint, it seems like 90% of his misses come when he's posted up 12 feet out instead of 5-6 feet

every broadcaster seems to make this point and I think it’s imperative - Adama needs to learn that if he gets the touch that far out and can’t immediately spin past his guy, it’s either got to be a kick right back out and a repost, or a savvy dribble or two to draw a double and leave a man open. It’s simply not effective from that far out.

This is how we win. A full strength Nova is next to impossible for us unless they have an abysmal shooting night and/or Sanogo drops a 30 piece. They just are too steady and too skilled for us. We feast on teams that panic... Nova never does.

I'm feeling surprisingly good about tomorrow. I said last week we were due for a clunker and a surprising road win. Well, we have the clunker. I think tomorrow might just be our day.

Yeah I'm sure Sanoga will will us to victory and no other nightmare matchups will matter.

Actually if we go to Sanogo we should be sure Isaiah isn’t roaming out on the perimeter. Have you seen his put backs the last 2-3 games? His size could hurt Nova on Sanogos misses. But also like the thought of posting him as well, size matters there. If we hammer the interior it could open better looks later for the “shooters”. Will be interesting to see the plan on O and D as well.

This is gonna be a gem.....noone blows us out...and we'll need that Auburn performance. Our D is peaking, and we can't possibly shoot this poor again.

Well a constant this season is that we don’t get blown out. Whether we win or lose expect a game that is terrible for all of our hearts

New combinations?: On the heels of Tuesday night’s loss to Creighton, in which the Bluejays dared some of UConn’s players to shoot from 3, Hurley is thinking of making some changes on Saturday.

“Get these guys in a little bit earlier, break up some of combinations of groups that have struggled shooting. Maybe get Andre (Jackson) in there more with a shooter on the wing next to him, as opposed to the group too many extended minutes where there’s maybe three guys on the court that the other team isn’t gonna play on the perimeter.”

Love to read this. Just wonder why it took this long. Why experiment with this case Nova?

Should’ve been obvious from the beginning of the season.

to be honest, i am worried about all of our guys getting posted up. our post defense has been suspect all year, and everyone on nova's team is capable of backing in, flapping their off arm, pump-faking, and drawing our guys up in the air.
Agree. This is a real weakness for us. Other than Whalley for down low help, most of our defense won't help, they just look or ignore what seems to be repeated from the other team. I have recurring bad memories of getting out posted.

This is somewhat distressing. Its February and our lineup is still uncertain.

By now there should be continuity, expectations and a good harmony among the starting 5. Mix and match is fine till January, but to be doing this now is not a good sign. He's running out of time to find the solution.

My hope is if he finds the successful combos that he stick to it, and allow it to develop even with mistakes.

I think the starting 5 is intact and won't change. He is talking about his rotations ("Get these guys in a little earlier")

Unfortunately I agree. I have hated our starting five all season for the exact reason that it is a terrible offensive combination of players and frequently creates a deficit out of which we have to climb. But it has been crystal clear that he accepts that downside because he believes it is the best defensive lineup.
