DeShields out of the game now with a leg/ankle injury.

On a side note - has anyone ever seen Mercedes Russell actually run ?

B. Graves is the most vertically-challenged Big I can recall. Don't think you could slide a dime under her sneakers when she elevates. ;)

OSU is a 'one trick pony'...as Mitchell goes, so goes OSU. Today she took 28% of their total shots and shot 22%!

Not really true. Alston usually scores a lot for them as well. She had 0 points in only 10 minutes of play. I believe she suffered an injury in the previous game.

She tried to go with what looked like a pretty seriously sprained wrist (it was sure wrapped up heavily.)
Tennessee's offense, my goodness. 22 or 23 seconds of dribbling followed by a contested midrange jumper. And this is the "improved" version of Tennessee.
Yes - this version actually gets shots up about 85% of the time versus the old 'bad' offense that was throwing the ball away about 35% of the time instead of shooting.

Mississippi's Vivian kid, taking the game over

the list of horribles for DD include a 39% `FG%, 24.4% 3pt-fg%, A/T below any top 25 team and a steal/turnover ratio that implies she gives away twice the possessions that she gains....so what if she has a nifty move here and there, she should be on the bench and make room for someone who can respect their teammates and add value to the team

Well, at least she has about a week and a half to get the wrist better.

Miss State's only chance is to keep a 5-10 pt lead because it looks like the SEC office sent a memo to the refs. Save TN. Graves just cut the hamstrings of the Miss player trying for the steal (no call) and DD just traveled, but was given FTs on a phantom foul.

Both clubs completely fatigued...barely able to get up and down. Good luck facing UConn ladies if you should be that unlucky!

Well, the LVs got to within 2 early in the 4th, but hit another scoring drought (or draught ;) because they were ice cold).

Miss State leads by 11 inside of 2 minutes.

Meanwhile Cal is taking it to UCLA in the 1st 19-7.

Cal is turning it out right now!

That point-a-minute juggernaut known as the Lady Vols just lost to Mississippi State, 58-48.

Their shooting: 28.1% on FGs; 25.0% on 3-pointers; 52.6% on FTs (they are supposed to be FREE).

6 assists on 18 baskets

And they are a tournament team? Really?

Final Tenn 48, Miss St 58
Actually, the final seemed to be Miss State 58, Diamond 48. Down the stretch I don't know if anyone but her touched the ball - that included bringing it up the court and forcing any old shot she decided on. Yes she has basketball skills. No she's not a good basketball player. Last I checked it wasn't a 1 on 1 game on the blacktop...

Vivians is a great player and seems like a great kid too.

I'd love to see the LadyVols in our bracket as an 8 or 9 seed, but sadly, they might not be good enough to get past their first opponent to face us.
I've got a feeling this could be the year. TN doesn't have the juice anymore with the committee...we're far enough removed from the Summitt era. The committee may at last decide not to protect them from us anymore...for the good of the game.

In defense of Diamond
She worked hard on D
And no one else seemed to want to take a shot...maybe Graves excepted...and she missed most of her attempts

It's interesting that everyone blames DD for TNs troubles. I saw one stretch where on 3-4 straight possessions one TN player dribbled the ball the whole time and then took a bad shot (yes there were 0 passes). None of those were DD. Meanwhile Russell was taken out of the game down the stretch, showing how effective she had been. Bottom line: TN has ample problems. To me, DD is the least of their concerns.
