Sat 12/8 Games

#10 NC St leads Gtown 46-40 early in 2nd half
#7 Maryland beat JMU 87-63
#13 Cal at St Marys (5-2) later

Toledo hanging with ND. Irish up 45-37 early in Q3.

Amazing how the ND board is dismayed at the prospect of their ambitions being thwarted by another frosh superstar at Ct.
They are following her efforts assiduously.

Toledo has gone cold in the second half, including missed layups. They were within 1 point late in 2Q but now down double digits. Still, just to have stayed close for as long as they did is surprising.

Toledo hanging around. 55-45 heading into 4th.

NC St creating a little more distance, up 56-44.

I imagine that Muffet is benching Ogumbowale for one game for disciplinary reasons and that her absence has hurt them, and that is why Toledo is hanging around.

Arike O started and played 37 of 40 minutes.

Hahahahahahahahahaha.

You were being sarcastic, right?

Virginia is trailing Radford 40-18 in the 3rd quarter.

I'm kinda puzzled at how much Virginia has struggled so far. Both Willoughby and Toussaint, their two best players I believe, are back this year. I understand they've got a couple injuries , but still...

I'll state the obvious - Perhaps Coach Thompson isn't a very good coach (at least not yet).

Well, Virginia has mounted a comeback late in 3Q and has cut the deficit to 10.

I also thought ND played much better D in the 2nd half. In the first half, ND's defense was spotty and even on some possessions when the defense was good, Toledo drained tough shots. Those tough shots stopped falling in the second half and so did some of the easy ones.

ND was again quite sloppy today, there were several relatively easy missed layups and 4-5 mystifying passes that were just airmailed into the stands. They ended up shooting 54% but also committed 16 turnovers.

ND has a long ways to go but playing competitive games like this is how you improve. I would have liked a 40-point romp but this team isn't there yet.

If any UVA WCBB fans are lurking..... if you want a discount on large brown paper bags.. let me know
Oh, are you done with yours?

Iowa is surviving a scare at home from IUPUI, up 8 now with 2:00 to play. The lead went back and forth for most of the game, and IUPUI led by as much as 5 early in 3Q.

West Virginia trounced Pitt in the "Backyard Brawl," 77-43. Tynice Martin, who's still feeling her way back after missing last year with a broken foot, showed her stuff with 26 points, including 6-8 from 3. Pitt was missing its best player, Aysia Bugg, who's out with an injury. Lance White really has himself quite a rebuilding job on his hands.

There were some good things and bad things. Shepard and Bri need to do better catching the ball at times. Sometimes I feel it is forced to much. Things I liked more passing seemed to be involved. I didn’t see any dirty play. No complaining to the refs by Marina or Arike. Arike helping opposing players up. One thing I was pleased with also was on the defensive end. They made it an effort to defend. Still need to communicate better and not let people get open. But I’d say the defense came to play today. There are times Marina has been open and they haven’t seen her. I hope they pick that up on film. Because there was times She was ready to launch up a wide open 3 if She would’ve gotten the ball.

The one time that I saw Arike helping an opposing player up, she had just barreled into her and knocked her down. The refs of course missed it but it should have been called a foul. It's easy to be sportsmanlike when you're up 15 in the last couple minutes of the game.
