Sanogo out

Certainly this should mean Whaley at the 5, with Johnson backing him up and Akok at the 4. Polley probably plays some 4, but he's one of the backups for Martin at the 3. All hands on deck.

This team has been snakebit by injuries for several years now, but in some cases, we rose above it and gave guys like Whaley an opportunity they needed.

Sanogo has exceeded expectations and this one will be really tough to adjust to. Wish him a quick recovery.

Some silver linings:
  • About 80% of St. Bonaventure's offense comes from the guards and the wings. Osun Osunniyi is an elite interior defensive presence, so w/ Sanogo out, UConn's offense will not be inside-out, thus neutralizing Sanogo's effectiveness potentially being hindered by an elite interior defender.
  • Basically the same point for West Virginia. 2/3rds of West Virginia's offense comes from the 1-3 spots, so outside of Jalen Bridges, West Virginia's bigs are mostly defensive specialists.

Good grief between Martin and now this - about as bad as it gets injury-wise

What is our schedule up until the new year?
Grambling tomorrow, Bonnies neutral, at WVU, Providence home, at Marquette, at Xavier, Butler home January 1.

this will benefit us in the long run, time to start laying the foundation for 2023.

People have to stop saying every injury that happens is a long term benefit. No they aren’t. Winning is the biggest long term benefit and this does nothing but hurt our chances to win.

Cue the "time to gear up for next year" posts. This has been happening since 2015. When will we get our chance to say "lets do it this year"?

2015.

Hurley had plenty to say about Akok figuring out ways to contribute and his minutes not being “dead minutes” like in the Bahamas (30 minutes with 0 points). Anyway, injuries aside, this is what we’ve all been asking for in regards to getting the pups some time
