I will say this, I was never obviously close to their level so I can’t say for sure. But back when I was a pretty good player and played in many two and four ball competitions at a decent level I can say it depends on the putter style. I was a pretty good putter (not like these guys) but honestly if you “try” to make sure you “get it there” you sometimes lose your natural stroke. You can miss by being too aggressive and not putting in your natural stroke. Not saying it was ok to be short but I bet he thought he hit it hard enough and it was dead snots with one more roll. He made 8 birdies tough to be hard on the kid but needed one of the last 2 looks to keep the crowd roaring no doubt.

I’ll add this since scramble season is picking up down south with the weather cooling down.
When I know a putt is make or else and I hit it harder I normally do,I tend to pull putts across my target line. So, I’ve learned to make sure I practice smashing putts before the round. Does it always work? Nah. I suck too much for that but I know I have to practice differently than playing my own ball all round for a stroke play game

I will also add, being there in person, that green is NOT flat. I'm sure that putt was much more slippery than you thought watching it on TV. I mean, just think....hypothetically, that green could have had a putt to decide the entire Cup. You think there was an easy putt anywhere on it that day with that placement?

At least the Americans made it entertaining so we could finally enjoy some golf throughout the day on Sunday.

You can’t dig a hole that deep and expect to be perfect on the final day but we sure came close.
If Scottie, Bryson and Xander do ANYTHING the first 2 days and don't let Rory, Fleetwood and Rahm basically sweep every point, Sunday is a much different day.

You are fools if you don’t think the Europeans sand bagged Sunday to make the TV better and keep interest in this competition high.

If they really were trying the final score was at least 18-10. But, they are smart and seeing long-term value in making the Americans look like a viable contender.

Like any good sandbagger in golf or gambling, you keep your marks just close enough to keep them interested in competing.

You really think Tommy didn't want to go into Ryder Cup history as the first guy to go 5-0?

I imagine that at some point all three of those guys had thoughts sneaking into their heads like, "Ah hell, we only need two points, I just want a damn beer."

I give a ton of credit to Scottie. Most of that match looked like the 15th round of a heavyweight fight with both fighters barely standing up, but with enough pride to throw an occasional haymaker.

Some theory. Was there, very cool event. The crowd manager on the 18th was classic. Check out this do. We were next to some hammered dudes from South Carolina.

Rory doing his usual "Ugly Americans" routine today. No wonder he has few fans outside of the UK. And, he still cant beat Scottie 1-on-1 in big stages when it counts.

Maybe Rory has few fans where you are but in Mass and FL he's pretty popular
Rory is one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour. Unfortunately, patriotic nowadays means that some people will act like jerks to support our country. At my hole yesterday, some idiot yelled the P word when Rory was hitting his drive. I’d attach the video to this post if I was technology-savvy, although it may be inappropriate for younger viewers.

Also, I guarantee there was a lot of pressure from the Rolex folks to at least make sure things weren't over until they got to the "One hour of interrupted coverage sponsored by Rolex" portion of the broadcast.

He's not wrong. The gallery was an abject embarrassment.

I've read so many articles and heard so many talking heads in the past few days pretending this is a new thing that happened at Bethpage and that this is a new "Ugly Americans" problem. It's pure nonsense. This has been going on in golf for a long time. It happens in Europe and it happens in America, I saw it first hand at Medinah in 2012...

The people that do this are predominantly white men. No blacks, not women. They are redneck white men ( you don’t have to be from the south or even an American) and in many cases they are lit up. Look at who does the mass shootings in our country. ( not saying those yo-yo’s are murderers for sure)
Most all of them are educationally challenged.
There are a lot of people who now actually celebrate this confrontational kind of insult behavior. Maybe they think they have permission to act this way.
There’s no excuse for it no matter where it happens but I don’t believe that what I said can be disputed.

Well, I was there Friday and saw/heard it first hand.

The white men comment is accurate because the entire crowd (good and bad) was about 90% white men. At least.

The part about rednecks and "educationally challenged" couldn't be more far from the truth. The $750.00 per ticket price alone dispells that, aside from golf being a traditionally white collar, upper/middle-upper class sport.

I'll also say this. They estimated 200,000 fans or more each day. They say one bad apple spoils the bushel and the people that were inappropriate were in the less than 1% of that crowd. The times I did hear someone say something inappropriate or when they should have been silent, the people around them immediately chastised them telling them to act classier.

This is nothing more than a very, very small number of people that couldn't handle their booze in the sun and the press running with it.

I didn’t say that none of them are educated but I welcome you to challenge any of the points I made as false.
You keep purposely delving into politics which isn't allowed here. I could pick your post apart but I won't here. If you ever want to DM me, I'm open to discuss things.

I've kept everything to golf and sports and I've shown over and over with examples that the narrative that's currently being pushed is false.
