OT: Ryder Cup

Let’s also remind ourselves that USA fans have become repulsive. Especially on Long Island. Good gravy they also root for the Jets. Glad Rory won today.
You ever been to a British soccer match? American crowds/sports culture is incredibly tame compared to the rest of the world.

I do like Rory and have no problem with him flipping the crowd off and telling them to shut ^^^ up.

Reading many reports of many Americans screaming obscenities at European players, Rory finally having to respond back. We are getting our asses kicked so I guess the thing to do is have no class.

Listen, I don’t want to paint with too broad a brush but “ugly American” is real in this case and this type of behavior seems to be tolerated and even condoned in our country.

The atmosphere at events in the sport of golf seemed to change once Tiger came along and things like the Waste Management Open and more head to head/America vs. affairs being added. I was at Medinah for one day in 2012 and fans were screaming their heads off at the European golfers. The sports I've been to by far the most live are MLB and college basketball and in my experience it's significantly tamer than it used to be when I was younger. Some of the stuff that was said and done back then wouldn't be allowed today.

Stop with the excuses.

Stop with the excuses.
It's not excuses, it's pointing out that this is nothing new with sports fans and it used to be worse.

I was at several Yankee games where fans threw batteries and other objects at the opponents. I was in the Yankee bleachers right by Brady Anderson when for the entire game many in the bleachers screamed at him calling him every nasty homophobic name they could possibly come up with and guys were even pretend acting out homophobic scenes. I remember when a fan hit Wally Joyner in the arm with an open switchblade at Yankee Stadium. I remember when the father and son ran on the field at the White Sox game and violently attacked Tom Gamboa. I remember when another fan tried it shortly after. I don't even remember seeing a single fight in recent years at games and the abusive, homophobic, racist etc. language I heard years ago is no longer tolerated.

It’s not just sports events anymore. We have poor examples being “taught” in name calling, insulting people and denigrating them. Surely you must have noticed.

In my experience things were far more out of control when I was younger. There was far more name-calling going after gender, race, sexuality and there was far more violence and murder. The numbers back up my recollection but we're talking about sports here and things are also tamer now at sporting events in my experience.
