OT: Ryder Cup

Scottie wants bragging rights on Rory. The only thing left of interest in this disaster of a Ryder Cup.
I don't think Rory is even in his head. He just wants to finally win a damned point.

And he did. That weight is lifted. Good for him. I imagine they're both completely spent.

So true
I feel like we caught up to the rest of the world if we are talking beyond golf. As I mentioned earlier, my cousin has been telling me stuff that he’s seen/heard at European soccer games and sending snapchats for way more than 10 years. Things I can’t even post here. Absolutely disgusting and horrible - and it wasn’t isolated to a game or two. It was and is widespread over there

I hope it ends in a tie so we get endless controversy about the stupid “defending champ retains cup” rule as well as Hovland withdrawing.
In boxing, if you've got a defending champ and it ends up in a draw, the belt doesn't disappear into limbo. The champ keeps it.

I imagine the Hovland thing will be more controversial if it ends in a tie.

Combine betting, alcohol and the death of American decency 10 years ago and even golf is corrupted now. We look even more ridiculous to the rest of the world. They're all laughing at us, and its not just golf.
Yep, Americans were so well behaved in golf and all sports in the past...

Eh. This ain’t boxing. Overtime is not a part of boxing. It is in every other golf tournament.

Presidents Cup has a playoff. Ryder Cup should have one too. If for anything it’d be riveting TV.

Is there any other sport that grants ANY points for withdrawing? What a joke!

It’s not a DRAW……..it’s a Withdraw.

Imagine Europe is up after Saturday 14-2. Imagine the uproar if Hovland decides to withdraw for a 1/2 point to clinch, without playing any matches on Sunday.

You don’t compete, you don’t score. What am I missing?

Hovland can’t go?, point to the USA sorry you can’t get half each that’s ridiculous and could have made a difference. They better look at that for the future.

Great run by the guys today actually made the EU begin to choke a bit out there you could see it. But once again when guys had a chance to step on their throats they didn’t hit enough darts and make enough putts. It was there for the taking crazy enough.

I think the more likely solution will be having an alternate named to each team. That makes a ton more sense than forfeiting a point.

Hell, if you're forfeiting full points, I'd fully expect fans to try and injure players.

Well we know the latter won’t happen but I like that idea of an alternate for each team. Only problem is a guy playing crappy will find a way to injure himself maybe or a teammate may assist.

But without an alternate no way you can give a half to each it’s just not right.

Great effort today by our boys. Should have played better Friday and Saturday. We always seem to dominate singles, but can't seem to win 2 or 4 ball.

At least the Americans made it entertaining so we could finally enjoy some golf throughout the day on Sunday.

You can’t dig a hole that deep and expect to be perfect on the final day but we sure came close.

Wasn't aware that Rahm and Hatton might've played their last Ryder Cup. While there was a lawsuit that the initial Euro LIV players lost, Rahm and Hatton joined later and appealed that decision. That appeal is still ongoing, thus they were allowed to play this year. If they lose the appeal, they'll be in the same boat as all the other Euros who are banned from the Euro Tour. That would be a big blow to the Euro Ryder Cup team, even with the next event to be played in Ireland.

A valiant effort today. Better than a yeoman's effort but not quite a historic effort.

Basically, you can see the Americans had the talent to be more competitive Friday and Saturday but haven't figured out how to play as winning pairs.
They need to fire the stats team. Sorry but Keegan and the vice captains are at fault. They would have been better off picking names out of a hat for the first 2 days to decide pairings. Putting morikowa and English out on sat morning confirmed they have no feel for this.

I'm glad it didn't end in a tie because everyone would be talking about Hovland's withdrawing from singles play.

Still, I hope they get out ahead of it so as unlikely as the scenario is, it can't happen in the future. Maybe each team can carry another captain's pick, but the guy doesn't play unless there is an injury. Don't be like other sports leagues and be reactive PGA, fix it before the unlikely scenario has future chances to play out.
