Guy presented a very fair view of the system. UConn just happens to be the latest to contribute to the parade of horribles. The NCAA needs to gets some backbone and start protecting student athletes and also leveling the playing field for the good of the game. This garbage starts with allowing big schools and conferences to bully their way and paint their own rules. Harbaugh is a classic scum bag who does not represent that spirit of college football. Purposely overcommitting on recruits and then dumping them. Satellite camps during spring vacation. Signing freshman high school kids to commits. Oregon kids getting run into the ground and hospitalized over winter break. An exclusive conference consortia for bowls. Media outlets paying off conferences not to expand their membership.

No, this is not what playing for higher education is about.

Meanwhile, the NCAA is auditing how many rolls of quarters kids get to do their wash.

The original spirit of college athletics was lost long ago. It was intended just for fitness. Once the Ivies got rolling, that changed things. Now they are aiming for super-humanism.

You just know when the new rule passes, Emmert will make sure it is referenced as the "UConn Rule" or "Edsall Rule".

God do I despise ESPN. Helps to break apart the Big East and continues to Sh__ down our throats years later every chance they get. And they're squatting on our turf and getting tax breaks while doing it.

Are you capable of posting a comment that does not end on an unrelated, barely coherent tangent?
Um, he was stating the spirit of college athletics is lost (in Harbaugh) and instead, athletes (Oregon?) are overworked in workouts these days. Do you have comprehension skills?

Vote to change is in April and seems likely to pass by all reports.

DI Football Oversight Committee modifies recruiting package

>>An early signing period in college football is one step closer to a vote. The Division I Football Oversight Committee on Tuesday recommended modifications to its comprehensive recruiting package proposal at the NCAA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, moving it closer to a final vote by the Division I Council. The Council could vote on it as early as April. In the latest package, the Football Oversight Committee maintained its support for a mid-December early signing date that would last for 72 hours and is also the first time junior college players can sign a National Letter of Intent.<<
Okay but just because the "NCAA" makes a new rule...who votes on it to accept it, doesn't the P5 have bylaws allowing themselves their own votes to avoid any new "NCAA' rules they don't like.

The P5/AFCA support this...

LOL. None of us know what the future will hold for Edsall 2.0. But if you think what we accomplished in Edsall 1.0 was "o.k." you were being idiotic in your expectations. Whether you like him or not.

This is the joke about UCONN football
And why it will always be a joke. That's the double standard you guys don't seem to understand. 8-5 at a meaningful program as a top line gets you canned, and when that's pointed out you guys say we'll we're not a major program, but yet you want to say Michigan, Alabama, Tennessee do the refine offers all the time.

You pick the narrative to suit your argument - well you are a lawyer so it fits.

Try to make a coherent point next time you post.

Do you care how little sense that makes? Because we don't have the history, resources or recruiting grounds that OHio State has, so realistic goals are different, that means we have to play by a stricter set of recruiting rules than they do? WTF? That makes no sense at all.

There's plenty we don't understand, but look at what we're dealing with.

There is a difference between being one of the top 10 programs and fitting into the top 30-50 range. We'd like to fit into the top 30-50 and every once in a while push the top 15. We did that in the last 4 years under Edsall. And don't think the top 10 programs are the only ones gaming the system, oversigning, hiding players at prep school, admitting kids that are academically out of their league, rescinding scholarships etc. It's not that anyone rationalizes what happened because of Michigan. They're just a convenient example.

Much more balanced discussion w/ Golic Jr and Luginbill. Luginbill did a fair job explaining the situation coaches face, how they are @ disadvantage not being able to discuss what happened. Need to find CFB Live link of broadcast.

Can anyone find the link/video for the 1:30p College Football Live broadcast today?

This story would be so much better if he lived in Fairfield county.

Well this is going to just kill the story for the media. The kid will actually land on his feet. Yesterday you would have thought this outcome impossible... if you listened to all the "experts".
Think anyone is going to write an article complementing RE2 for giving the kid enough notice so that he has time to land on his feet? Me neither.

So when a kid gets an offer rescinded between now and signing day, which I'm confident will happen, will the same talking heads going to redirect their anger toward them? I doubt it.

I hope he replaced this kid with a better prospect and reneges on a bunch more if it will help turn our program around. If this kid is an FCS level player, why was he offered in the first place? A ton more players bail on their verbal commitments than schools reneging on their offers. Where's the media outrage when that happens?

.-.
I don't disagree with taking that into effect, but if Edsall doesn't belive the young man is good enough and he's not, and then feels like he never got a chance, that doesn't necessarily foster goodwill with the coaches either.
Yeah, probably won't be seeing any more players going to UCONN from that school as long as their coach is there.

This kid would probably rather play for any FBS team than an Ivy League school.
