Trying to get this thread back on topic, last winter I reported that I heard that UConn and "the school that will not be named" were actively talking about a series that would be 1 at the Rent, 2 away, and 1 at Gillette with a 50/50 ticket split. Asked about this yesterday and was told it is still alive. This Gillette rumor may be part of that.

Hi John. Not saying you are right or wrong; only that there is not a peep anywhere within the BC community about such a series. If this were true - and it had gotten to the point where it was being discussed by Uconn players themselves, then it would seem that there would be some news on this from the BC side - and there hasn't been.

Unlike what many felt about his predecessor, B. Bates has been very attentive to the BC fanbase. The move to start such a series would not be occurring without him first throwing out trial ballons to judge the reaction of the BC fanbase.

I think eventually the two teams will play each other again. But, honestly, I tend to doubt this will occur in the next 10 years.
 
He should send out a trial balloon to see if he can find a BC fan base.

I haven't heard a peep about a series between the two schools.

Three things have happen before UCONN and BC play:

1) BC has to play a whole bunch more mediocre football that no one cares about.
2) Some with an ounce of business sence needs to be in a leadership position at BC.
3) With regards to that leadership......it will need to grow a set of balls.

Your point about UVA is obviously true, and I was in no way suggesting that Boston College is a bigger rival of Tech than UVA is, but in recent history, BC has played VT in close competitive games more than WVU and Tennessee. Outside of UVA, looking around the league, BC is for sure one of VT's better/more competitive games.

The reality is, Boston College would view a game with uconn the same way it would view a game with Maine or UMass. Its a regional game against what is basically a 1AA opponent. Uconn is not a legitimate threat for recruits that BC targets (the last 2 years are a perfect example but even during the Spaziani years Uconn failed to beat BC for recurits). Uconn very may well "pack" Gilette, because it would be their superbowl, much like Michigan was this year. Uconn is not an established FBS team. They backed into a BCS bowl where they were embarrased in the stands and on the field.

For those who question the attendance issues, like it matters, BC has also averaged more fans every year since 2007 with the exception of 2009.

Someone by the name of Upstate came up with this brilliant statement: "Because BC has never made a BCS or big time bowl. During their time in the BE, they never finished higher than 3rd. UConn had just upgraded to D1 when it lost to BC and wasn't even in the BE at the time. And your rivalry with Syracuse? UConn is 6-1 against Syracuse in the last 7 games, and it handles Pitt as well."

Out of curiosity, what does Uconns record with Syracuse have to do with them being a rival of BC ? Once again, upstater is a example of people who forget that football existed before the year 2000 and forget that BC has a MUCH GREATER history than uconn and were playing in major bowls and had a heisman trophy winner while uconn was still in diapers.

Here is the bottom line, and im sure ill be banned becuase all you people cant listen to facts and just spew idiotic nonsense. There is no rivalry. There is no history between the 2 schools. Uconn hasnt beaten Boston College. Uconn doesnt even realistically compete for the same recruits (sure they offer all of the kids who commit to BC, but arent a viable option). Keep thinking a rivalry exists because of a few miles of highway, it doesnt exist.

Everyone here loves the fact that uconn backed into a BCS game. But for that, its a nothing program. Churning out 7-8 wins in the watered down Big East means jack. The game with UMASS will be great for uconn. They are a much more comparable program and compete for the same recruits and general student population. It will be a great rivalry. BC has no reason to play uconn and never will.

But go ahead. Keep saying BC doesnt draw (even tho they consistently outdraw uconn). Keep saying that uconn is a comparable program (even tho everything points to the contrary). Whatever helps yall sleep at night. Enjoy all of Diaco's "TALL" recruits with the Fordham and Monmouth offers. Looks like hes building a real winner. Facts are facts

When is BC gonna finally have their Super Bowl and pack their stadium? Arch-rival VaTech drew 30k in a good year last year. Such a large sample size for "UConn hasn't beaten BC." We also haven't played since UConn's 4th season in FBS.

BC is constantly trying to be something that it is not, a big-time football school. The ACC, except for Florida State and maybe Clemson, has not been a very good football conference (or basketball either, for that matter). In fact its been pretty weak when compared to the other power conferences. No one outside of Newton, Mass. really cares about BC football, and Newton only cares because of parking issues on game days. Imagine the excitement in other parts of the country when a home game against BC is announced. They have no natural football rivals outside of Holy Cross. At the end of the day, BC is still BC. Meh.

Literally the only reason. They have been scared of us for decades now. They've seen our success in basketball and are terrified that we can do the same in football. And they are too short sighted and stuck up to realize that mutual success of both programs, plus a regular game, would benefit the profile of football in the whole region. So congrats BC on having a head start on us in football, you should be way better given you've been at it much longer but like Rutgers time hasn't been kind. When the playing field levels out, we will leave you in the dust just like basketball.

If MSG is UCONN South, Conte Forum is absolutely UCONN North.

There is no rivalry because BC wouldn't let one develop. Are you honestly that delusional to think that UCONN couldn't have beaten BC in the past 10 years?? C'mon man. Talk about spewing idiotic nonsense. I have several friends that went to BC who acknowledge, on their own, that they are relieved that BC went to the ACC so they didn't have to play against UCONN. All of them say that if UCONN ever got into the ACC, it would spell doom for BC. They point to basketball as the prime example of how UCONN over-shadowed BC and all of them think it would only take 5 years or so for football to do the same (personally, I don't think it would even take that long). Granted, they might just be saying nice things to me and other UCONN grads to humor us. But even if they were, this line of thinking is what led your own President Flipper to come out and publicly acknowledge. BC wants to be New England's team and doesn't want UCONN in the ACC so they can protect "their turf". If UCONN really was on the level of Maine or UMASS, why worry about turf? Better yet, if BC was so secure in their placement of the northeast hierarchy, why run away from UCONN like scared little birdies with their talons tucked between their feathers?

And if you really viewed UCONN as the equivalent to playing against Maine or UMASS, why lurk on our board and post this long diatribe that points to the contrary? How many posts have you made on the Maine board? The UMASS board? Do you feel the need to enlighten all fans from other New England schools with your flawed wisdom so we can all get a peaceful night's sleep?

Why not schedule a series to be settled on the field, instead of message boards and office debates? If UCONN is indeed at the level of Maine and UMASS (and BC has no objection to scheduling either of those two schools), why specifically dodge UCONN? Is BC really that fragile of a program that fear of 1 potential loss to "little ol' 1AA UCONN" will completely derail them? Boy, if you don't have the confidence that BC could beat UCONN, I can only imagine what the rest of the BC fiefdom feels!

All BC fans/alumni are the same. They are full of themselves even though they really don't have much of a team in any sport, overcharge for the education, never even sniffed at any National Championship. They are the crummy shack on the best street in town. Nothing to write home about.
 
Facts are facts and BCU never played in BCS Bowl. Until they do, UConn has proven it can achieve higher heights and is a better program.

Wow, I sense a lot of insecure anger from Munster.

I won’t waste much time; but, I will agree that Syracuse is more of a rival to BC that I had thought; but, most Syracuse football fans I know see Pitt, Miami, and Rutgers as more of a rival while also spewing hate towards UConn (UConn is 6 and 3 against ‘Cuse since the upgrade; but, the Fruit did get the last laugh by leaving UConn with Paul Pasqualoni) and dreaming of the good old days playing Penn State. As for Virginia Tech, to have a rivalry with someone requires more than some guy in the ACC office in Greensboro trying to figure out whom to pair BC with and picking V Tech off the dart board. The two schools have nothing in common – different regions, different schools (northeastern Catholic liberal arts versus southern state engineering), different students, etc. Plus, out of 21 games, BC has only won 7. That is not a rivalry. With respect to ND, BC says that ND is its biggest rival; but, a rivalry has to be mutual and it is not. ND fans see USC and Michigan as their top two football rivals in that order. Most have Navy as their 3rd rival, who they have played since 1927. BC football fans live off of Doug Flutie and 1993 game where BC beat #1 ND. That’s not a rivalry, that’s jealousy. ND fans used to call BC ‘Fredo’ after some punk little brother who betrayed everyone in the Godfather movie. Of course, ND does plenty of its own betraying.

As for the BCS title game, UConn played in one, BC did not. If BC was such a power, why didn’t they? Not like the Big E was a power before they left or the ACC has been since they joined. What’s BC excuse? UConn got to the Fiesta Bowl by winning the games they needed to win. BC, on the other hand, was 8-2 in 2004 and atop of the Big East. To go to the BCS game, all they had to do was beat a Syracuse team that was 5 and 5 at home. Final score, Syracuse 43, BC 17. Whoops.

As for recruiting, have you asked Adazzio if UConn is a competitor? Have you looked at who is recruiting who? In the ESPN BC recruiting page, 3 of BC’s first 10 recruits also had offers from UConn. Ditto for UConn’s top recruits. Yes, BC has a tremendous advantage over UConn being in the ACC right now. But, BC’s football facilities are at the bottom end of ACC football. An inflatable dome over the football field in the winter? There is little land for them to build an indoor facility and additional practice facilities not to mention the heel anyone has to go through in Boston and Newton to build anything. Plus, BC has limited land to build indoor facilities and/or practice fields and that is what college athletes for better or worse demand today. By the way, how does BC’s track team like practicing at Newton North High School?
