Tarris Harris, Sr’s son?Who's this Harris, Jr?
Good question, but the answer is "it depends". Here's why: we know that Hurley is loyal. He will give Stewart and to a lesser extent, Ross, all the chances in the world to be the main guys either starting (in Stewart's case) or off the bench (with Ross). If they both take a step up, those guys will be mainstays in the rotation, which means Furphy's minutes would be limited to back up PG and SG. This would obviously lessen his role with the team this year, to your point. In this scenario, this would be an amazing outcome for all of us, because if both Stewart and Ross take a step up, we are gonna be even nastier. HOWEVER, I do not expect that to happen. I hate to sound negative, and its not a skill set issue, but I don't see these guys suddenly becoming alphas. For that reason, I see Furphy spelling the starting SF in games where our offense sputters. And I see Stewart (assuming of course that Mullins earns the starting role) as a guy who comes in whenever the team needs defense. In this role, Furphy would play the Nahiem Alleyne role from a few years back. 10 to 12 minutes off the bench that brings scoring and settles things down. That's my take.you obviously feel very strongly about this which is cool. I like Furphy and he had a good tournament but trying to project anything based off of one performance against decent competition in an international tournament is difficult.
Curious - as I said in my post I think Furphy rounds out the rotation and really comes into his own in a few years. What do you think realistic expectations are for him this year?
my bad!!!@CL82, see I'm not the only one who doesn't like it when we don't get our players' names right.![]()
Day one ready for what? I love the kid but he last year he didn’t show us anything that resembled starter material.I actually hope Mullins is better.
Just saying Stewart is day 1 ready and not an ordinary junior to overtake his starting spot preseason.
I know Hurley values loyalty but I’m a little confused what that has to do with the starting lineup
Hassan Diarra won a championship with us in 2023 and then Hurley started freshman Stephon Castle over him. When Castle got injured, Hurley started freshman Solo Ball over him. The next season after Diarra won BE 6MOY and won another championship, Hurley recruited over him in the portal
Hurley knew he had Stewart and Ross coming back as sophomores, and started freshman Liam McNeeley over them anyway. Hurley has them both back again (+Solo) and went and got Braylon anyway
Even back a few years, I’m sure part of the reason Akok transferred was because Hurley recruited freshman Karaban to take his minutes with sophomore Samson Johnson. Josh Carlton was a senior and lost most of his starting minutes to freshman Sanogo.
I don’t think Hurley has any issue starting freshmen over returners if they’re good enough. So the question should be: are Braylon and Furphy good enough? Braylon is a 5* so can’t blame anyone for assuming yes. Furphy is more of the wild card. Did have some really strong summer performances, but in a U19 global tournament
No problem. I appreciate the accountability. There's a poster on here that could learn a thing or two from you.my bad!!!
Interesting. I don’t really see any scenario where Furphy beats out two returning players and a 5 star recruit for the starting line up, but who knows.Good question, but the answer is "it depends". Not a bad take. I mean we have to see these guys in action against good teams for awhile to see how this will shake out. No amount of predicting or prognosticating now will do it. But that predicting and prognosticating goes both ways right? Agree that no one knows now but I think some predictions seem more likely than others - e.g. that it’s not very likely Furphy passes Stewart, Mullins and Ross to start at SF this year. Not a bad take. Maybe that might have had to do with his previous coach at Michigan. Our guys continue to coach him up. He can be a beast on the court and still have that contemplative side with his music. Young people looking for the truth in life. I'm hoping the best for him because he seems to have a lot of great attributes and this will be a great year "to get it all together"He apologized for this a long time ago, and explained he was just talking about basketball IQ.
Is what it is, he also talks up UConn constantly on his show, compliments our coaches/players/program, Reed is just a blind spot for him.
Calling him a bum for one bad take out of 10,000 is lame. You’ve never used harsher language than you intended to describe someone before?
No worries, it happens. Usually, it will earn you a funny retort. Some guys get weirdly preachy about it. To each their own, I guess.my bad!!!

I think it’s more beneficial to have Furphy not be the best player on his team but have something to prove because his new team is an upgrade at every position.I think there’s zero chance outside of foul trouble or injury that Reibe plays more minutes per game than Reed this year.
I think Stewart starts at the beginning of the year and if Mullins is as good as advertised then maybe he’s starting by the time BE play comes around, though I think it’s more likely he’s first off the bench with close to starter minutes the whole season (again barring injury).
Think Furphy is the last man in the rotation and really busts out next year after getting acclimated to D1 ball this season.
This board gets backup quarterback syndrome bad in the dog days of summer
