Reality is he may want to look elsewhere if indeed they continue their success in recruiting. I mean his decision is based on wanting more time at the 3 then he needs to go somewhere that has some time available and that's more than likely a mid-major for his skill set!!!

How hard is it just to wish the kid well and move on?
 
i think it was a combination of things that caused scoe to get this point, but in the end, i think it will become more and more clear that his reason for leaving was less about playing the 3 and more about a fresh start. i hate to see a kid like scoe transfer but i honestly cant say i blame him. i admit i was never at a practice or in the locker room, but from my vantage point, roscoe smith deserved more playing time all season. call it a bruised ego or hurt feelings, but i think a high % of kids in his situation would unfortunately do the same thing. and this notion that he owes the program is absurd. in my eyes, he is treating the program the same way the program treated him all season.
 
given all the body blows the program took the last few years, i can't blame any of the kids for leaving. i don't like it one bit, but i certainly have no ill will towards the kidsi who left, even if i privately hope they have less success than they had at UCONN...

but still, they all seem like good kids, one of whom has an unfortunate father, but still, we have them to thank in part for our NC 2 years ago...

UNLV is going to be stakcked this year. They'll be back close to the Tark days in a couple of years. We are the new UNLV in the NCAA's eyes so it seems ironic that UNLV has come full circle and is now by taking our players and beating us out for recruits..
 
For him its a new day, a new opportunity and a chance to start afresh. Face it UConn is in a turmoil right now and if you don't feel secure in your future (college and beyond) well you then look at options. After 2 full years, UConn apparently was not his best option. Its not like he had a lot of success here. Transferring was in his best interest, and since its his choice I respect that and wish him well.
 
Agree somewhat with those who say he was upset at not playing more or not playing the SF. HOWEVER I think if we are inthe Dance in 13 he would have stayed.

Really, just because he had one up-and-down year? Did he not start for the winning team in the national championship game a couple years ago? I'm pretty sure he has the ring to prove it.

And had graduated. Neither of those is true so he is just a run of the mill transfer and will have to sit out next year as others have indicated.

I liked your first sentence, but don't agree with the rest. I love Scoe, and wish him the best, but I see him as a four year guy, kind of like Kevin Freeman. They are warriors who are limited offensively and play great defense. I think he's doing what he thinks is best for him, like Calhoun and the coaching staff did what they thought was best for them this season.
 
I wish Roscoe well but if playing time and playing the 3 are his main concerns than going to UNLV is a mistake, that team is loaded and especially loaded at forward they have Mike Moser and another good kid whose name escapes me and they added Anthony Bennet and Khem Birch.
 
I wish him the best, though I hope he stays out of the casinos. Any guy who has as much trouble with the shot clock as he did could wind up in a heap of trouble if he ever tried counting cards.

I don't believe that any of the guys that you mentioned play the 3.

Yes and no. He certainly reached the pinnacle of team success, much of which was predicated on having the best player in college on his team. He did not have much personal success, or he likely wouldn't have left.

Don't get me wrong I like Roscoe and wish him well, but he did not produce as much as fans and (I'm sure) he would have liked.

UNLV is actually in need of a SF, assuming they don't go 3 guards. They have a pretty good recruiting class with Bennett and Reinhardt (dude can shoot) as well as bringing in Birch.

Roscoe does have to sit out a year from what I understand, irregardless of major, so Moser could be gone to the NBA.

I still don't see Roscoe getting many touches on that team, but a frontcourt of Birch/Bennett/Roscoe would be long and athletic. Assuming Birch and Bennett don't leave for the NBA. Of course if those two and Moser stay, I'm not sure Roscoe would even start.

I wish nothing but the best for Roscoe. I don't understand why he thinks this is his best option for getting to the NBA, but it is what it is
 
This still makes no sense to me. Bad decision Roscoe... You'll sit a year, be a 6th man, play the backup 4, have worse coaching, and never sniff another final 4. I wish you well, but ouch on that decision... Best of luck in the south korean league down the road
 
Moser is really a small forward he moved over beacuse of Chace Stanback last year and Anthony Bennet will be a small forward, it won't matter this year because Roscoe will have to sit out....brain fart. I really don't understand why Roscoe is leaving in the first place.
 
It still hurts that Roscoe left. I've said this in a previous post, but I still think the best decision for his future would have been to stick it out at UConn. He may technically be playing the four, but in a year where UConn doesn't have a true post player, the floor would have been spread out and Roscoe would have been able to attack the basket and do his thing. If there was ever a year where Roscoe was going to play 35 minutes per game and really have a chance to prove himself, this was the year. He would have been a top three returning player, at the very least, and one of the pillars of the team for the next two seasons.

I wish him all the best, it just sucks from a UConn fans perspective. His skill did not improve as much as we had hoped, but he's still an excellent defender, good rebounder, and great team player.

Moser is a PF in a wing's body, basically like Roscoe, he's not a SF. As for Bennett, he has range on his jumper and can put it on the floor but he's not a college SF either.
 
Maybe it's just me, but when a player is done with UConn, I'm done caring about them.
