RJ Cole joins Greek basketball team

Well there is. But they call it horiataki.
Horiatiki means village. So yes, that's a village salad.

But there are many other different kinds of salads. None of them are called Greek.

Probably the second most popular has romaine lettuce and dandelions. Which they call a Green salad. Close, but not quite.

Next you'll be telling me there's no French salad or Spanish salad.

Best of luck RJ
Light it up, make some bucks, spur some interest from the NBA and mybe you will be back home soon
Make hay while the sun shines!!!

Perhaps he's referring to the fact that, arguably, every salad in Greece is a Greek salad.
Let me put it this way: Greeks are so averse to lettuce in their salads that the only one that has lettuce in it is called a.... lettuce salad. It's basically lettuce, dill and scallions. That's it.

Most of the time when they order it, they don't even say lettuce salad. They say, "I'll have the lettuce."

I know that joke. But go to a restaurant in Athens. It's on the menu "Greek Salad." As are other salads.

In Greece there is no Greek salad.
I’m picturing this scene of an American tourist in a Greek restaurant.

Tourist: Waiter, I’d like to order a Greek salad.

Waiter: Sorry sir we do not have a Greek salad.

Tourist: Are you saying that a Greek restaurant in Greece does not make a Greek salad? Greek restaurants in the states all serve Greek salads. I came to Greece expecting Greek salads at your restaurants.

Waiter: I apologize sir. But this information is Greek to me!

I have seen "Greek Salad" on many menus in Greece, both in Athens and in the islands. And I have ordered and eaten them. Darn good too. There are many salads in Greece. Good grief.

Here's a restaurant in the Plaka featuring a "Greek Traditional Salad." Note they also serve a Caesar. There are many places that don't use the word "Traditional." But this took a couple of minutes to find. And at this point it's -peace out.

Though he was good enough to get a shot in the Summer league.

Best of luck to RJ, hopefully he gets a shot down the line.

Facepalm

That's the Village salad, the horiatiki. Not a Greek salad, which is what I thought we were talking about here!!!! Look at the ingredients, no lettuce.

Oh my lord.

It could be a 3 Stooges skit.

W: "All our salads are from Greece"

T: "Yes, but I mean the Greek one"

W: "You mean the one with Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Onions, Peppers and Feta cheese."

T: "That's the one."

W: "Be right back with your salad sir."
...
W: "Here you are."

T: "What's this?"

W: "Your village salad."

T: "I asked for a Greek salad."

W: "All our salads are from Greece."
