Rice post game thread

What about Mora? Who did you think was going to come to UConn and create a positive program?

He'll post a 3rd winning season and get a 3rd bowl appearance in 4 year. He's shown you can win here. You had to have someone like Mora to get back to some level of respectability. Not to mention he doesn't have the pick of the litter for assistants.

I give him a pass until I don't, which won't be this year.

He has thrown away about 7-9 games in his 4 years with bad coaching.

And these are not hard schedules he is dealing with.

He and these coaches SUCKED today. Absoutely embarassing loss.

Losing to Rice is going 100 steps backwards. Absolutely putrid.

But it should remind us what the team's true level is a midpack AAC team and high end CUSA.

BC isn't even in the Top 100.

I don't get why all of a sudden we started running our offense side to side instead of north and south. Outside zone to short side, screen to wide side.. TE drag 5 yds short of the sticks on 3rd down. Do we not have a running playbook that gets north and south between the tackles? Is it all outside zone runs? Rice used their big DLine size to just wash the crap down the gutter to the sideline. Where'd the tight ends in the seams go in the second half that were working in the first half?

Tackling, tackling, tackling... there's more than enough film from this year to show the players the consequences of diving arm tackles. It needs to get fixed. So many extra yards and touchdowns today because guys can't put prey on the ground and try and go high on them.

What makes you think they'd be able to run for 3 years based on how this game went?

How about this? Score another TD and 2 pt conversion IN DOUBLE OT and actually carry momentum OVER. God forbid we do that.
They averaged 4 yards a clip and just scored. I have no idea why they thought they were going to get a stop, they were getting gashed and rice could use all 4 downs to score if UConn scored. You go for the win there.

He's only had one winning season.

Mora is good at everything but making game decisions.

He gets guys that are good enough to win games. He is great with the media. Preparation seems solid. Players seem to like him. Has had enough donor support to keep guys.

But man he has a tough time making the hard decisions. It seems like he always chooses wrong. He's not getting fired or anything and probably shouldn't but 0-3 in OT and his road game record succinctly describe his flaws.

I’m with you; it’s was way too recent we were a bottom-feeder program, assuming we end the season 7-5 or better, I can’t be over him.

That said, there needs to be a change somewhere, I can’t get over how flimsy and unreliable the defense has been.

Mora was always the stepping stone to get this team out of the FBS basement. He succeeded in that but this team under Mora has hit their ceiling.

Now its time to try and find a young offensive coach to try and really build this program.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I am in no rush to can one of two successful coaches we've had in our FBS history

Our defense is atrocious. We have one good player in Parham and then the rest are useless. Second-half playcalling from Gordie was his worst since Syracuse's second half. There's no universe where we need to force feed Rosa running routes out of the backfield.
Dude he’s the next Edelman!!!! Every BY poster who has a weird obsession with him (wonder why hmm…) has been telling me this for years

We must lead the Ncaa in 3 yard completions on 3rd and 7. Play calling needs a serious overhaul.

This is why I don't get the Gordon Sammis as a genius talk. He's good, we've done things that haven't been seen in a while here, but compared to actual offensive geniuses he doesn't stack up yet.

We should NOT have gone for 2.

SCORE A TOUCHDOWN IN DOUBLE OT! That is much easier to do than scoring a 2 pt conversion.
Ok we score a TD and then have to go for 2, which you said is difficult anyway. You think for one second we were gonna stop rice with our defense? Not a shot in hell.

Yeah it’s also pretty ironic that our school which has produced championship basketball teams under 3 different coaches in 25 years is incapable of finding a football coach who can make us even remotely nationally competitive.

I appreciate what Mora’s done but there’s zero reason UNT, USF, Memphis, and Tulane should have more prominent and successful programs than us. It’s infuriating.

A reminder of everything UConn isn't in FBS football.. A terrible performance: offense, defense, special teams and coaching. A winnable game that they gave away. Disgraceful tackling attempts, still trying to run Edward's outside (a colossal failure all season) instead of between tackles, still not getting receivers to the first down line before turning for the ball, and no coach screaming at Fagnano to bring his passes down.

Mora is who he is. He will never take this program to the next level and a P4 invitation. 300 rushing yards allowed to this garbage Rice team? No balance on offense? Always comes up small in key game situations? It's the same pattern year after year.
