Rice post game thread

On the road you have to make plays when it counts. We didn’t. 3 times this year. Should be 8-0 from a talent perspective.

Frustrating.

That being said we aren’t really playing for anything but a bowl bid and we will earn that. The world doesn’t care if we are 10-2 or 8-4.

From a talent perspective?

They had 6 quarters to show they had superior talent. They didn't.

Thank you for a logical post, such ridiculous posts from this fan base..
if the goal is to go to overtime with Delaware and Rice, and squeeze into an invitation for the irrelevant.com bowl against Western Kentucky, sure - we made it.

But the goal is and always has been getting into the P4. That was always the assignment, let's not lower the bar for JM.

WE ARE GRATEFUL - but some of us feel it's time to move past this phase, which is phase 1. going to our 3rd bowl in 4 years doesn't matter if it was a 6-6 record against a WEEAAAAKKKK schedule, and we bowled against WKU or someone irrelevant.

we're not fooling anyone in the P4 with those optics.
We fans who feel this way, are starting to feel a "plateau" and it's fair to question if this is the end of the Jim Mora rocketship.

We're not asking for his head on a platter, but a sober assessment of whether THIS is how good we want to be, and stay there and be happy... or are we still shooting for a seat at the big boys' table. UConn will need to decide this for themselves, but if they're happy, then i personally will move on.

Will we?

After last week the general consensus on here was that Mora was likely to be poached by a P4 and we would need to open up the check book to have any hope of retaining the coordinators. Now this week you want to fire them all? People get ahold of yourselves. Tough loss but not a reason to jettison the season.

This is the way of most fan boards, teetering between “don’t poach our coach” and “burn it all down”.

Well that's why we lost classic boneyard jinx, well tonight Mora needs to be bashed for losing to Rice.

There were like three people who were worried.

Don’t worry nobody wants to poach a 63 year old dude who blows 4th Quarter leads and loses in overtime.

Someone really commented on the fact that Brock “only” makes 250k like literally yesterday

I think everyone knew that defense would not win this game, given their running game. However, I think it is reasonable to have expected the offense to beat them. I don't know if there are any statisticians here, but it seems to me that Sammis' first down calls usually either result in a touchdown (rarely) or more commonly a loss or gain of maybe 2 yards. This puts the offense behind as he frequently, it seems to me at least, wastes the first down and UConn ends up with second and long. Then next comes 3rd and 5, and a high pressure situation which usually fails. Can someone here tell me what the percentage of first down yardage of more that 2 yards are for the UConn offense? Also, not to pick on anyone, but WTF is with Rosa and forget about the defensive LB's.

2 steps forward, 2 steps back. we suck. so much for rankings and bowl games. we were so over-rated and it just shows how bad bcu is

Also keeping them out of the enemy zone was even harder.

Even more reason to go for two…

Fine. They should have gone for 2. But because it would require making a winning football play under pressure I doubt we make it and lose anyways.

7 year QB, Bell, Juice, Thomas and our coaching staff just couldn't find a way for 30 minutes in the 2nd half to move the ball and get points to maintain a lead. It was just too hard for them to figure it out. Rice must be a juggernaut of a defense.

You play to win. Not procrastinate to win.

Correct. Go for 2. and chances are we muff it up and lose. instead we had to watch them settle for a field goal knowing full well Rice was going to waltz into the endzone for a TD. The odds of getting 2 there were actually better than trying to score again and then going for 2. what a miserable ending

i had no doubt at ALL they'd score the TD after we kicked the FG. I called it in the chat - "this will end JUST like delaware."
We have every right to start fundamentally questioning this coaching staff.

We were relegated to throwing short passes in the game as Rice watched the BC game and decided to pressure Joe F. Joe was just off today on some longer throws and the OT one really hurt. But our short throw were easily covered and nothing was changed on our side. Sammis never accepted that Rice had LBs and corners that would not let us run our stretch running game. I wish we had those players on our D. How some of our defensive secondary players show up in the film room and watch themselves miss tackles over and over again is beyond me. Shameful. In the chat I mentioned how we were always in 2nd and ten. Sammis needs to get this figured out. It is a constant for us. This game was very winnable but we could not get our stuff together. Our last home game vs Air Force will be facing an option offense that is better than Rice's. I hope our offense shows up that day.

I remember earlier in the game, I wanna say 1st quarter, and the commentators were quoting one of the coaches (I think Mora) who essentially said “we’re confident in converting anything in a short yardage situation”… but apparently not in OT?
