Just got home from the rent. it was ugly for sure, but I kept thinking during It, this is a game we would have been two scores down in before Mora arrived. Evers consistently threw behind receivers. I was also shocked at how conservative the rice offense remained the longer they stayed with UConn-Kept punting the ball away at midfield...a win is a win.

I would go as far to say anyone that looks at the schedule and confidently thinks "ooh that's easy, UConn can will win that" has not watched UConn for the last 13 seasons. Just like some might think UConn has winnable games, other teams are looking at their schedules and see UConn think "ooh we can win that one."
This.

We are in the abyss - we need to somehow try to get out of an impossible situation. Wins achieve that. No one is going to care we barely beat a horrific team. Stack the wins. 7-5 or 8-4 would be awesome for recruiting both at high school and the portal.

Win and recruiting goes up a tick. Do it consistently and maybe we get in a g5 conference and can compete for a g5 invite. We are a long ways away but there is a small glimmer of hope.

The "D" was great - But this game - not going to look back and say - it was a turning point! We didn't make any strides - Showed that we regressed a bit! If this was game 1 - how many of us are thinking this is going to be a long season! So we won, we got a lot of players back. Our QB play was awful. That reminds me of years past. the Temple game we had excitement from our "D" in winning that one. The Buffalo game showcased an offense. The WF game showed we get no respect. This game says UConn has a very long way to go! I trust in Mora and will continue to do so. He knows what he is doing and I wonder with the logistics of NIL and revenue sharing taking place off the field... How much that impacts what talent is showed this late in the season on the field. I might get killed for this comment... But this is a new era and we should think at minimum there must be some kind of impact!

an ugly game but a win. I hear some complaining about Evers but with five drops and the pressure he did better in the second half.

The defense is very good and made the plays when needed. They kept UConn in the game in the first half.

A win is a win no matter how you look at it.

I wanted the kickoff that was returned for a TD to be squibbed because of the last returned to the 45.

Turn 5 drops into catches and the numbers are still bad.

I'm just glad that Robinson juked someone out of their shoes, Skyler made a big catch while a defender was committing a felony assault, and our defense is the reincarnation of the '86 Bears...

Tough game to watch at times. Loved the sacks that Yates contributed to as they came at important times in the game. Sklyer Bell had a great one-handed catch as well. A win is a win so on to next week. Hard to feel real good about this victory but better than a loss.

I have to think he personally doesn't see a big difference between the two and because it's fagnanos last year, he's giving the ball to Evers in the hope he develops. It's clearly not working so I don't get it. If he was just inaccurate and not turnover prone it wouldn't be as bad but he can't hold onto the ball and routinely puts us in bad spots
At this point in the season without Evers having developed, you gotta go with the veteran guy that struck around and keeps working hard. Fagnano is likely to finish strong.

So why did we abandon the run and Robinson last few games?
Because without a passing game, defenses have smother the running game. Why then not improve the passing game? For starters that would require reinserting Fagnano as starter. With him they are a passing threat (short and deep). But Mora refuses to admit that will help his team. Seems like Evers is his boy, even though he hurts the offense.

It's a team that's a QB away from 7-1. That's the most frustrating part. Everything else is solid or better. We haven't had skill players like this in forever and we can't use it to our advantage
True. But we are watchable and one lousy non call from maybe being 6-2. Personally I think Fagnano would move the team better, but the brain trust clearly wants to give Evers experience. If they stick with him, people need to adjust expectations about our O and hope Evers can improve his plus consistency. Winning with D is okay too. Not exciting, but ok.

Start a different QB against WF or Duke and we win one of those and are already bowl eligible.

We won and need just one win for bowl eligibility (second in three years). Why all the negative takes on here? Did you all forgot that four years ago we were the joke of college football?
After that "W" I am thinking not of our schedule but next weeks game and my confidence is NOT there. I want to be surprised but where we thought we might have easier games - I fear we have no EASY games and may have some impossible games. I like to look at each game as it comes - with that I look to the next one. What in this Rice game gives you confidence in the Georgia State game? Why? We are only as good as our last game! I don't see the practices - I don't study the game film. I do trust our coaches. And I trust Coach Mora when he is NOT happy with our offense. What he said in the interview - he said because kicking your offense when they didn't play well - wont play well in the media either. They don't need tough love. They need to grow - "a lot". Specifically the QB!

Based on the way the team played earlier, it's obvious the expectations were raised. We can have negative takes on team play and maybe certain players while also being happy with the record.
I personally think there's a lot riding on this season. The Big XII may be watching and we need to put our best foot forward every game. I, and many others, believe Fagnano deserves a shot at being that foot.

I'm okay with a defensive win and a big play or two on offense. This D is a lot of fun to watch! Great to have Pryce Yates joining the fun and putting on the heat all day.

Not okay with an offense that has become frustratingly disjointed and very easy to scheme against. Partly the o-line being banged up, but mostly we don't have a competent passing game. Apparently commitments have been made and we're stuck with the results of bringing in a guy who is either not ready or not the answer at QB. And the coaches unwillingness to make a change is hurting the team. The Welliver era can't come soon enough.

I guess you weren’t watching our defense. Try it, you might like it.
I loved the D today. The offense, except for a couple plays, was as bad as the D was good. Our 1st half offense was putrid. At one point we were averaging .9 yards per carry. That's unwatchable. I also remember seeing NE was 3/12 at some point. You must admit the O was tough to watch.

Yeah I came up for the game from Atlanta and thst first half was brutal. I'm not sold on Evers as a starting QB. I really wish we saw Fagnano in but I guess we will live and die with Evers as QB. Rice might of beat us if they had their starting QB. Ugly win but I will take it.
We may have to live with Evers but some of those throws are high mortality for the receivers. Late and high or behind is a bad combination. And he can only lock in on one guy which makes it more frustrating.

If people go in thinking our O will suddenly be exciting, good luck. But 17 points in a half does count. The D is our strength. Obviously we all want more of a better O, but after years of dreck on the D side, I would rather win 3-0 than lose 40-35. Fans have to decide if they want Ws or a lot of scoring. We still might put up a bunch of points against some of our remaining opponents, but if we don’t and win anyway, big deal.

Bell was rightfully & visibly pissed on the post route. It was a surefire TD. He beat his man and there was no one close to him. It was an easy throw that HS QBs make every Friday night
Yup. Saw that and thought he must have been angry at being held early in his route and had not gotten a PI call. But the pass had not been anywhere close to him. And frustration with his QB was the other possibility.

Yup I understand why the original Phillanaire poster said he needed to take a shower after the game. They won that game with great D and some timely rushing attack in the 2nd half. They won that game despite Evers, not because of him.
