Is there talk of other planned meetings with other expansion candidates? If there are 10 other teams with meetings, then this news isn't all that noteworthy. If not, then this is yuge.

There are other candidates presenting - the news is the date, not the invitation per se.

Here's to a fruitful meeting with those bastards.

I believe @Dooley is the one who always makes this point, but year to year success in athletics is cyclical.

Where Houston is riding the top of the wave now, UCF was two years ago and even we were there a only a half decade prior as well.

Making long term decisions on institutions based off of 15 football games shows no foresight.

Where UCF is now is where Houston would likely end up once Hermann leaves. A big school, great recruiting ground, terrible basketball, subpar academics and ranking 4th or 5th most popular in their own market.

UConn football hasn't lit the world on fire recently, but the committent to the program by the state and the University hasn't wavered.

When other schools talk about upgrading football and basketball facilities, ours are already in the ground.

We don't have plans to bring our budget and facilities to a P5 level, we are already there.

Yes, we've been passed on by the ACC multiple times but we were always a close runner up, all while Houston (and Memphis and UCF) were begging to get out of CUSA.

The Big 12 has shown it hasn't done anything that indicates they are running a rational process but I just hope when push comes to shove and the final decision needs to be made, they look at our numbers, facilities, legendary hoops program and the fact we are the number game in our town and that will outweigh the last football season.

Maybe you can make our pitch?

That's the team. Anyone more is clutter.
.

Disagree. Geno and Ray add some star power and Calhoun is just a winner although you keep him on a tight leash. All three can add some color about playing in NYC and on the big stage.

How about interspersing (is that a word?) the View from above video with 4 or 5 of the HUGEST moments in UConn sports - including the ND win with our fans chanting UCONN as Edsall is speaking - the final seconds of UConn's latest women's championship and a final seconds of our 4 mens championships...

TCF?

Htfd Courant: UConn To Make Presentation To Big 12 Thursday; Power 5 Future At Stake

>>UConn will be banking on its strong academic profile and its demonstrated history of success in athletics, particularly in basketball. Also, the opportunity for the Big 12 to take advantage of UConn's strong fan base in the New York-to-Boston corridor may be considered to the Huskies advantage.

UConn president Susan Herbst and athletic director Dave Benedict are expected to be among those from the university present at the meeting.<<

Jesus this Courant article is a joke:

UConn To Make Presentation To Big 12 Thursday; Power 5 Future At Stake

The athletic future of the university, currently a member of the American Athletic Conference, may be at stake. The Big 12 has reportedly reached out to as many as 18 to 20 schools and is expected either add two to its roster or table expansion this season.
They can't even be bothered to report on the fact that half of those schools are out of the running?

I'm just happy they didn't downplay our candidacy, which they like to do.

It's like they took a look at the Boneyard 2 weeks ago and used that info as current.

Even though I know this is true, it is scary to see that in print. We all know the current situation is not sustainable long term, the question then becomes how long can we continue to fund a P5 program with G5 income? What is the cut off point 5 years 6, 10? It's been 4 years since UL got picked ahead of us. Don't get on this boat and expansion takes another 4-5 years to happen again and you're almost at a full decade since you missed out on what was potentially your best fit. And to think we lost out to a school whose accreditation is at risk and they were providing recruits with hookers and strippers as they were trying to build up their P5 profile. Shameless, and worrisome all at once.

It's hard to tell. It's not 3 years and it's not 20 years, but it's somewhere in between.

If we miss out this time, there might not be a P5-ready UConn athletic program in ~2026 when they next hypothetical round of realignment could take place.

If the AAC adds such academically prominent schools as Rice, Army, Air Force and BYU, if they need a spot, it will evolve into a conference that has a reason for being. Maybe another conference can be the dumping ground for mediocre colleges with strong football programs.

I look forward to you explaining to The Boneyard why it's ok that we're playing Rice in hoops every February because of their strong academics.

Forget just basketball in Feb, how about explaining playing them in football in October. You thought Tulsa or Tulane was bad? Just wait if Rice is on the slate....

If we miss out and continue to have to play schools that were in the Sun Belt ten years ago it will piss me off tremendously. Mostly because it will allow schools like Syracuse, Boston College University and Rutgers, who have always thought they are better than us, to look at us and say "see, you were never our equal."
