wow no surprise really. i wonder how that affects Imani Stafford? what were her final 3 or 4 schools? i know USC was in there at the end - anyone else? i wonder who the leading candidates to replace her would be. they need someone with Texas connections, or at least a Texas attitude.

Why is it surprising? She did not do a very good job and probably realized she was a lame duck.

A few weeks ago Voepel speculated that Fortner might get consideration (she played there), but I find that laughable given her performance at Auburn.

Wendy Parker has tweeted that Gail G Texas Head Coach is resigning.

Surprising news if its accurate.
Just the other day there was a big story that she was going to be around next season! She does have Imanni coming in! If true that is wild! That would be 2 HUGE Schools going after Coaches! Increases the likelyhood of kids waiting to commit! I would think both schools would be going after the best they could get? Of course the 2nd school I am talking about is TENN I am making an assumption that Pat and TN have to make a BIG DECISION! I have no personal knowledge on her retiring. It is just my observations of her and what seems related that recruiting has been impacted.
If the tweet has any substance,I wonder how it will impact our recruiting efforts in the state? If true and even if it is just PAT! This potentially impacts alot of elete programs and obviousley recruiting!

Texas, Stanford and the Lady Vols were part of the Old Girls network that was or still is of the opinion that females should coach Women's Basketball teams. It will be interesting to see what coaching names become associated with this open position. Even with the down years Texas has had for awhile its still a great job with the resources available to be highly successful.

Texas is a Job that Chris Dailey might consider leaving UConn for.

CD has a personality that would work well with the Southwesterners and the drive to win to make the AD happy. There's no disputing she's a great recruiter with a wide network and a fine in-game coach.

I don't see her as being a good fit for the South.

Putting aside whether she'd like the culture and heat, I get the impression that you need to charm the HS coaches and parents in TX - doesn't seem her style.

Maybe Gail and Nell think they will get offered the TENN job during the off season.

CD did not consider leaving when the job opened up 5 years ago - why would she consider leaving now? Especially with the class that we have coming in next year - and the recruits that are in play for the following year(s). I just can't see her leaving now.....or ever for that matter.

Not surprised, ok, well, maybe a little. There was this whole thing about her staying through her contract. IIRC, that was just within the last few weeks.

Texas is a big job. Possibilities are endless and could keep more of the Texas talent in Texas or those kids will go to the East/West Coast schools.

Stafford!!! hmmmm......I always said that I thought she would end up at USC. Maybe now she will.

I thought Auburn was the best job on the market, but I think its now Texas and then Auburn.

Gail G has stated that her work with USA Basketball took its toll as she didn't have time off. Said she is tired and needs time away from the game. She'll probably end up as an ESPN analyst for a year or two.

Also said UT tried to talk her out of resigning

Gail's contacts were with AAU coaches, not high schools. In Texas, the high school coaches reign supreme, which is not necessarily the case in other areas where Gail had tremendous recruiting successs (e.g., Ohio, DC/MD/VA, NY/NJ).

Good to know.
Though I should clarify the "she" I was referring to was CD.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry, I thought you were referring to Goestenkors, though I think it is equally applicable to both.

I doubt much of that is true.

I watched the Texas-West Virginia game. Looking at Goestenkors' face, I got the impression that this year has "aged" her tremendously. She looked drained and exhausted.

OK, first of all- thank God. Texas would have had to fire her at the end of next year anyway.

Secondly, Stafford already signed her LOI, so she would need to be released from it (which Texas would presumably do). Obviously, keeping her excited about UT is the first recruiting job the new coach will have. But why go to USC? No evidence Cooper's going to do anything with the talent he's brought in. Plus USC is in a crappy part of LA.

Third, this is going to be a fascinating moment. Texas can pay anything it wants. This will impact coaching salaries at a lot of places. A bunch of schools better be ready to open their wallets...again.

Fourth, for the record, CD would do great in Texas. She's a Yankee, but she's a lady who wants her kids to behave like ladies. That would play extremely well in Texas. No, I don't think she's interested in that job. Just responding to the comments that she wouldn't do well in Texas. She would kill.

Fifth, Texas needs to drop the old girl club like a bad habit because the best up-and-coming coaches are largely men. Matt Bollant is the first call I make if I'm Chris Plonsky and I offer him any damn thing he wants. He's competing with a bunch corn-fed regional girls with no national recruiting profile. He can get better talent than that at Texas. And when he got results, he could get better talent still.
