This from Spartan Nation
"Sources inside the UCONN athletic department told Spartan Nation that, “Pat (Narduzzi) met with Warde Manuel (UCONN AD) on Monday in Atlanta. He was very impressive. After he (Narduzzi) won the Broyles award on Tuesday, Manuel again contacted and asked Narduzzi and Donna (his wife) to meet him at a law office in Atlanta. Subsequently Pat was offered a five year deal on Tuesday night and earlier this morning turned the job down.”

If this is true.....

My guess.......its all about perception. He just got the Broyles award.......wouldn't be surprised if D'Antonio (who said the coaching opportunity had to be a good fit), or other's in his ear saying "UConn!!!!!????? are you sure" (especially at the awards ceremony yesterday) .......he only thought about it overnight?

I suggested this could be a difficult job for any AD at Uconn to secure a "big name" coach.........more likely than not because of conference affiliation, plus very poor UConn team performance over last 3 years. Can't say I blame Narduzzi for second guessing the offer.

Lets see it he interviews for Texas and/or Alabama.......whatever the case may be.

It may be TJW afterall........and I have no ill will toward this man. To use former HCRE expression, TJW can possibly be a coach "under the radar" or a "diamond in the rough"

If this information in fact came from the UConn Athletic Department, it shows once again that we have yet to get control of the message there. We are just awful. Nobody should have said anything, least of all that this deal broke down over assistant salaries. Talk about Amateur Hour, our own side is under cutting us. If this came from Narduzzi we can always say we elected to go in a different direction. Now it looks like Warde swung and missed. Yet again, I might add.

Good grief it's not about getting your buddies paid it's about attracting people you feel you can win with.

This is starting to look like amature hour.

Actually you are incorrect Message Board Warrior. Narduzzi already knows who he would take with him for oc and dc. You can think what u want but the was an excuse was just a no thank you. We will k ow the answer when we see where he ultimately lands up

He's not a proven winner, I don't understand that sentiment. Hasn't won a conference championship at any level since 2004.
Thank God there is somebody else wondering what the draw is to this guy. O.K record, poor post season record, and all small schools. TJ has more HC BCS coaching experience just this year alone.

If the requirement is to have BCS HC experience, why did we ever fire PP? He has a ton of BCS HC experience. And he sucks.

Oh he does. He told you. You know they would take whatever they gave Narduzzi to pay peopke?

You are proposing he turned down the job because he can't pay his buddies. Even if that bit of nonsense were true - UConn still looks bad... Yet again.

Very good reason to utilize a search firm outside of Connecticut to keep all matters CONFIDENTIAL, positive or negative, so as not to embarrass the school
and hurt your chances with all those previously interviewed candidates, vett and screen. Would like to know how this leaked...maybe I don't.

Move on QUICKLY. PUT TOGETHER LEMBO AND TJ.

TJ has more COACHING experience, of any kind, at the BCS level than this guy. Lembo has spent a grand total of zero days of his life playing for or on the staff at a BCS school.

The post on Spartan Nation sounds like BS. Like someone from "inside the school" is going to discuss anything with members of the UCONN BY.....worthless post to protect a favorite son. MOVE ON...he missed a great opportunity with a great school.

Brian Kelly had no BCS experience before going to Cincinnati. Neither did Woody Hayes before he went to Ohio St.
Woody the wood pecker had a ton of experience though. He didnt make it very far.

If someone from UConn was going to leak info they would do it with a CT reporter. Why would they give info to someone in MI.'

If this is close to reality, it is the coaches agents releasing info to make sure everyone know his guy was the first choice & a hot candidate.

Neither did Chip Kelly before taking the Oregon gig.
Incorrect, he was the OC there for two seasons before being promoted to HC. Huge difference going from FCS to BCS coordinator as opposed to HC.

Not true. Assistant coach salaries are a significant budget item -- at most BCS schools the sum of all assistant coach salaries is equal to the head coach salary, so we're talking $3 million per year at many schools. At UConn there might be a $2 million budget for assistants; but maybe to make more room in the head coach salary they cut it. Regardless, the budget for assistants is probably well below the average BCS school, and this limits Narduzzi's ability to put together his staff.

If Narduzzi knows who he would bring in as assistants, he also knows how much they cost, and what budget he needs. If he couldn't get that budget, couldn't get his staff, he might reasonably turn the job down, even if his own salary was attractive. It's not just about money, but about being able to succeed. If you don't trust your staff, you don't trust your odds of success.
