Rellah Boothe to Texas

As a Texas fan, I am disappointed we didn't get Megan Walker, but I am happy we got Rellah Boothe.

As a guest on this forum, I always try to be respectful of others. But, I have to say, it's been very disappointing to read all the negative comments made towards 17-18 year olds just because they handle things differently than some of the adults on here believe they should.

For the past couple of months, so many posters on here ridiculed and insulted Megan Walker because she chose to wait until the signing period began to announce her school of choice. More insults when it was made known that she would be interviewed about her commitment on ESPNU. I guess there wouldn't have been an individual interview on ESPNU if she had announced her verbal commitment earlier in the process. Because of that, many UConn fans on here proclaimed she wasn't the right fit for UConn, and was selfish and wanted attention, and so on and so forth, and didn't want her at UConn. But, once she announced for UConn, the tune changed 180 degrees.

I watched Megan's interview on ESPNU, and you know what she said when asked about being the #1 ranked player in the country? "I just want to continue on my journey being #1 ." She could have easily said that the ranking didn't mean anything to her, but it obviously does. And, it's okay that she's proud and feels blessed to be ranked #1 (by a couple of the recruiting services), because it is an honor that only a few players get to enjoy. She obviously wanted that interview on ESPNU. But, when Rellah Boothe states that she feels she is being underestimated and is under-ranked, she is selfish and has an attitude? Give me a break. Maybe I missed it, but I don't believe anyone even knows the question(s) she was asked which prompted those answers. I don't see anything wrong with what she said (as a 17-18 year old); if that is something she can use as motivation, more power to her. Nothing wrong with these players wanting to be regarded as the best, and willing to work hard to prove they are the best.
Great consolation prize if you ask me.

U don't like it go back on the Texas board!! When u win 11 national titles then please feel free to come back to the boneyard!!! Thank u for your interest in uconn basketball....

Some of us were wondering why UConn didn't recruit Boothe. Is anyone still wondering?
UConn doesnt have a big enough bandaid for her right forearm?

45 ppg huh? I think the first reality check will come the first day of practice when she walks on the court and has to face all that talent in the gym. The second is when she gets blasted by Cox in Waco. The third will be when she starts huffing and puffing running up and down the court in the 2nd period while losing to The UConn in the Elite 8. The fourth will be when she never goes past the FF in her college career. I still like Aston, though it will be a never ending pleasure watching Boothe get schooled.

By the way watching Muffet and ND early reminds me again why those young ladies may win it all this year. Well coached, athletic sharpshooters. SC and Geno are going to have to step up. Anyone notice there is as much talent in WCBB as there has ever been? Phenomenal.

"I'm going to show you," Boothe said. "I'm going to average 45 points a game this season."
"Me being No. 3 is very false. I feel very disrespected. I'm not bragging or boasting. I just have confidence."

This is a girl no brain and no respect to other Texas players.
If she doesn't play 45 pts a game is she going to eat her sneakers?

I thought DD is too much. But compares to Boothe, DD is a lady.

I guess I took it as she was going to average 45ppg during her senior season of high school being "this season".

Which could be possible in the high school game. Not sure how her teammates at IMG feel about that but that's my take away.

thanks, I was going to inform others that I believe she's talking about in High School

and AAU doesnt see all that huge these days... atleast here in Connecticut

Southie, I understand your comments regarding posters and MW, however I would say a few had disparaging remarks. Not "many posters"

For the past couple of months, so many posters on here ridiculed and insulted Megan Walker because she chose to wait until the signing period began to announce her school of choice. More insults when it was made known that she would be interviewed about her commitment on ESPNU. But, once she announced for UConn, the tune changed 180 degrees.

Your comments about the occasionally harsh and inconsiderate posts about young recruits -- specifically about Megan Walker and the Boneyard -- were justified and expressed thoughtfully and respectfully. However, a casual reader of your critique could be misled by your repetitive use of modifiers like "many" and "more."

It is certainly true that many of the 1,500+ posts expressed impatience or anxiety, some were disrespectful, and a few were downright mean-spirited. The majority reflected a combination of eagerness and hope that she would become a UConn Husky. There was surely a large segment of regular Boneyarders like me who chose to not join the tedious discussion.

So, Longhorn Lover, castigate the nasties among us but please do so proportionally, OK?:)

Some of us were wondering why UConn didn't recruit Boothe. Is anyone still wondering?

BTW, ASGR has her rated #6. HG has her at #3.
Nope , I'm not wondering anymore.

Southie - my first post was specific to the issues you raised and at least some of the background that I think exists relative to Boothe.

As for the post itself and reactions - please stay and continue posting. We do want to get insider perspective on Texas as they seem to be finally putting it all back together under Aston. Must be exciting times for you after a spell in the desert.

Not sure why there was quite so much vitriol thrown at you but we do defend our own when we feel attacked and some of us have a hair trigger. But EastTexasTrash has stuck it out and rolled with the punches sometime directed at him while landing a few of his own. It never hurts a community to be brought up short by an outsiders views occasionally, either. Makes us all look inward for a moment.

I know it is during her high school season. And that is why I posted her past high school games was 22.7 ppg.

IMG high school last season avg, is 45 to 60 pts per game and overall record is 9-8.
Overall 9-8, District 0-1, National Rank 1135, State (FL) Rank 43

IMG Academy High School Girls Basketball Schedule

Texas, Baylor, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Louisville are really stockpiling for the next several seasons. Take a quick look at some of the projected players and their recruiting ranking on each program:

Texas:
Holmes (#2) 2016
Boothe (#3) 2017
Patterson (#4) 2017
Sutton (#6) 2016
Atkins (#3) 2014
Higgs (#7) 2015
White (#7) 2014 (eligible for 2015 class)
Prince (#9) 2018
7 top 10 kids that will be together in All of those players sans Prince will be together for a year in 2017-18, and all return besides Atkins for another year in 2018-19. The Holmes/Boothe/Patterson combo for 3 years will be outstanding. Talent wise, they are as good as anybody right now and should make a Final Four in the next couple of seasons.
Texas also has Jordan Horsey (#16) 2015

There's nothing wrong with Boothe sayin Texas will win a Ship or wanting to average 45 points.
She did not say she "wanted" to average 45 Points. She said that she would- I don't have to know her very well to tell her that is WRONG! She also guaranteed a Championship for Texas.

"I'm going to show you," Boothe said. "I'm going to average 45 points a game this season."

"It may take a year or two to win a national championship. But I guarantee you that before I graduate, I will win championships with an 'S' at the end."

She still didn't say anything wrong. My point being, people here are saying things about a 17/18 year old kid that none of us know personally. Just like there was a lot of crap talked about walker because people thought she wasn't going to Uconn.

You seem to be stuck on that "know personally" and the "17/18 year old" part.
I don't know you personally and I disagree with you. What Rellah said was wrong. I would have said the same thing if she was 15 or 22 and you were my best friend.

Stewie said she was trying for 4, but she had Geno.

Rellah is an outstanding player. Maybe she could use some humility.

We've seen many boasts before that didn't come to fruition. Time will tell.

In any case, Texas is loading up.

Stewie was also committing to a program with recent success re national championships. It makes her desire for 4 sound a bit more doable.

Re Boothe's guarantees - a very talented coach has said, more than one, to win championships you not only have to be good, you have to be lucky.

But Texas is certainly looking like they have a bright future. Should be interesting.

I have to say, I watched all of the player videos available on Prospect Nation and Boothe was by far the most impressive. Her attitude may not be what a coach wants at this point, but the talent level is tremendous.
No doubt she is a versatile 5 star talent. By her own admission her attitude might not be 2 stars.
"Before she worries about the next level, Boothe said she wants to work on her attitude and on having positive body language."

There is also a theme among the professional talent evaluators like Olsen-"inconsistent effort". Of her USA basketball one evaluator said: "At times Boothe was the best player in the gym, at other times she was invisible" . Texas has plenty of talent, inconsistent effort there and she will not play.

I watched several 2017 class players too.
Megan is more flexible and better overall ball handling than Boothe .. Boothe is more aggressive type.
If Boothe can speak less and be humble she will be a star someday.

Walking into a gym where there is so much talent can work a bunch of ways. The key will be not only an attitude adjustment but how she responds to adversity and negative criticism. I've seen players like her in both M and WBB sulk for years and respond by retreating into a shell and under performing. Then of course later transferring. On the flip I've seen big ego's humbled and later take up the challenge to become big time players.

Maybe she has a badassitude?

?...what bothered me a bit was that she was playing games pitting one school against another on social media....and her comments about marketing her "brand" was a bit premature as far as I'm concerned....

If one listened to her interviews at all, it was pretty clear that it was a difficult and close decision. She said as much. She wasn't "playing" anybody. Her tweets, etc. were not specific because she had little that was specific to offer for a long time. As to the "brand" remark, it's what young people have come to substitute for "public image." It's borrowed from reality TV (yuck) and has found its way into the youth vocabulary. It's no big deal. Her most telling comment was that she at first found it somewhat surprising that she was considered the top recruit, but once that set in, she wanted to work hard to be deserving of it. For someone her age, she handled everything quite well.

Pretty well. Not badly at all really. I was one of the few that stayed out of the fray. I was one of the few that said if she signs, fireworks and unicorns. If not, Geno will still win championships and she'll be just another talented young lady who have historically had their noses "pressed up against the window pane" ("I Who Have Nothing"). Since she seemed such a fine young lady I also said I'd root for her to have an AA career. I thought she'd go to Texas. I was almost right. Now that rooting will be first hand. Roses and Rainbow's.

Well, at least she recognizes that she needs to improve. An attitude can be changed with strong coaching and Aston seems to run a pretty tight ship. Kim Mulkey and Odyssey Sims were at times at odds and Kim had to put her on the bench, which seems to do wonders for a player's attitude.

I think the "attitude thing" answers any questions folks have had about why UConn wasn't after her or vice versa............if she spoke like that in Storrs there wouldn't be a bench long enough for her to sit on the end of...............

Sounds like Courtney Paris with her championship guarantee.

You noticed that to LOL. Now that Walker is a Husky funny how their views change. Good thing she didnt read posts on the Boneyard. Saw the same thing when N.D. beat them 3 times in one season. They hung their team out to dry. But when they beat N.D.in the tournament and won it all the same people celebrated like it never happened. Birds of fair weather flock together.
