I think there is some shooting ability that’s going to be unlocked. Just not sure if it’s next season or not. Have we ever had true stretch 5 at uconn? It’s seems like we have always been super old school with our centers playing style (which I’m fine with). But our offense often has the center catch at the top of the key. If not a shooting threat teams usually know he’s just there to reverse the ballThis is not particularly surprising. My gut sense is that this has as much to do with how he wants to play as how much he wants to play.
We'll see where he ends up, but it'll bum me out if we see him playmaking and shooting 3s somewhere next year.
I remember a couple of games where he picked up 2 or 3 fouls in a couple of minutes forcing Danny to put Reed back in. He definitely regressed during the BE games though - too physical for him?Problem was when we were putting him in games he was either fouling a lot of being scored on by stronger players. He just didn't deserve the minutes as the year went on.
Or Mullins. He won't be transferring, he'd be going to the NBAMcNeeley is not even close to the same category as Nowell, Abraham or Reibe.
There are plenty of good bigs in the portalHurley told him that he'd be recruiting a starting big over him. It sucks, but we can find a comparable back up big.
Not saying it's not going to work.Outside of Sanogo, AK, and Jackson our best players during this historical run have all been 1 and 2 year players- Clingan, Castle, Cam, Tristen, Tarris, Hawkins, Silas, McNeeley, Braylon.
You're of course right on brand with this.
It's definitely looking that way. Better off building continuity with portal transfers that have more than one year left.If I am Hurley, why even recruit more than 1 HS kid a year? Go all in on an elite 5 star like Castle/McNeeley/Mullins who you know will start freshman year.
These 4star guys who aren't good enough to start early on in the career end up leaving after 1 year because they are looking for an easier path. Waste of everyones time.
Hines from seton hall has 3 years of eligibility remaining jsNot saying it's not going to work.
The sensitivity here is OOC sometimes. The whole point is the concept of core continuity, multi year, is over. It was coming, surprised that fast.

Outside of OAD-types, Hurley has initially struggled a bit at figuring out what kind of high school prospect he was to recruit for the new offense. They had been working with what they had on hand during the championship runs and then the staff seemed to try to find the "Ideal" players for the new offense. Then Mahaney happened and he decided to go back to trying to recreate what brought the championships (bringing in Silas).Fwiw, never really thought he was a Hurley kind of big.
We are currently at "why not both?"prefer Hines by a million miles here. But would be fine with McKeever if that’s who we land.
Then it’s shame on the coaching staff who had a year every day to accurately evaluate his skill set, turns into that guy. This is not particularly surprising. My gut sense is that this has as much to do with how he wants to play as how much he wants to play.

Three finals in the past four years and you’d be letting this big dictate what he wants. Then it’s shame on the coaching staff who had a year every day to accurately evaluate his skill set, turns into that guy.
Well 3. Need the emergency guy, too.Need 2 bigs now. I haven’t watched either of these guys so I don’t know anything about their size and skill sets
How about both ?prefer Hines by a million miles here. But would be fine with McKeever if that’s who we land.
Makes me wonder what he was told at recruiting. And more importantly what they think they heard.Everyone assumed playing time, but the word I saw used was usage.
I thought at the time I saw that, he ( and/or his family) views himself a euro center out on the perimeter. He sees how we employ our 5's down in the low block and that's not him. You see his lack of rebounding, which is want to, as well. I think this is clearly the reason.
They wouldn’t both comeHow about both ?

Need to limit and be very precise with any HS recruiting. Bringing in two kids that are ready to contribute immediately, starter or bench, is the way to go.I know this is the world we live in now, but doesn't mean we have to like it. I know a lot of our success the last few years has been due to transfers, and very likeable ones, but having a least a few key players being around for.more than a year or two I still think is important to the culture and making the game fun to watch. I hope we don't fully lose that.
And I am sorry, I am not magnanimous about people transferring out of the program without really giving it a chance (Nowell, Abraham, now Reibe). To them, don't let the door hit you on your way out.
