Reibe appreciation thread

As a college player, no question Adama was more effective. As an NBA prospect, Tarris is a little better.
Tarris hasn't had nearly the chance Adama had here. He had to split his minutes straight up with Samson last season and the only time we saw him at full strength so far this season was the first two cupcakes and BYU before he got injured in the game.

He's certainly just as effective as Adama in the minutes he's played here so far he just hasn't played nearly enough minutes yet. Fingers crossed he's 100% healthy really soon, the rust is off and he doesn't have any more injuries this season.

I dont think we`ve seen the best of Tarris. At least i hope we havent. I think hes a guy who could dominate games offensively and defensively if he plays to his full potential. Hes very talented big man.

Adama was more, how to put this, buttoned up on both offense and defense by the time he left as a Junior. Reed is still really prone to making mistakes on both sides which he makes up for quite often with his better athleticism. Adama was also trusted to take threes.

As a senior Adama was unguardable. His footwork was so good that he could always find a way to the rim.

Tarris is a load and very hard to stop. He doesn't have Adama quickness. But... he is not yet a senior.

Funny I would say Adama is a little better than Tarris
Agreed. Sanogo is a little smaller than Reed but Sanogo's footwork was far superior. Reed is bigger and probably a little stronger but don't discount Sanogo's accomplishments. Without him I don't think UCONN wins National Championship number 5. If Reed can do the same then perhaps my opinion of him will change but until then we need to respect Sanogo a little bit more.

Back on topic, I have been a Reibe supporter all along. His size and athletic combination is a rare trait. He has GREAT footwork and he has a very nice shot. I think the sky is the limit for him. He has grown SO much in a very short amount of time. I hope he comes back for 2026-27 because I think he could use a little more seasoning even if he continues to develop at the rate he is developing but his game has improved dramatically from late October until now. His defense has grown so much and I think with that, he is becoming more comfortable to show us what he can do offensively.

With his obvious natural skill, BBIQ, coachability, and trajectory over just the past month, I really think Reibe will end up being considered one of the top 3 centers UConn, especially if he stays at least 3 yrs.

I'm with you. He's developing so quickly, that I doubt he's here longer than next year given the dilution of that draft.

kind of hope they keep his perimeter game under wraps until the tourney at least just to keep him away from the NBA lol. the rim protection improvement posted earlier is just monumental. Opponents rim fg% going from 58.2% to 41%, 1st in the country just speaks to the absolute beast potential reibe has on that end. It's the kind of edge that wins championships

Reibe is what I thought Travis Knight would be. And after decades of never really having a 7 footer who could shoot - I thought we would never have one of these guys.

Travis had a pretty good NBA career, and Reibe looks a lot better, at this stage.

Idk anything about the freshman prospects coming into college bball next year, but I think Reibe should be a clear lottery pick by the end of next year regardless (based on the Clingan model) so… maybe he could go down in history as the first #1 draft selection out of UConn?

It depends on which Adama we are talking about. The Dec 2022 Adama was not as good as the Dec 2025 Tarris. Adama really didn't start to turn it on until after that losing streak in Jan 2023. From beginning of season through the losing streak, Adama shot 58% from the field (including scrub games). After the losing streak, he shot 63%. He went from around 7 rpg to more than 8.

The March 2023 Adama is better than the December 2025 Tarris. It should be fun to see what the March 2026 Tarris looks like

Travis was a stretch 5 before that was en vogue. I bet he would have been even better in both college and the NBA this day and age

As Hurley says Big Eric gets multiple" Wall Ups" to go along with his other defensive stats. His offensive potential is exponential.
What a joy it is to watch him.

Him having to practice against Tarris has got to make going against other big/strong post players look fairly easy. Can't wait until Tarris is back to 100%, he looked closer but still not quite there.

Reibe is so good, we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg. He’s intent on fitting in, not sticking out. I think he’s gonna be so good, he won’t be able to help from sticking out.

Not the player comp, but trajectory of getting better deep into year 1 then major factor year 2, I can see the Clingan trajectory.

I could see him having a couple big moments this year then coming back VERY confident next year.

Love how Eric is developing literally in front of our eyes! Wondering if some of the credit is due to Tom Moore? As GM, not sure what the rules on whether he can coach the team, but hmmmm.

Very pleasantly surprised by how quickly he has improved. I didn't expect this level of play so early in his career. He's also stronger and more solidly built than I was led to believe. He has a chance to be a legitimate star/all American next year.
