Reibe appreciation thread

I don't think we can say that with any confidence. Hurley has publicly said before he unleashes Reibe from the perimeter he wants him to master the other skills of the trade(setting screens, establishing inside position, rebounding, defending the rim). Reibe is 2-5 from three this year. The skillet is there. Just no the attempts or freedom yet.
You must have missed the part where I said “yet”. And Hurley and other coaches agree based on how he’s being deployed and how other coaches are defending him. But it doesn’t matter because again, the suggestion of double bigs has nothing to do with the specific player. There’s just a faction that is obsessed with it.

Is it me, or even in their limited time does it seem like he and Mullins have developed a little chemistry playing together?

Just enjoying watching the kid's development. Enjoying while I can. One of best and worst things about college basketball is how quickly a kid's college career goes by. We get to see them develop, leave and repeat with some new kids.

Eric is in the perfect Program to develop and grow his unique skillset. Banging with Koroma/Euros and Reed in practice and learning from Reed about low post efficiency/D/Boards is invaluable. His passing/BBIQ/3 pt efficiency come naturally to him. He's a gamer/winner and will be a mismatch nightmare by his second year with his inside/out proficiency.

I think Danny is blown away by his maturity and talent and is still trying to figure out how to maximize his impact on this year's team. Florida game will be a great test for him in the minutes he gets.

Some had legit concerns about his size and being too skinny this season. As you can see he bulked up and got stronger in the short time he’s been with us. Strength, nutrition and conditioning is solid.

I thought he looked badly over matched in the first game where he played many minutes. He has come along much better than i thought he would. In another year with some weight training and maturity he can be An absolute beast. I think more Kalkbrenner than Clingon but still a beast.
Both are NBA starters!

Yes!!! I was just thinking this while reading your post.
There has been a narrative- created by teams like St John's, Florida, Kansas, Duke and some other teams since NIL that paying upper classmen to just slot into a system is the way to go and that HS recruiting is gonna take a backseat.
Our freshmen are having a huge impact. And they did during our past 2 rings. We're still doing it quasi old school and I think that is the recipe

Eric is so talented and so smart. Just seeing the growth in his aggressiveness over the last two games has been impressive

His stroke is real. His defense is already improving and he’s finding his groove in the offense. By season end he will be pushing to be a top 10 team quality starter

After the first few games I thought that Reibe had good hands but weak hands. Over the course of the season, he is getting tougher and has made a real effort to hang onto the ball on rebounds. When a kid adjusts that fast and that well, it speaks to his work ethic and the ability to be coached. If he keeps improving at this rate he will be a monster in March.

Gotta kick out of Reibe directing traffic at the top of the key with the ball in his hands so that he could create passing lanes for the cutters. Small sample size of things to come.

Reibe has been great so this is not a knock on him, but I have no idea what people have been watching wanting to see him play the 4. The defense is already playing 10 feet off him at the 5 and packing the paint, putting him at the 4 would be a disaster offensively with even less room to operate on offense
Just give him a green light to shoot. He's actually been making them.

Slowly falling in love with this kids play. You can see how well he's taken to high level coaching already. Hurley hugging him when he came off, then Reibe making a hysterical gesture over it was awesome. Him pointing Solo to the cut was incredible for a frosh 5. A really trustworthy and reliable kid out there. Feels like the kind of kid that could assume some AK like leadership out there if he sticks around. What Tarris brings in brawn and power, this kid brings in elegance and smarts.

I’m curious how much is confidence vs game plan. He definitely ended up with the ball in some late shot clock scenarios where he was unguarded. The one of those he took confidently, he made. If he can take and make some more of those, those opposing centers are going to have to start creeping further and further away from the basket.

Reibe's improvement has been a joy to watch. [As well as the whole team's improvements]

Here's how we did with him on/off the court for the first 6 games of the season (data from HoopExplorer...simple note for reading these data---the darker green, the better that stat relative to D1 averages. The darker red, the worse that stat is relative to D1 average. The ranks for some are listed below the data points. ):

And here's us the last 6 games (note that the last 6 games are also much tougher overall competition):

The defensive improvement is actually astounding. From 115.5 Adj Pts allowed/100 possessions down to 87.6 Adj Pts/100. Rim protection is actually astounding. #1 ranked defense for 2Pt% and Rim% with him on the court. Offensive performance has also improved from 119.8 to 127.8 Adj Pts/100.

The defensive improvement has been blatantly apparent. I’m kind of astounded at how quickly he has improved in that area because that can often be a bigger adjustment for freshmen bigs. His rate of improvement has been incredible.

In the ESPN Top 100 NBA Draft Prospects Reibe is ranked 37. Others - Mullins 10, Karaban 35, Ball 53, and Reed 70.
Tarris has the physical ability, it's the other stuff that seems to prevent him from being perceived as a higher level prospect.

Hardest part of highly ranked big men coming out of HS is how quickly can they learn and apply it on the court. In HS, they spend almost every second excelling by being bigger.

In college they find players, just as big, who are older, more physically mature and faster. There's an adjustment for almost every HS big coming to college.

Reibe has done a great job learning and improving.

Kinda weird to say a McD's AA center who is averaging 8.8 points and 4.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocked shots is exceeding expectations, but the eye test shows him in a better light than just his numbers.

His age and style of play is what prevents him from being perceived as a higher level prospect. Born in the wrong decade.

His lack of a 3 pt shot you mean. He is a poor man's Adama Sanogo
6'10 big/bulky back to the basket guys aren't in fashion in the NBA and haven't been for a while. Despite that I do think he'll stick in the league and I think he's a little better than Adama.
